    Abstract: An ion pump having emissions containment. The ion pump includes an anode constructed from a plurality of tubes and a cathode constructed from plates positioned on opposite sides of the anode and positioned apart from the anode. The anode and cathode are positioned within a gastight housing having a gas inlet. A blocking shield assembly is provided within the line of sight between the gas inlet and the cathode. The blocking shield assembly is also provided within the line of sight between the gas inlet and any surface within the ion pump that itself is within the line of sight of the cathode. The blocking shield assembly prevents photons and neutral particles from being emitted from the ion pump.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the invention can include a method for reducing MRI interference from a physiological electrical signal received in an implantable medical device. The method can include the steps of amplifying the physiological electrical signal with a high bandwidth amplifier and sampling the amplified physiological electrical signal at a sampling frequency of at least 8 kHz to obtain a first high-frequency sequence of samples. The method can further includes the steps of processing the first high-frequency sequence of samples to identify a signal artifact that is characteristic of MRI interference and creating a second high-frequency sequence of samples by reducing the signal artifact characteristic of MRI interference from the first sequence of samples. Embodiments can also include a method of determining a heart rate from a physiological electrical signal received in an implantable medical device.

    Abstract: Effective sustained release of microbial pesticides in aquatic environments can be achieved by the combination of buoyant particles with a particulate microbial active ingredient. The resulting materials in the form of a particulate have combined density of less than one. The materials are then dispersed into gypsum slurry that is poured into briquette molds, or made into granules or pellets of various sizes, to form a solid, sinking, pest control composition. Once applied in aquatic field sites, the surface of the matrix slowly dissolves, releasing many minute buoyant pesticide laden particles to the water surface over the life of the product. Once at the surface, the particulate microbial pesticide(s) release from the buoyant particles and are distributed throughout the water column to be ingested by susceptible immature filter feeding mosquitoes and pestiferous flies.

    Abstract: The reactor pump for hydrolytic splitting of cellulose is configured to pump cellulose, under high pressure, with low availability of sugar into a reactor. The reactor has an upstream transition segment connected to a downstream reaction chamber. The transition segment has an inlet that is smaller than the outlet. The inner walls taper outward. The chamber has an inlet that is larger than the discharge outlet. The inner walls taper inward. The transition segment outlet has an area that is substantially the same as the area of the chamber inlet. Back pressure in the chamber forms a cellulose plug within the inlet of the transition segment. The plug stops cellulose from escaping out the inlet. High pressure pumping forms a cellulose plug within the discharge outlet of the chamber. The plug slows downstream movement of the cooking cellulose giving the cellulose time to cook. Cooking cellulose begins to breakdown under heat and the injection of acid, if required.

    Abstract: A reactor for hydrolytic splitting of cellulose under high pressure and heat has an inlet and outlet each with a cross-sectional area smaller than the cross-sectional area of the reactor. The pressure and heat in the reactor forms a cellulose plug within the inlet and the outlet. The inlet plug stops cellulose from escaping out the inlet. Cellulose begins to breakdown under heat, pressure, and if required an acid or a lubricant. The outlet plug slows downstream movement of cooking cellulose. Cellulose may be pre-treated by the addition of water, a weak acid, a lubricant, or a combination of the foregoing. The outer surface of the plug cooks faster than the inner core of the plug, becomes a liquefied slurry, and slides faster towards the outlet than the inner core.
