Patent number: 4619555Abstract: Improvements in the technique of sliplining a buried pipe, so as to minimize adverse affects of differences in expansion and contraction of the old and new pipe, while maintaining seals at the ends thereof is disclosed employing at each pipe end a sleeve-like pliable gasket, which is expanded outwardly into contact with the inner surface of the old pipe, and somewhat beyond the end of the old pipe, is contracted inwardly into contact with the other surface of the new or sliplined pipe. The sleeve-like gasket can compensate for thermally induced pipe line and liner axial length changes, without breaking the seal between the two, while seal installation is facilitated by the accessability of the sleeve-like gaskets extending beyond the ends of the old pipe.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1984Date of Patent: October 28, 1986Assignee: Press-Seal Gasket CorporationInventors: Harry W. Patent number: 4618791Abstract: A rotor assembly for an alternating current motor has a stator to cooperate with the rotor assembly. The rotor assembly includes a magnetically permeable rotor mass of a stack of rotor laminations which are mounted on a hub, and the hub is secured to a shaft which rotates in a stationary bearing fixed to the motor frame. The rotor mass includes apertures which extend longitudinally and die cast squirrel cage conductor bars extend through these apertures. Integral with the rotor assembly is a die cast extension on the rotor mass coaxially on one end thereof. This coaxial die cast extension surrounds one end of the shaft and is adapted to be connected directly to a load to transmit torque directly from the conductor bars of the squirrel cage winding from the load without the necessity of the torque passing through the shaft. The die cast extension may also have a non-circular configuration for readily transmitting torque to the load.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 1985Date of Patent: October 21, 1986Inventors: Giles W. Patent number: 4617084Abstract: Process for the preparation of metallic or semimetallic shaped elements, particularly of silicon, in a molten coating bath.Into a confinement crucible is placed the molten basic semimetallic metallic material and a molten coating bath which is inert with respect to said material and whose melting temperature is below that of the material. Into the material is introduced at least one frame-like part, made from a refractory material whose thickness for wetting is greater with respect to the metallic or semimetallic material than with respect to the molten coating bath. A metallic or semimetallic material shaped element is then produced on the frame by the slow displacement of all or part thereof. This shaped element is solidified in the liquid coating bath and finally the complete frame and the solidified shaped element are removed from the bath.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1984Date of Patent: October 14, 1986Assignee: Commissariat a l'Energie AtomiqueInventor: Claude Potard

Patent number: 4617680Abstract: A Geiger-Mueller tube-based radiation measurement device includes circuitry for the correction of the dead time losses associated with the Geiger-Mueller tube. As the event count rate rises, the transfer function (e.g., the closed loop voltage gain) of an operational amplifier responding to an event count rate signal is modified to compensate for dead time losses experienced at high count rates. Preferably, an analog switch controlled by the event count rate signal automatically sets the voltage gain of the operational amplifier at a level corresponding to the desired amount of dead time compensation required to provide an accurate measurement of actual events. The dead time correction circuitry disclosed herein finds practical application in the use of well-known analog rate meter circuits of the charge pump type.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1983Date of Patent: October 14, 1986Assignee: Bicron CorporationInventor: Joseph G. Patent number: 4615644Abstract: The invention provides a tunnel lining and a method of constructing the tunnel lining by aligning prestressed resilient lining panels of uniform thickness, such as plywood sheets, where longitudinal edges of the panels abut to form a ring. The longitudinal edges of the panel correspond to, and impose thrust against a second longitudinal edge of an adjacent panel. The thrust causes bending of the panels to form an arc about the longitudinal axis of the panels and to cause internal stresses within the ring to counteract loads applied at the exterior of the panels. The ring can consist of multiple layers of panels.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1986Date of Patent: October 7, 1986Assignee: Mole Constuction CompanyInventors: Renon M. Hoge, Albert A. Mathews

Patent number: 4611453Abstract: A suspension ceiling grid system is disclosed which provides intersections including through-runners and oppositely extending runner ends. The through-runner is provided with a connector opening and the runner ends are provided with identical end connectors. The end connectors are engaged and disengaged by lateral movement and provide spring means which resiliently urge the end connectors toward the locked position. The end connectors provide two locking systems, one of which provides a connection with the through-runner when only one connector is installed in the connector opening, and subsequently provides an improved strength functionally direct connection between the two end connectors when two end connectors are installed within the connector opening from opposite sides. The end connectors provide a second separate locking system which directly connects between the two end connectors. In one embodiment, a connector system is disclosed which allows easy removal of a runner within an assembled grid.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1985Date of Patent: September 16, 1986Assignee: Donn IncorporatedInventor: Robert F. Patent number: 4610270Abstract: A pilot-operated, directional flow control valve includes a movable spool member axially slidable between two positions within a cylindrical bore provided by a multi-ported valve body. An integral portion of the valve body serves as a housing for an inverted, cup-shaped filter element having its lip portion spring-biased downwardly against an annular seating surface. The filter element housing portion of the valve body provides a horizontally extending blind bore functioning as a supply fluid inlet port to the valve. The blind bore inlet communicates with an inlet to the interior of the filter element, the filter element extending perpendicularly upwardly from a point spaced from the terminal end of the blind bore inlet. The orientation of the horizontally extending blind bore inlet relative to the vertically extending filter inlet provides a mechanical filtering action to trap heavy dirt particles at the end of the blind bore before they can enter into the filter element and prematurely clog it.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1985Date of Patent: September 9, 1986Assignee: Teledyne Industries, Inc.Inventor: Richard C.
