    Abstract: A printing apparatus for applying a coding on a surface which is transported past the printing apparatus, comprising a text roll for the coding characters, supported by a frame and rotatably mounted on a shaft. Said text roll is drivable by the passing surface. The printing apparatus further comprises a rotatable inking means for inking the coding characters. The text roll is movable backwards and forwards in radial direction, wherein a driving means is provided for rotating the text roll and moving the text roll in radial direction from a rest position, in which the text roll is completely free of the surface to be coded, to a working position, in which the text roll engages the surface to be coded, when a surface to be coded comes up to the text roll. The driving means is adapted to return the text roll in radial direction and to rotate the text roll to the rest position from an end position reached by the coding operation after applying the coding.

    Abstract: A process and a means is described for burning solid fuels, preferably coal, in pulverized form, which are mixed with a carrier liquid, such as water and/or oil or the like, to thereby form an emulsion, and for this purpose the fuel emulsion is injected through a substantially annular entrance port into a combustion chamber so that an approximately hollow cone-shaped flow configuration is produced. Within this flow configuration, a low pressure is built up immediately behind the entrance port for the fuel emulsion opening into the combustion chamber, so that a portion of hot combustion gases and a remainder of unburnt fuel particles are recirculated to the entrance port. Furthermore, gas entrance ports are provided in the end wall of the combustion chamber, through which the gas or air flows the path of flow of which extends concentrically and spirally towards the axis of the entrance port for the fuel emulsion opening into the combustion chamber.

    Abstract: A two-stage distillation method for separating a mixed liquid such as a dimethylformamide-containing aqueous liquid or a methanol-containing aqueous liquid, into light and heavy fractions. The mixed liquid is first subjected to a distillation treatment in a first distillation zone of a vapor recompression type. When the boiling point of the mixed liquid is close to that of the desired light fraction, the top product from the first distillation zone is recovered as the light fraction, while the bottom product is subjected to a further distillation treatment to obtain the heavy fraction as its bottom product. When the boiling point of the mixed liquid is close to that of the heavy fraction, the bottom product from the first distillation zone is recovered as the heavy fraction, while the top product from the first distillation zone is subjected to a further distillation treatment to obtain the light fraction as its top product.

    Abstract: An electrohydraulic drive for process line equipment, especially a spooler that winds and pays out an indefinite length of metallic strand, varies the output torque of a hydraulic motor by controlling its displacement and the pressure differential between its inlet and outlet. A valve controlled by a proportional actuator reduces the supply pressure of the hydraulic fluid in a feed line for the motor. A sequence valve located in a return line from the motor maintains the pressure at the motor outlet at a preselected and adjustable value. During braking, fluid from the return line is directed to a regeneration circuit that includes a flow divider returning one portion of the flow to the feed line and another portion to a supply reservoir. A servo-amplifier circuit includes an integrating amplifier that compares the actual rotation speed of the motor to a speed command signal. An analog multiplier produces a control signal for the proportional actuator.

    Abstract: A papermaker's felt is formed by needling a compressible batt layer onto one or both sides of a base layer woven fabric. The batt layer is formed from a mixture of at least two types of fibers. A first type is present in much smaller quantities than the remainder and has a melting point at a temperature below the melting point of the remainder. The felt is heated to a temperature between the melting point of the first type of fibers and the remainder, so as to melt the first type such that it bonds the remainder together and to the base fabric. The felt is then formed into an endless belt.

    Abstract: In appliances for practicing aquatic sports with water flowing upwardly over a sloping bottom surface a premature breakdown of the flow caused by the accumulation of portions of water slowed down by friction at the boundary faces is prevented by at least partially removing said portions of slowed down water. This can be done by sucking off at least the increasingly portions of slowed down water which are preferably refed to a return pipe of the appliance. A further possibility provides that portions of slowed down water are accelerated by supplying water at an increased flow rate. Suction of the portions of slowed down water as well as the supply of water at an increased flow rate is particularly effected through apertures in the bottom surface in the regions in which the portions of water are particularly slowed down, i.e. above all in the regions in the vicinity of an overflow at the upper end of the sloping bottom surface.

    Abstract: An electrochemical cell of the type characterized by an essentially constant operating voltage essentially independent of the degree of cell discharge is disclosed, which in its output voltage exhibits one or more step changes of predetermined and fully adjustable magnitudes at any predetermined point or points during the life of the cell. This enables timely replacement of the cell under non-critical circumstances, and also can be used to indicate state of discharge of the cell. In essence, the anode of the cell comprises a plurality of anode elements which become depleted at mutually different degrees of cell discharge. As each anode element becomes depleted, the internal resistance of the cell increases to cause a drop in the operating voltage of the cell as the remaining active anode elements are required to supply the required current.

    Abstract: A material with high thermal conductivity for insulating electronic parts is formed by exposure to a compressive shearing force of a compound containing 50 to 95% by volume heat conductive, inorganic powder and 5 to 50% by volume bonding agent. The bonding agent contains at least 0.2 to 30% by volume polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), preferably 1.0 to 20%, and synthetic rubber, where the volume ratio of rubber is 1/4 or more of the PTFE. The compressive shearing force fibrillates the PTFE and disperses the inorganic powder so that there is an even aggregation of heat conductive material. Other ingredients such as vulcanizing agents, vulcanizing accelerators, stabilizers, processing aids, flame retardents, coloring agents, and solvents may be added. The material may be reinforced with a woven or non-woven fabric or staple fibers.

    Abstract: The invention concerns an ion-selective electrode comprising a polymer membrane, and its manufacturing procedure.     Abstract: A process for sintering or reaction sintering ceramic or refractory materials with hot plasma gases. The hot plasma gases are produced by injecting a combined primary plasma arc with a secondary gas stream directly into a reaction furnace. The secondary gas stream is tangentially injected into the primary plasma arc gas stream to mix the gases for the required sintering temperature at the highest energy efficiency. The plasma torches are positioned in the furnace ports so that the plasma gas flow is perpendicular to the furnace process gas flow. This process is inexpensive and efficient and results in a superior quality sintered product. It may be adapted to continuous or periodic kilns to achieve a high furnace productivity.
