  • Patent number: 4159074
Abstract: The present invention relates to a desoldering tool or device especially intended for desoldering electrical connections of the type used for supporting components in printed circuit boards. The device includes a heating element for melting the solder connection by contact therewith and a vibrating mechanism which relatively moves the two conductive elements defining the connection during the course of cooling of the melted joint whereby, upon completion of cooling, the component is essentially free of mechanical connection to its former receptacle. The invention further relates to the method of desoldering which involves melting a soldered connection and relatively vibrating the theretofore connected components during cooling of the solder, especially by pressure exerted on one of the connectors by a vibratable heating member.

  • Patent number: 4158256
Abstract: An arrangement and a method of prosthetically repairing teeth includes preparing a tooth by marking major surfaces thereof with scribe lines, and by removing tooth structure from the tooth in dependence upon the location of the scribe lines. An elongated recess is formed in the prepared tooth. A coping adapted for placement over the prepared tooth fits in the recess and is formed with a bore which extends in direction of the elongation of the recess. An artificial crown or cap adapted for placement over the coping is formed with a cavity which extends in direction of the elongation of the recess. A two-part detachable fastener has one part mounted in the bore of the coping and its other part mounted in the cavity of the cap. The mutual alignment of the bore and the cavity permits the cap to be secured to the coping with little play when the fastener parts are moved into fitting engagement with each other. The detachable fastener may be of snap-type or of magnetic-type.

  • Patent number: 4142689
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a jam resistant shredder-feed device for advancing and comminuting elongate materials, such as copper wire scrap, plastic mold runners and the like. In accordance with the invention, an auger assembly is rotated within a cylindrical housing, the auger assembly advancing the materials to be comminuted toward a stationary knife or breaker. The device is characterized by the employment of one or more idler auger sections adjacent the stationary knife, the upstream and downstream ends of the idler section or sections themselves defining knives, as does the downstream end of the feed auger, the respective knife portions being preferably spaced apart in a longitudinal direction by distances slightly greater than the average thickness of materials to be processed.

  • Patent number: 4132035
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an insulated window assembly including a fixed frame adapted to be installed in a building structure and a movable, pane carrying operating sash mounted on the fixed frame. The invention is characterized by the provision of a novel seal structure defined between the fixed frame and outer pane member, said seal being formed laterally interiorly of the glazed connection between the pane and sash whereby leakage between the fixed and moving frames is effectively blocked, the seal also protecting the said glazed connection. Where used in conjunction with a metal framed window device, the assembly provides protection against heat loss comparable to that provided by conventional thermal break windows, without the attendant disadvantages thereof.

  • Patent number: 4077101
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved driving mandrel for insertion of spiral thread inserts into complementally tapped bores. The mandrel comprises a generally cylindrical structure having a drive tooth at one end for engagement with the tang of an insert, the device being characterized by its being formed of a resilient polymeric material having rigidifying means located at a zone adjacent the drive end, whereby the body portion of the mandrel beyond the zone is subject to limited deflection under torsional and lateral displacing forces. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, the mandrel includes a readily compressible zone in registry with the trailing end of the insert, whereby the insert may be supported against elongation and yet be free to contract as it is driven into the bore, greatly reducing the possibility of cross threading.

  • Patent number: 4065196
Abstract: The present invention is directed to improvements in the art of drawer suspensions, and particularly relates to an improved front release drawer suspension of the type employed for slidably supporting a drawer within a cabinet while permitting the drawer to be bodily removed when the same reaches an outwardmost limiting position relative to the cabinet. The drawer slide assembly includes a release member carried by the drawer, the release member being accessible from the front of the unit at the outermost limiting position of the drawer to facilitate removal of the drawer. The release assembly is characterized by means which positively deflect the forward motion limiting components into engagement as the slide components reach the outermost limiting position and preferably, in addition, permit reinsertion of the drawer without manual activation of the latching mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4031350
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved integral sheet metal welding pin particularly adapted for use with automatic welding machines of the type in which pins are stored in random fashion in a hopper. The pin incorporates a shank adapted to be attached by resistance welding to sheet metal ducting, and includes an enlarged head spaced from the duct and adapted to press insulation against the duct. The improved pin is characterized by an elongated tongue portion struck from the head of the pin and lying in parallel spaced relation to the shank, the configuration of the tongue and its location being such as to prevent stacking or nesting of weld pins in a manner which would preclude their being separated for automatic feeding, the tongue also serving as a stop in the course of welding, to preclude over-melting of the shank or damaging of the insulation.

  • Patent number: 4020296
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved electroacoustic transducer of the type in which electrical conductors are mounted over a substantial portion of the radiating area of a movable diaphragm, characterized in that the electromagnetic forces exerted on the diaphragm are linear throughout the entire excursion of the diaphragm. The apparatus includes an acoustically transparent solenoid member having spaced-apart turns, the diaphragm being disposed within the area bounded by the solenoid turns, and having a conductor mounted on or comprising the diaphragm. A D.C. current is passed through the coil while the output of an audio amplifier is impressed on the conductor. The above arrangement is unique in that the flux density within the area bounded by the solenoid being essentially equal at all points, the conductor is subjected to essentially constant magnetic forces, notwithstanding its position within the solenoid.
