  • Patent number: 5970097
Abstract: An arithmetic apparatus comprising a memory 1 for storing path select signals, a barrel shifter 3 for shifting data read from the memory, a shift register 4 for receiving a bit shifted to a MSB by the barrel shifter and means 5 for generating the number of shifts which are performed by the barrel shifter by converting data positioned at a specific bit position in the shift register, wherein path select signals at the same time are divided into a plurality of groups, and then stored in the memory, and the arithmetic apparatus includes address generating means 10 for outputting the address, and address conversion means 7 for generating the address of the group which must be read by combining the address and a value of a specific bit position in the shift register with each other. Thus, tracing back in Viterbi decoding can be performed with a short bit width.

  • Patent number: 5966965
Abstract: A ventilation system for an absorption refrigerator having a condenser and an absorber and located in a recreational vehicle. The ventilation system includes a generally vertical air passage in which the condenser and the absorber are located, a lower vent for the intake of ambient air into the air passage, an upper vent for exhausting heated air from the air passage, and an air assist system for forcing air flow through the air passage only when the temperature of the ambient air is too high for an efficient natural draft. The air assist system includes a blower positioned to promote airflow within the air passage over the condenser and the absorber, a temperature activated thermal switch positioned to sense ambient temperature and adapted to energize the blower only when the ambient temperature is above a predetermined value, and a power switch connected in series to the thermal switch to activate and deactivate the system.

  • Patent number: 5967495
Abstract: An improved cable feeder uses tractor type drive belts and compressed air to propel cable through a conduit. The axial force applied to the cable is sensed with a strain gauge near the conduit or a pressure detector in a hydraulic system powering the drive belts. If excessive force is applied, hydraulic fluid is diverted from the drive belts. The radial force applied to the cable is limited by a calibrated spring. The feeder can also be arranged in a mid-assist configuration. Conduits and the cable are sealed to maintain air pressure. A by-pass pipe is provided to convey pressurized air from a first conduit to a succeeding conduit.

  • Patent number: 5965512
Abstract: A biodegradable liquid degreaser for use as a parts cleaner is described. The composition includes from about 0.5% to about 2% by weight of an alkali metal hydroxide; from about 0.5% to about 5% by weight of a corrosion inhibitor; from about 1.5% to about 15% by weight of a biodegradable terpene solvent; from about 5% to about 30% by weight of a biodegradable surfactant; from about 5% to about 15% by weight of a biodegradable co-solvent/co-surfactant and the balance consisting of water. The composition provides excellent degreasing of machine parts while being safe and pleasant to use. The advantage is an inexpensive, completely biodegradable, non-volatile composition for use as a machine part degreaser.

  • Patent number: 5966666
Abstract: A frequency synthesizer consists of a voltage-controlled oscillator and a frequency division and distribution section. The frequency division and distribution section, which splits an oscillation signal of the voltage-controlled oscillator into a transmission modulation local oscillation signal and a reception second local oscillation signal while frequency-dividing the oscillation signal of the voltage-controlled oscillator, includes two pairs of frequency dividers and two switches. The frequency division numbers of the two pairs of frequency dividers are so set as to accommodate all the combinations of mobile communications systems and the transmission modulation local oscillation signal/reception second local oscillation signal. The two switches are switched in accordance with a mobile communications system for which a mobile transceiver is operating. The two local oscillation signals are input to a quadrature modulator and a quadrature demodulator, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5965236
Abstract: A large-sized and heavy part (1) of plastic material is injection molded. Localized zones are created in which the thermal conductance of the part (1) is higher in the surface impressions (10) at the mold ejectors for the removal of the part after it has been molded. In a preferred embodiment, the outer surface of the part (1) has, at the surface impressions (10), clusters of closed-bottom pits (13) formed by grids of mini-ribs (11) and (12) arranged perpendicularly with respect to each other. The thickness of the part varies from a maximum value (S1) at the periphery of the cavity to a minimum value (S2) at the bottom of a substantial number of the pits (13).

  • Patent number: 5961091
Abstract: A pole support for use on decked surfaces consisting of planks with a gap between the planks is described. The pole support includes a base and at least one I-shaped retainer bar for quickly and easily attaching and releasing the base from the deck surface. The base includes a tubular sleeve for supporting the pole in a predetermined orientation with respect to the base. The pole support is useful for attaching articles such as umbrella tables or plant stands to a decked surface. The advantage is a simple, inexpensively constructed pole support which is not susceptible to corrosion and may be rapidly connected to or disconnected from a decked surface without the use of tools.

  • Patent number: 5961085
Abstract: An adjustable support arm for an operating room table includes an attachment, a support rod having an end pivotally attached to the attachment and pivotable about a lithotomy axis, and a lithotomy locking cylinder operably attached to the support rod. The lithotomy locking cylinder can be unlocked to raise or lower the support rod about the lithotomy axis and locked to retain the support rod in the desired lithotomy position. The lithotomy locking cylinder is infinitely adjustable over a range and can provide an assisting lift force. The support rod can also be pivotable about an abduction axis with an abduction locking cylinder operably attached to the support rod. The abduction locking cylinder can be unlocked to laterally pivot the support rod about the abduction axis and locked to retain the support rod in the desired abduction position. The abduction locking cylinder is infinitely adjustable over a range and can provide a bias force to a minimum abduction position.

  • Patent number: 5962167
Abstract: A non-aqueous liquid electrolyte secondary cell capable of preventing bursting or explosion thereof even when a current breaking device or a relief valve for pressure release fails in operation thereof due to any trouble or failure thereof. The cell includes a wound-up body formed by laminatedly spirally winding up a positive electrode and a negative electrode together while interposing a separator therebetween. The wound-up body thus formed is received in a cell can. The negative electrode is constructed by forming a negative active material layer containing amorphous carbon on each of both surfaces of a negative collector. The positive electrode is constructed by forming a positive active material layer containing LixCoO.sub.2 on each of both surfaces of a positive collector. The negative electrode is electrically connected to the cell can through a negative electrode lead.
