Abstract: A location-based and preference-based system and method for matching the profiles of the attributes and/or characteristics of persons, places and/or things with the expressed preferences of mobile users such as travelers, to alert and direct such users to any places having attributes matching the user's express preferences. In particular, the system comprises a mobile device such as a GPS-capable PDA that stores the user's preferences and communicates with a server that contains or accesses the profiles of the persons, places or things to compare the profiles and preferences. Comparison of the user's preferences with the various profiles allows the user only to be informed of those persons, places and/or things that it is likely to be interested in. The system and method thus provides for a mobile real-time point of interest exchange network.

Abstract: A gunsight reticle defines a system of dimensioned indicia spaced at specific separations to improve aiming accuracy of a gun. The indicia may include perpendicularly intersecting center vertical and center horizontal hairlines, and four (or more or less) horizontal range-marker lines disposed at specific angular separations below the horizontal hairline in bisected relationship with the center vertical hairline. Spacing of the range marker lines below the center horizontal hairline is proportional to bullet drop at selected ranges, depending upon ballistic characteristics of bullet used. Relative lengths of said range-marker bars on each side of the central vertical crosshair are proportional to a specific crosswind (say 10 mph) at target range reflected by respective range marker. The method involves employing this reticle to determine distance to target, and using distance thus determined to ascertain a precise aiming point on the reticle.

Abstract: An apparatus for maintaining airway passages open that includes a base and a horizontal bar member slidably connected to a U-shaped member attached to the base. A pair of posts having padded heads or end members for contacting the mandibular angle of a jaw of a person are rotationally attached to a bolt that extends from the base adjacent the end of the U-shaped member and a bolt that extends from the base proximate the end of the horizontal bar member. Rotation of the posts about the bolts allows for the adjustment of the height of the posts. The posts and bolts may also be pivoted to position the padded end members to correctly contact the jaw of the person. Sliding the horizontal bar member in relation to the U-shaped member allows for the distance between posts to be adjusted to accommodate the different sized heads of different people.

Abstract: A clamshell package for displaying and housing products or other objects that is substantially pilfer-resistant, yet safe to open. The clamshell packaging includes a substantially tear-resistant housing that encloses a display chamber by criss-cross grain material to provide cut or tear resistance in multiple directions. The display chamber of the clamshell package may be either substantially transparent to allow for the product to be displayed or substantially opaque display graphics and/or to prevent the contents from being viewed. The chamber is preferably seamless such that it may not be opened without the use of scissors and, when opened, such opening is readily apparent. Furthermore, when cut open, the material used does not form sharp or jagged edges that may pose a danger to anyone handling the package. In addition to clamshell packages, the tear resistant material may also be used in blister packs and other types of packaging.

Abstract: A single-use biopsy instrument for mounting at a multiple-use biopsy apparatus, comprises a cartridge enclosing proximal end portions of a canula, a finger tube slidingly disposed on the canula, and a stylet slidingly disposed in the canula. The canula and the finger tube have proximal holding portions and are displaceable in regard of the cartridge by displacement means disposed in the biopsy apparatus engaging with the holding portions through one or several engagement openings in one wall of the cartridge. Also disclosed is a corresponding biopsy apparatus.

Abstract: A safety system for preventing a handheld firearm from discharging an inadvertently loaded live ammunition projectile or bullet during a training exercise or the like by safely venting through a series of substantially perpendicular vent holes in the barrel, the pressure needed to propel the bullet down and through the barrel towards the target—so as to retain the bullet in the bore and cause the firearm to shut down.

Abstract: A tether that addresses the above and other deficiencies in the art, that is efficient to manufacture, and attractive in use. More specifically, the invention is directed to a tether including a ring, a first strap connected to the ring at a first point, a second strap coupled to one of the first strap and ring, and a releasable connector. The releasable connector is operable to releasably couple the first strap to the ring at a second point such that the first strap forms a variable sized opening for receiving an object or container. The invention is also directed to a tethered container assembly including the aforementioned tether and a container.

Abstract: An online interactive system comprising a business referral and income generation system linked to one or more listed web sites of businesses in a particular locality or geographical area. Revenue is generated by way of such methods as: Merchants listing their web sites in one or more web site directories for multiple communities; banner ads; local and national coupons issued by merchants; classified job listings; classified realty listings; “4 Sale” ads; and fees for supplemental services called “Extended Services” serving to provide interactive capabilities to static web sites. The system enables quicker and substantially automated and on-line self-posting, design, selection, updating and payment for listings, ads and coupons, among other things.

