Abstract: A method for encapsulating a water soluble reactive agent in an alkyl cellulosic polymer to provide an encapsulated product from which leaching of the reactive agent into an aqueous dentifrice containing another compound reactive with the agent is prevented or controlled, said method comprising the steps of
(a) uniformly dispersing the reactive agent in the alkyl cellulose and a solvent for the polymer to form a paste;
(b) casting the paste onto a sheet forming substrate;
(c) grinding and subdividing the sheet having the reactive agent encased therein into particles of a predetermined size;
(d) washing the particles with water to remove any encased agent exposed by the grinding; and,
(e) drying the particles of encapsulated reactive agent.
Abstract: An effervescent two component whitening dentifrice composition is disclosed which comprises a first component containing a peroxide compound such as hydrogen peroxide and a second dentifrice component containing a mixture of iron and copper salts such as FeSO4 and CaSO4, which when the two components are combined and mixed upon application to the teeth provides an effervescent sensory signal concomitant with whitening of the teeth.

Abstract: A method for forming a striped dentifrice wherein a first dentifrice which appears unstriped when stored in a container having sidewalls at least a portion of which is transparent, is transformed into a striped dentifrice upon extrusion from the container, which method comprises storing the first dentifrice in the container provided with discharge means and striping means within the discharge means, sequentially filling the container with a striping dentifrice having a color which distinguishes the striping dentifrice from the first dentifrice, the striping dentifrice being stored in an area of the container separate from the first dentifrice, followed by filling the container with the first dentifrice, applying pressure on the dentifrices to cause the striping dentifrice to be applied to the first dentifrice within the container area in which the second dentifrice is stored and be simultaneously extruded together from the container, so that upon extrusion, the extruded dentifrice appears to have been magical

Abstract: An aqueous dentifrice composition comprising an aqueous vehicle containing at least two active ingredients reactive with each other, at least one of the active ingredients being encapsulated in a substantially water immiscible, pressure rupturable shell which is rupturable during use of the dentifrice, causing the same to be released for interaction with the other active ingredient, the shell being formed from a plasticized alkyl cellulose polymer. The dentifrice exhibits increased efficacy for fluoridation of teeth when the active ingredients are soluble fluoride salt and a calcium salt encapsulated in the plasticized alkyl cellulose polymer.
