Abstract: An apparatus and method of forming air turning assemblies is disclosed along with a novel vane supporting rail structure for use therewith. The apparatus holds a pair of rails in spaced parallel relation at a clinching station at which the edges of a vane may be engaged in opposed slotted protuberances in the rails. The spacing of the rails may be increased at the station against a yieldable biasing force, the station including a deforming mechanism for deflecting the vane edges to lock the vanes to the rails. The rails include cam surfaces leading to the vane receiving slots and blocking walls at the trailing ends of the slots to facilitate introducing the vane edges into the slots.

Abstract: A compensating positive drive rotary shaft seal assembly comprises a two-part housing, each housing part including a radially directed stator surface surrounding the shaft. A collar is keyed to the shaft between the stators, and an axially shiftable rotor is interposed between the collar and each stator. The rotors are positively coupled to the collar for rotation with the shaft. An elastomeric annular seal is mounted on the shaft between each rotor and the collar. The housing parts are axially shiftable toward and away from each other adjustably to compress the elastomeric seals and yieldably bias the rotors against the stators. An internal annular gasket spanning the housing parts encompasses the seal assembly and defines a sealed chamber coupled to one or more purge ducts.
Abstract: An article of manufacture comprises an elongate strip or reel of separable metallic segments having pressure sensitive backing tape secured thereto. The segments include a cutout defining an elongate tine bendable to right angles to the main body portion of the segment. The tines include a longitudinally directed reenforcing rib, the side edges of the tine and the rib being formed with aligned notches enabling the fine to be bent at right angles in registry with the notches. A washer is provided which may be sleeved over the tine, the washer including an aperture configured such that when the washer is mounted over the tine and rotated, the washer will be locked to the tine.
Abstract: An integral polymeric clamp device is disclosed. The clamp device is comprised of a base portion to which is hingedly connected a two arm clamping assembly actuable from an open position to a closed position wherein a component of a second arm of the assembly clampingly engages a stop surface formed on the base of the assembly. The arms are locked in clamping position when a hinged connection between the arms shifts from a first to a second side of a line extending between the stop surface and the hinged connection of the first arm to the body portion Movement of the clamp member into engagement with the fixed stop portion on the body of the clamp is assured by a locator link hingedly interposed between the body portion and the arm carrying the moving component of the clamp assembly.
Abstract: A device and method for obtaining a direct reading of the cell volume of the cells of an anilox roller is disclosed. The device includes a transparent strip to be applied against the surface of an anilox roll to be measured, the undersurface of the strip including a seal area surrounding an elongate channel. Fluid is introduced into the channel and is spread along the surface of the roll by forcing the portions of the strip defining the upper surface of the channel against the roll surface to fill the cells in registry with the channel. A reading is obtained in accordance with the length of the channel which is filled by the fluid. Index markings may be provided on the strip to permit a direct readout of cell volume.
Abstract: A portable apparatus for forming an air turning assembly comprises upper and lower rail retaining tracks which are yieldably biased toward each other. Vane distorting chisels are mounted in spaced relation below the lower track and a staking assembly, movable longitudinally so as to sequentially register with the chisels, is mounted above the upper track. The staking assembly is shiftable toward the fixed chisels beneath the lower track whereby edges of a vane temporarily mounted between the rails may be staked in a single operation to both rails, downward movement of the staking chisels being effected to deform portions of the vane above the upper rail, such downward movement also functioning bodily to shift the rails and vane downwardly, such the portions of the vane below the lower rail are deformed by the chisels below the lower rail.

Abstract: A device for blocking high frequency noise components present in the ground circuits of digital devices from transmission to the amplification devices of an audio system comprises a conductive enclosure having input leads for connection to the positive and ground circuits of a digital device and an external output receptacle. An inductor within the enclosure is in series connection between the input ground lead and an output wire and filters the high frequency noise. An androgenous jack coupled to the ground lead couples the positive circuit and the filtered ground circuit to the amplifier.
Abstract: A key duplicating device includes a movable carriage having a key tracer and a key cutter in mutually spaced relation, the carriage having a drive assembly for shifting the carriage relative to a pair of turrets for holding a key to be duplicated at a tracing station and a key blank to be cut at a cutting station. The device is characterized by each of the turrets including a pair of vises moveably mounted relative to the frame and detented whereby one vise of each turret is aligned at a respective cutting or tracing station and the other vise is displaced from such stations whereby the other vise may be loaded with a key and key blank while the machine is cutting and tracing the blank and key located at the respective cutting and tracing stations.
Abstract: A power strip for use in high definition audio and video systems employing a device having a digital switching source is disclosed. The power strip includes a first receptacle for the digital source employing capacitors for shunting to ground high frequency products at the digital receptacle. The strip includes additional receptacles for non-digital devices, the additional receptacles being isolated from the digital receptacle by series inductances and also being isolated from ground.
Abstract: A self-extinguishing fire resistant elastic strap material is disclosed, as is a method of fabricating the same. The material is comprised of a tubular fabric of fireproof yarns having a hollow core, elastic and hence combustible yarns being disposed entirely within the core, the elastic yarns being frictionally clampingly engaged at spaced positions to the surrounding fabric, the elastic yarns being tensioned in the formed condition of the fabric to effect foreshortening of the fabric when the tension in the elastic yarns is relaxed.

Abstract: A method of permanently surgically treating glaucoma is disclosed together with an apparatus for effecting such treatment. In accordance with the method, an implant is disposed at a filtration site through the sclera the implant including a through going aperture leading from the anterior chamber to a bleb formed in the conjunctiva. The implant is retained in the sclera by radially compressing the same during the insertion procedure and thereafter releasing the radial compressive forces whereby the implant expands and is prevented from dislocation. An apparatus for effecting the implant is likewise disclosed, the apparatus including a cannula having a bore constraining the insert, a plunger for shifting the insert through an angularly offset opening in the cannula and a retainer filament engaged in the passage in the insert for controlling the precise location of the insert during the implant and for releasing the insert from connection to the cannula when the precise position is achieved.
Abstract: A readily demountable door assembly for sealing an aperture in a duct comprises a door member having an inwardly directed ramp or cam which lies within the duct and is inclined outwardly toward the duct surface. A clamp is adapted to be mounted adjacent the aperture of the duct at a position diametrically opposite the ramp. The clamp engages the door and shifts the same in the direction of the ramp, which movement presses the flange of the door tightly against the duct surface, the clamp including portions which overlie the door at positions remote from the ramp to urge such remotely disposed portions of the door against the duct surface.
Abstract: A method of processing pulp laps and a soluble strap material for holding such laps in a bale are disclosed. In accordance with the method the laps are maintained in the configuration of the bale by soluble straps comprised of PVA and are immersed in a pulping bath while still confined by the straps. The straps rupture and dissolve in the pulping bath releasing the paper laps. The straps are formed to maximize exposure of the PVA increments to the pulping bath to accelerate dissolving and may incorporate fillers of pulpable material to maintain the PVA increments in a separated condition.
