  • Patent number: 7731661
Abstract: An imaging system comprises a device to excite mechanical waves in elastic tissue, a device for measuring the resulting tissue motion at a plurality of locations interior to the tissue at a number of time instances, a computing device to calculate the mechanical properties of tissue from the measurements, and a display to show the properties according to their location. A parameter identification method for calculating the mechanical properties is based on fitting a lumped dynamic parametric model of the tissue dynamics to their measurements. Alternatively, the mechanical properties are calculated from transfer functions computed from measurements at adjacent locations in the tissue. The excitation can be produced by mechanical vibrators, medical needles or structures supporting the patient. The measurements may be performed by a conventional ultrasound imaging system and the resulting properties displayed as semi-transparent overlays on the ultrasound images.

  • Patent number: 7723612
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for inhibiting theft of electrical wiring through the access opening of an electrical fixture supporting pole, such as a street light pole. Prior to securing the pole to the base, a wire clamping element is placed on the base around the passage for the power supply cable. The electrical power supply cable is clamped to a vertical surface of the clamping element, and the free end of the cable is extended to a location proximate the second opposed vertical surface of the clamping element. The electrical connection cable from the electrical fixture is then attached to the power supply cable, and the pole and the clamping element are secured to the base such that the access opening is positioned to provide access to the connections of the power supply cable and electrical connection cable from the electrical fixture, but access to the clamping device which secures the power supply cable to the first surface is not possible without removing the pole.

  • Patent number: 7714064
Abstract: Water-soluble films are prepared from polymer blends of polyvinyl alcohol and sulfonate polymers. The sulfo group can be acid form, SO3H, as well as salt form of potassium, sodium, ammonium, i.e. —SO3K, —SO3Na, and —SO3NH4. Conventional film-forming processes can be used to produce the films. Polymeric films prepared from the blend compositions have unique characteristics. Their water solubility rate can be controlled by varying the composition ratio of the polymer blend. Their water solubility rate is increased even at a temperature of 0° C. The water-soluble polymeric films can be used as packaging materials and immersion transfer printing film.

  • Patent number: 7713018
Abstract: A bottom board separator can remove the bottom board from a stack of lumber moving at process speed. The bottom board separator carries stacks of lumber on a first set of stack conveyors that are spaced apart along a path. Abutment surfaces push the bottom board transversely out from under the stack. A second set of stack conveyors follow the abutment surface and support the remaining part of the stack. Movable guides keep the remaining part of the stack traveling in the process direction.

  • Patent number: 7695620
Abstract: This application relates to an apparatus and method for treating effluent. The effluent may be derived, for example, from an upstream secondary treatment plant. The apparatus employs a plenum positionable within a fluid-impervious container. The plenum includes a fluid filter portion containing a hydrophilic material, such as peat, capable of transporting effluent by capillary action and a fluid collection portion for receiving effluent from the upstream effluent source. The apparatus also includes a fluid wicking conduit containing hydrophilic material for wicking effluent from the fluid collection portion. The fluid wicking conduit may be configured so that any appreciable amount of effluent introduced into the apparatus will be wicked even if the amount is substantially less than the fluid holding capacity of the fluid collection portion of the plenum. This enables the apparatus to operate substantially continuously and passively so long as some effluent is resident in the plenum.
