  • Patent number: 4870965
Abstract: An umbilical cord cutting and clamping device simultaneously severs an umbilical cord to form a maternal cord end and fetal cord end and releasably clamps the maternal cord end. A separate fetal cord end clip mounted in the device simultaneously secures the fetal cord end. The fetal cord end clamp is ejected automatically from the device after the fetal cord end has been clipped. The device provides a more uniform application of clamping force to the umbilical cord than scissors-like devices thereby reducing undesirable hemorrhaging from the clamped cord ends. The device can be used to clamp securely umbilical cords having a large variation in diameter.

  • Patent number: 4863326
Abstract: A captive fastener for securing two closure members together comprises a crew component adapted to be affixed to one of the closure members and a complimentary nut component adapted to be affixed to the other closure member. The screw component comprises a housing, a drive sleeve disposed within the housing for rotational movement therein, and a screw member in operatinal engagement with the drive sleeve whereby the screw member is axially movable between extended and retracted positions relative to the housing in response to the rotational movement of the drive sleeve. The nut component comprises a shell, a nut member disposed within the shell for limited axial and radial movement therein and fixed against rotation, and biasing means for urging against the axial movement of the nut member. The radial and axial movement of the nut member facilitates the alignment and engagement of the screw member with the nut member to eliminate binding when the closure members are assembled.

  • Patent number: 4800330
Abstract: A device for regulating delivery of power from an AC voltage source to a load such as a lamp, a motor, a heating element or the like is described. Electronic circuitry responsive to the AC voltage generates a periodic signal whose magnitude indicates the instantaneous phase angle of the AC voltage relative to the most recent zero crossover of the AC voltage throughout the entirety of each half cycle of operation. A comparator generates a triggering signal when the phase angle signal corresponds to a threshold signal which may be manually set by adjustment of a voltage divider or which may be generated by a sensor in response to a predetermined condition, such as ambient light level or temperature, which is to be regulated by appropriate delivery of power to the load. The triggering signal is applied to a triac series connected with the load to initiate conduction of load current.

  • Patent number: 4721242
Abstract: Described is a pack for liquids which at least partially comprises walls of plastics-coated paper, in particular side walls of a tubular configuration having a longitudinal sealing seam and a bottom having a transverse sealing seam, wherein the longitudinal sealing seam extends within overlapping edge portions (4, 5) and the cut edge (11) of the edge (5) which is in the interior of the pack is covered by a plastics strip (7) as edge protection. In order, in spite of overlapping edge portions, (4, 5), to ensure that the pack is satisfactorily liquid-tight, with the capacity to carry tensile forces, with at the same time the edge protection effect, it is provided in accordance with the invention for the pack that the plastics strip (7) as the edge protection means is laid over in a U-shaped configuration in cross-section around the cut edge (11) of the inner edge portion (5) and is sealed (at 30) onto both surfaces of the edge portion (5).

  • Patent number: 4599847
Abstract: In wrapping machinery for wrapping articles in heat sealable plastic film, a web of film is drawn from a supply roll and is severed by pulling the film under tension downwardly onto the narrow edge of a thermal cut-off device, which may be a heated rod or blade, to melt the film material along a thin transverse line and to permit severance thereof by pulling. Following severance of the film, the film-wrapped package is sealed by placing the package on a pedestal hot plate. The temperature of the hot plate is higher than that of the thermal cut-off device used to sever the film. The hot plate is supplied by electrical energy from a single source through a temperature sensor and control. The thermal cut-off device obtains its heat by conduction from the hot plate.

  • Patent number: 4453883
Abstract: An industrial robot having several axes of movement and comprising a base mounted for linear or pivotal movement, a pair of angularly movable parallelogram leverages and a toolholder head movable by the leverages and supporting a tool such as a welding torch. The toolholder head has two degrees of freedom of pivotal movement. The tool supported thereby is centered in a fixed point of focus irrespective of the position of the toolholder head and the tool can be adjusted without changing this point of focus merely by adjusting the toolholder head without adjusting other axes of movement of the robot.

  • Patent number: 4350617
Abstract: A metal honeycomb catalyst support is formed by stacking flat strips of metal into a cylindrical shell. The shell is divided by a partition along the axis of the shell. The strips are stacked parallel to the partition. The partition insures that the strips lie flat and are tightly compacted. Indentations in the strips maintain the spacing between the strips. The present invention provides an economical method for making small numbers of honeycombs, which method does not require the use of expensive machinery.

  • Patent number: 4301039
Abstract: The catalyst support is a spiral formed by winding a single strip of metal upon itself. Indentations in the strip maintain a uniform spacing between the layers in the spiral. The indentations are displayed along the strip in at least two different patterns. Different patterns are wound onto successive layers in the spiral so that the indentations in successive layers cannot coincide and nest together.

  • Patent number: 4254707
Abstract: A screen printing apparatus is provided, having a table on which the blank to be printed may be placed, and with the screen being brought into overlying relation to the blank for engagement of the screen by a squeegee for forcing through the screen, ink that has been applied to the screen, onto the work, with the squeegee generally downwardly pressing the screen a predetermined amount, to engagement with the work, as the squeegee traverses the screen from one end to the other. The screen is pivotally mounted at one end, and the other end is upwardly liftable to peel-off the screen from the work, as the squeegee traverses, so that those portions of the screen through which ink has already been applied to the work may be physically removed from the work to prevent smearing of ink on the work, as well as to prevent distortion. The upward movement of the screen away from the work is synchronized with the traversal of the squeegee across the screen.

  • Patent number: 4233590
Abstract: A supplemental energy register in which successive increments of consumed electrical energy are detected at a kilowatthour meter, and are translated into electrical pulse signals. Digital calculation and display logic is operated by the pulses, either directly or through intermediate transmission over the household network. Kilowatthours are directly accumulated in increments corresponding to those sensed at the meter, while net cost is computed by chain addition utilizing the prevailing cost per increment rate, which is maintained in a keyboard controllable memory. The register may desirably be inserted in the leads connecting an electric utilization device to the local common network.
