    Abstract: A user installed bookmark formed as an assembly of a flat anchor and an elongate flexible marker. The anchor is provided with a pressure sensitive adhesive which serves at an integral tail portion to retain the marker and, when exposed by removing a backing layer, serves to fix the assembly to a book. The release backing includes a convenient pull tab donated from a tail portion of an anchor when these elements are blanked from sheet stock.

    Abstract: A method of producing bimetal electrodes is disclosed in which a core of one metal is positioned within a cup of another metal so that the core is recessed back from the open end of the cup. In two embodiments, where the core is fully encapsulated, the open end of the cup is initially bottled or bent inward and subsequently the assembly is pressed through an extrusion die with a tool having a nose with an area substantially equal to the area of the core. In one such embodiment, a weld lug is produced by said tool during the extrusion. Such tool completes the closing of the open end of the cup to fully encapsulate the core and applies the principal extrusion force through the closed end to the core and from the core to the forward end or originally closed end of the cup. Subsequently, the extruded part is trimmed and additionally worked as required. In another embodiment, similar tooling is provided to produce an electrode in which the core is not fully encapsulated.

As disclosed, the trim elements are of an organic thermoplastic material and are ultrasonically welded together at their ends and thermoplastically deformed into receiving portions of the main body edges. An assembly fixture holds the trim elements in position for final assembly in a manner which reduces the size of any gaps which might occur as a result of dimensional tolerances in the panel components.

    Abstract: A method of securing a tube, such as a condenser tube for a refrigeration cabinet, to the inside of the outer walls of the cabinet by means of direct welding between the tube and the oil panel of the cabinet. The tubing is formed to the desired configuration and a plurality of projections are formed on the tube for welding to the surface by a crimping action which indents the sidewalls of the tube at each weld location to produce a projection beyond the normal tubing wall while the rest of the tubing remains undeformed. Subsequently, the configuration of tubing is placed on the sheet and resistance-welded under conditions to produce a relatively light weld adhesion with a small weld nugget that does not create any significant discoloration or distortion on the other side of the sheet which becomes the finished exterior surface of the cabinet.

    Abstract: A pulse combustion burner having a multi-apertured combustion chamber wall surrounded by a primary heat transfer zone. Gas jets issuing out of the wall apertures induce high turbulence in the gas flow path through the heat transfer zone and thereby promote an exceptionally high level of heat exchange. Dimensions of the gas flow path, including the primary heat transfer zone, are arranged to cause the primary heat transfer zone to serve as an effective portion of the tailpipe of the burner. Both the high heat transfer capability and reduced tailpipe length permit reduction in the overall size of a burner unit.

    Abstract: A battery-operated dust cup type, hand-held vacuum cleaner is provided with wall-mounted store-and-charge means that supports the cleaner in upwardly pointed position. The cleaner is also rechargeable independently of the storage bracket, using the same charging means. The flap valve associated with the vacuum nozzle of the cleaner is backwardly slanted from the intake mouth in closed position. The flap valve seals on a lip extending around the inner periphery of the nose end of the dust cup. The intake mouth is provided with a serration or comb forming a re-entrant lip at the bottom side of the mouth. The dust bag is mounted independently of the dust cup but also without use of special brackets forward of the vacuum intake. Latch means for the dust cup is mounted immediately adjacent the power switch, and is mechanically arranged to be "forgiving" of variations in manufacturing tolerance.

    Abstract: A rug cleaning attachment for a vacuum cleaner is disclosed. The attachment has a suds confining chamber and a scrubbing brush roll mounted thereon for rotation about a horizontal axis within the chamber. The brush roll has a multiplicity of tufts which are adapted to scrub suds into the rug and which define a cylindrical envelope upon rotation of the brush roll. A shield closely conforms to the cylindrical element and guards against suds being centrifugally thrown into the drive and/or suction components of the vacuum cleaner. A scalloped doctor blade is provided for the brush roll which projects into the cylindrical envelope defined by the tufts to scrape spent suds and lint from the brush roll.

    Abstract: Honeycomb floor panels for use in elevated floors or the like are disclosed. The honeycomb structure provides similar metal strips providing lateral cuts along one edge providing angulated tabs. The angulation of the tabs provides an angulated throat having a width substantially greater than the thickness of the strips so that the strips can be assembled in an interfitting relationship while the strips of the two arrays are angulated with respect to each other. After assembly, the arrays are moved to a substantially perpendicular position, and in such position a tight fitting relationship is achieved to eliminate looseness. Such honeycomb is provided, in accordance with one embodiment, with upper and lower metal sheets which are welded or otherwise fastened to the honeycomb itself. In such embodiment, an additional upper surface sheet is provided to prevent denting and to distribute concentrated loads to prevent crushing of the honeycomb. Sound deadening is provided between the two upper sheets.

    Abstract: A cyclonic device for separating entrained matter from a fluid stream under pressure includes a vortex chamber having a longitudinally upright cylindrical part and a subjacent frusto-conical part. Inlet and outlet means are provided for causing the fluid stream to flow first in a downward spiral and then along an ascending vortex. The entrained matter is separated from the fluid stream by centrifugal and inertial forces acting thereon from the swirling fluid flow. A cylindrical filter screen is provided concentrically disposed within the chamber and defines an area through the ascending vortex flows. The filter screen further separates relatively less dense matter from the fluid stream prior to the fluid flowing along the ascending vortex. A freely buoyant spherical ball is provided which acts as a check valve to close the chamber outlet means when a predetermined level of separated matter accumulates in the chamber.

    Abstract: A three or four-terminal electronic control circuit utilizes a thyristor and a transistor connected in their regenerative circuit or, alternatively, three transistors interconnected in a regenerative circuit. The thyristor is connected to operate in a remote base mode as a low gain PNP transistor, together with a bipolar NPN transistor. The thyristor and transistor are connected in a regenerative circuit which results in very high gain, low input current, with low cost and complete control for ON and OFF, and even intermediate range conditions due to direct access to the base of the NPN transistor. A switch may be connected to the base of the NPN transistor to control the current thereinto, and when current flows into this base, then the transistor and thyristor are connected toward regenerative conduction. When the base current is terminated by the switch, then the circuit degenerates toward non-conduction.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for an air bearing support of a rotatable tooling bar, such as a boring bar. One or two mandrels may be provided for this tooling bar to form a complete mandrel assembly with the tooling bar. An air pressure expansible collet is provided on each mandrel so that each may be clamped within a clamping aperture, such as an aperture on the workpiece itself. Air under pressure is supplied to the two mandrels simultaneously to accomplish, first, an air bearing centering of each mandrel around the tooling bar as a guide; second, an expansion of the collet on each mandrel for clamping of each mandrel within the clamping apertures; and, third, provision of an air bearing support and centering of the tooling bar within the two mandrels during machining for precise machining of the workpiece by the continued air supply.
