  • Patent number: 6390798
Abstract: In order to eject resin leaked from an injection chamber (13) toward the shaft side of an injection plunger (31) away from an injection cylinder (30), a plunger-type injection molding machine injection device is equipped with an ejection guide (151, 251) at the rear edge of an injection cylinder which is thermally isolated from the injection cylinder main body. A band heater (53), which heats the ejection guide, is controlled independently of the band heater (38) which heats the injection cylinder. One embodiment of this injection guide (151) causes the ejected resin to fall from the ejection opening (151h) while retaining its molten state. In another embodiment, the ejection guide (251) has ejection channels (251f) which cause the resin to harden and be ejected in a fine strand state.

  • Patent number: 6390803
Abstract: A dynamic molten mass guide sleeve disposed to articulate to compensate for differences in expansion between an inner hot flow hot channel injection and mold cavity with air gap insulation therebetween. Prior fixed molten mass guide sleeves required extremely stringent location deviations and often led to mold cavity ruptures or leakage as a result of differential expansion between the nozzle body having the hot flow channel and the mold cavity channel. The inventive sleeve is fitted with peripheral sealing lips at each end and is mounted between the body having the hot flow channel and the mold cavity (6). The sleeve compensates for differential heat expansion while enabling well-defined temperature separation in the mold feed orifice area of the injection mold by sealing the air gap (4).

  • Patent number: 6284167
Abstract: When a process measurement metering operation is performed during a molding cycle, a plunger is forcibly caused to retract to a position behind measurement metering completed position, while at the same time a periodic forced purge operation is implemented in which the plunger is immediately restored to the vicinity of the position at which the forced retraction operation commenced. By this operation, leaked resin is removed to the rear, i.e., beyond the plunger metering stroke range, and any increase in resistance to movement of the plunger due to disposition of leaked resin is avoided. The forced purge operation is preferably performed either immediately prior to the normal metering operation, or after a specified time has elapsed following completion of a metering operation.

  • Patent number: 5439578
Abstract: A multiple capillary analyzer allows detection of light from multiple capillaries with a reduced number of interfaces through which light must pass in detecting light emitted from a sample being analyzed, using a modified sheath flow cuvette. A linear or rectangular array of capillaries is introduced into a rectangular flow chamber. Sheath fluid draws individual sample streams through the cuvette. The capillaries are closely and evenly spaced and held by a transparent retainer in a fixed position in relation to an optical detection system. Collimated sample excitation radiation is applied simultaneously across the ends of the capillaries in the retainer. Light emitted from the excited sample is detected by the optical detection system. The retainer is provided by a transparent chamber having inward slanting end walls. The capillaries are wedged into the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4488097
Abstract: Disclosed is a rotation control circuit for positioning a rotating member driven by a motor comprising a power supply and a motor relay which is energized by the power supply. A circuit is provided for intermittently energizing the relay. The circuit may comprise a first switch means connected to the power supply and a second switch means connecting the first switch means to the motor relay. The second switch means is normally closed and a timer is connected to the first switch means which is operable in response to a closing of the first switch means to generate a relay energizing signal after a predetermined time delay. This signal is operable, through an associated relay, to open the second switch means and thereby deenergize the motor relay after the predetermined time delay. The control circuit is also operable to energize the motor relay in the continuous mode. Finally, safety interlocks are provided in the control circuit to minimize any hazards to operating personnel.

  • Patent number: RE37537
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for thermally altering the near surface characteristics of a material are described. In particular, a repetitively pulsed ion beam system comprising a high energy pulsed power source and an ion beam generator are described which are capable of producing single species high voltage ion beams (0.25-2.5 MeV) at 1-1000 kW average power and over extended operating cycles (108). Irradiating materials with such high energy, repetitively pulsed ion beams can yield surface treatments including localized high temperature anneals to melting, both followed by rapid thermal quenching to ambient temperatures to achieve both novel and heretofore commercially unachievable physical characteristics in a near surface layer of material.
