  • Patent number: 4822056
Abstract: A compensating rotary seal assembly adapted to function as a substitute for a stuffing box. The seal assembly includes end plates which may be variably oriented with respect to each other by threaded bolts extending between the plates. The bolts are adjusted to compress an annular elastomeric band defining a chamber between the end plates and also effecting a driving connection between washers and the ends of a sleeve surrounding a shaft, the ends of the washers remote from the sleeve being in a sliding contact with wear surfaces on the end plates.

  • Patent number: 4819558
Abstract: A fluid metering roll is embossed with chains of cells, the cells of each chain being interconnected by channels. Certain of the walls of the cells are aligned at critical angles relative to the axis of the roll. The channels are oriented and arranged to assure a flushing of all portions of the cells so as to eliminate ink encrustation and maximize ink spread to avoid striations and moire effects.

  • Patent number: 4820569
Abstract: A low thermal loss flexible connector stock material comprises a pair of metal strips, one edge of each of said strips being formed into clamping relation of margins of a pair of foam webs. When the strips are in overlapping relation the webs lie in face-to-face contact, the outermost web being deflected into spaced relation from the innermost web when the strips are folded into co-planar alignment, thereby defining a space between the webs.

  • Patent number: 4780149
Abstract: A method of making beta-limit dextrin containing starch products is disclosed. The method comprises first treating fully or partially gelatinized starch with beta-amylase until a DE of 5-30 is reached, thereafter completely gelatinizing the resulting product as far as necessary and treating the resulting solution with alpha-amylase for a short period of time so that, as a result of the treatment with alpha-amylase, the DE of the starch hydrolysate is increased by no more than 3 units.

  • Patent number: 4760940
Abstract: A home carbonated beverage dispenser includes a transfer valve for conducting carbonated liquid from a carbonation reservoir to an outlet spout. A characterizing feature of the device and of the valve resides in the provision of complemental arcuate guide surfaces on the relatively movable surfaces of the valve which are brought into registry in the dispensing condition of the valve, whereby fluid flow through the valve is effected with a minimum of turbulence. A restrictor orifice is formed at the port, the orifice being defined by arcuate surfaces which mate with and provide a smooth continuation with elements of the movable valve components, thereby further to minimize turbulence and assure minimal loss of carbonation.

  • Patent number: 4755407
Abstract: A fire and wear-resistant strap material particularly useful in conjunction with fire fighting apparatus is disclosed. The strap material comprises a carrier fabric, the surfaces of which have been provided with a flexible retro-reflective coating permanently bonded thereto. The carrier fabric is preferably comprised of aramid yarns which, while having low abrasion resistance, are rendered highly wear-resistant by the retro-reflective coating, which also functions to minimize heat transfer to the supporting fabric.

  • Patent number: 4726493
Abstract: An improved home dispenser of carbonated beverages is disclosed, together with a novel actuator valve mechanism. The valve mechanism may be shifted from the non-dispensing to the dispensing mode with minimum of applied force by reason of the interaction between sealing gaskets carried by the valve stem and complemental gasket enveloping skirts formed within the valve, the skirts being calculated to be radially outwardly deformed by pressure applied by the gaskets.

  • Patent number: 4664158
Abstract: An elastic conductive fabric for use as a grounding strap and the method of making the same are disclosed. The fabric is woven utilizing elastic yarn ends intermingled with conductive yarn ends. The weaving process is carried out while the elastic yarn ends are distended by at least 150% and preferably 250-400% as compared with the relaxed condition thereof. Preferably the conductive yarn is woven in a two over one pattern so that when tension is released in the elastic ends, the crests of the conductive ends which span two picks will project a substantial distance from the fabric surface. The opposite face of the fabric may be comprised of insulative ends likewise woven in a two over one pattern to provide enlarged crests at said face. Locking yarn ends maintain the conductive crests in a perpendicular condition relative to the fabric body.

  • Patent number: 4641743
Abstract: A junction for torque transmittingly connecting adjacent sections of an auger type conveyor eliminates the need for hanger bearings between conveyor sections. The junction includes a cylindrical sleeve having an external helix inclined to force conveyed material in an upstream direction in the area between the sleeve and trough and thus exert a lifting force on the junction. The sleeve includes a flow passage in registry with the helix and may include internal auger segments which mate with the conveyor sections.
