    Abstract: A fixture support clip is disclosed for use with a suspension ceiling grid system. Such grid system provides transversely interconnecting runners having a central web and opposed ceiling support flanges for supporting ceiling members such as ceiling tiles or lighting fixtures. The clip provides shelf means for supporting a corner portion of a ceiling member. The shelf means is supported at the lower end of two posts. The posts carry hook means at their upper end which are removably attached to the upper extremities of the transversely interconnecting runners near the corners thereof. The lengths of the posts are selected so that the shelf means lies substantially parallel with and vertically adjacent to the support flanges and provides a greater support area to a corner portion of a ceiling member than provided by the flanges.

    Abstract: A modular, block-shaped insulating unit for use in an insulating system for the interior of a high-temperature furnace or the like. The module comprises a plurality of short, ropelike lengths formed of braided strands, assembled in side-by-side relation to form a bundle. The strands are formed of twisted, generally parallel ceramic fibers spun into cords and assembled or braided into a rope, which is then cut into generally equal lengths. The lengths are retained in a tightly compacted condition whereby the ends of the fibers define a front planar face of the module, with the fibers being aligned in a generally perpendicular orientation relative to the front planar face.

    Abstract: Method and means for solidifying nuclear waste for permanent disposal are disclosed. A storage container, in the preferred form of a drum or barrel, is charged with a predetermined amount of liquid polymer resin in an uncatalyzed state. Catalyst-containing frangible ampoules are also positioned in the drum with a rotatable mixer mechanism. At a waste filling station, the mixer is rotated to break the ampoules so as to mix the catalyst and the resin. The catalyzed resin is then mixed with added waste material to completely encapsulate the waste prior to solidification of the resin. Monitoring of the filling and mixing process is provided by continually sensing the torque force being applied to the rotating mixer mechanism. Where the waste is a dust-like, dry particulate material, dust control means and method are also provided.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of high purity alpha mercuric iodide for use as a starting material source for the growth of monocrystals usable for nuclear detection.This process consists of synthesizing alpha mercuric iodide and subjecting the thus obtained alpha mercuric iodide to a purification treatment consisting of at least one vacuum distillation stage at a temperature of at least 255.degree. C.For this distillation stage, use is made of a reactor having three zones kept at different temperatures. The iodide to be purified is introduced into the first zone kept at at least 255.degree. C. The mercuric iodide vapors pass through the second zone kept at a higher temperature before being condensed in the air-cooled third zone.

    Abstract: A crystallization process is disclosed for separating a crystallizable material and an excluded material which is at least partially excluded from the solid phase obtained upon freezing a liquid mixture of the materials. The solid phase is formed and melted at spaced locations in a liquid mixture of the materials and, within the liquid mixture, internal solid and liquid flows are maintained in opposite directions to effect separation of the materials. The solid phase is formed by evaporative cooling of the liquid mixture and melted by direct contact with a condensing vapor phase of the materials, each of these operations being performed substantially at the prevailing triple point locus conditions in the respective locations in the liquid mixture.

    Abstract: A sequential ratchet drive for an appliance timing cam is disclosed. The drive includes a pawl adapted to drive ratchet teeth located on the periphery of a main program cam in a step-by-step manner. The pawl is driven and guided by cams against and with the bias of springs in an initial tangential drive path in driving engagement with a ratchet tooth. The cams guide the pawl out of engagement with the driven tooth in a curvilinear retraction path with the bias of a first spring and against the bias of a second spring to a raised location and then the pawl is returned to its initial driving position by the bias of both springs. A portion of the path of travel of the pawl from its raised location to its initial position may be defined by a portion of a ratchet tooth so that the retraction path of the pawl may adapt itself to a variety of varying tooth spacings.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a powder distributor for dosing and conveying a powder up to a use apparatus. The distributor comprises a pressurized storage tank, a dosing vibrating bowl and an Archimedean screw or a valve for transferring the powder from the tank to the bowl. The putting into operation of the screw is controlled as a function of the powder level in the bowl. The vibrating bowl is placed in a tight enclosure into which is injected a carrier gas used for conveying the powder in a pipe up to the use apparatus. An accelerometer carried by the vibrating bowl makes it possible to check the weight of the powder supplied by the latter. Application more particularly to hot spray guns, such as chemical flame torches and quenches arc plasma torch guns, in a free or controlled atmosphere.

    Abstract: A machine pistol with means for retarding blowback of the slide assembly. The device has both right hand and left hand stocks to enable the weapon to be fired from a comfortable visual sighting position at eye level with the wrist axes perpendicular to one another. The slide assembly includes a bolt that carries the firing pin, extractor and ejector and that reciprocates relative to the receiver and barrel, and a tubular cylindrical muzzle sleeve removably connected to the forward end of the bolt and that fits coaxially around the barrel. A coaxial helical spring fits between the barrel and muzzle sleeve to urge the muzzle sleeve (and bolt) to the forward firing position wherein the forward end of the muzzle sleeve extends outwardly beyond the end of the barrel.

    Abstract: A system for interlocking the edges and corners of adjacent panels of a pedestal supported, elevated floor construction. Edge and corner clamp units are put in place after set-up of the panels. The edge clamp units include a lower elongated element which drops through a similarly shaped gap between adjacent panels and is then rotated 90.degree. out of alignment. A screw turned from the space above the floor draws the lower clamp element towards an upper clamp element to grip and interlock intervening edges of the adjacent panels. Adjacent corners of four panels are interlocked to a supporting pedestal by an overlying clamp plate. This corner clamp plate is releasably secured to the pedestal by an individual screw which is also tightened from the space above the floor.

The system may be incorporated in supermarket checkouts or any other application where it is necessary for bags to be held open while being loaded.

    Abstract: A window system for demountable walls is disclosed which eliminates the necessity of custom-sizing of windows to compensate for variations in floor-to-ceiling spacing. The window system provides jacking means mounted on the lower window frame member which are operable to adjust the height of the window from the floor to compensate for variations in floor-to-ceiling spacing. A floor trim assembly includes cover plates which extend up and over the lower framing member and jacking system to obscure both from view. Such cover plates rest on the floor to provide a uniform height lower window trim that follows the floor line. A baseboard and upper trim system extends uniformly along the window and adjacent wall panels to provide an integrated window and wall system. The side framing members connect to sheet metal wall studs for additional strength and enclose the adjacent stud in instances in which windows are mounted adjacent to each other.