Abstract: A slot machine game that simulates a bank robbery is provided having a vault mechanical assembly that includes a plurality of doors and gates that may be sequentially opened by attaining winning outcomes at successive levels of the game. Upon completion of each level of the game, the game allows the player to either risk the player's winning and proceed to the next level or “cash out”, thereby adding excitement to the game. In order to provide visual stimulation, the vault doors and gates are moveable between a closed and an open position during operation of the game. Simulated sounds such as explosions may also be used to enhance the enjoyment of the game and to attract attention to the game.

Abstract: A transducer suitable for generating signals in the terahertz region has a resonant cavity (4) with apertures (6) aligned with cold cathode source (2) being a field emitter array. The resonant cavity (4) consists of an inner cylindrical region (8) and an outer toroid region (9) that includes a slot antenna (11). To achieve signal generation in the terahertz region, the cavity (4) is fabricated using an etched polymeric material.

Abstract: A display device having one or more liquid-filled chambers through which an object may be viewed as if it were submerged in liquid. The display device includes a frame member having four sides, at least two of the sides each having a viewing aperture. At least two substantially transparent liquid-filled chambers can also be provided in a side-by-side or back-to-back alignment, and are positioned within the frame member in substantial corresponding relationship with one of the viewing apertures.

Abstract: An apparatus for adjustably attaching a cover to an open-topped vehicle enclosure including a cover attachment member, a plurality of cover attachment clip members and a plurality of rail members attached to the top of a side wall of the enclosure by any suitable means. A cover attachment member affixed to a peripheral element of a cover is engageable with the cover attachment clip members, which are engageable with the rail members. The cover attachment member may be attached to the rail member in various different positions to accommodate variations in the cover dimensions.

Abstract: A drill bit for use in association with a power or hand drill comprising a drill bit head and shaft. The drill bit head includes a drill bit cutting head and a guide point. The drill bit cutting head includes a first and a second cutting vane. Each cutting vane includes a first cutting edge which extends perpendicular to the axis of rotation and is provided for removing workpiece material, a second cutting edge which extends parallel to the axis of rotation and is provided for forming a substantially smooth workpiece bore, and a channel for facilitating the expulsion of removed workpiece material away from the first cutting surface as the drill bit passes through the workpiece.

Abstract: A hydrodynamic torque converter has a converter housing drivable in rotation by an engine, with an impeller. A turbine non-rotatably connected to an output shaft is hydrodynamically coupled to the impeller by way of a stator through an oil circuit. The turbine is axially slidably supported on the shaft. A friction surface on the turbine upon axial displacement of the turbine comes into frictional contact with a counterpart friction surface on the converter housing, thereby producing a lockup clutch effect. The turbine is also connected by way of springs to a coupling element arranged non-rotatably on the shaft. In an alternative configuration the turbine is arranged non-rotatably on the shaft and the lockup clutch action is by way of friction surfaces on a coupling element and on the converter housing. A torsion damper can be provided between the coupling element and the turbine.

Abstract: A boiler for generating steam and/or hot water is provided having a tank containing water, an outlet located proximal to the top of the tank, and a return inlet located proximal to the bottom of the tank. A substantially horizontal combustion conduit in heat transfer relationship with the water extends through the tank proximal to the outlet. A heat source in communication with the combustion conduit heats and drives the heated gas into the combustion conduit. A set of fire conduits in heat transfer relationship with the water and in communication with the combustion conduit, extend though said tank below the combustion conduit. When heated gas is driven into the combustion conduit, the heated gas flows through the combustion conduit, and then flows downwardly and then in a substantially transverse through the fire conduits, and heat is transferred to the water as the heated gas flows through the combustion conduit and fire conduits.

Abstract: The invention relates to a shed forming device without a harness for the textile industry, preferably a weaving device which contains a number of healds (4) with thread eyelets (5) for guiding the warp threads. The healds (4) are guided through boreholes (31, 31′) of guide elements (20, 6). Said healds (4) are positioned in such a way, that at least one of the guide elements (6) is configured as a lifting element of a lift generating device, in order to perform a vertical ascending and descending movement. An optional connection between the guide element (6) and the heald (4) can be made and electrically controlled by catch devices in the horeholes (31, 31′), in such a way, that the heald can be caught by the lifting movement. A shed of warp threads can thus be formed which conforms to a pattern.
