Patent number: 7954109Abstract: Systems, device and methods are provided for displaying time sorted data events captured in a multi-protocol communications system. Initially, data events are captured in connection with detection of one or more trigger conditions, and each captured data event includes a clock timestamp. The captured data events are then sorted and displayed by a graphical user interface according to their respective clock timestamp. Once the data events have been sorted and displayed, then the temporal relationships and causal relationships, if any, between and among the captured data events can be determined.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2004Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Assignee: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventors: Douglas Durham, Dominic Coupal, Andrew J. Patent number: 7948974Abstract: Creating a low-bandwidth channel in a high-bandwidth channel. By taking advantage of extra bandwidth in a high-bandwidth channel, a low-bandwidth channel is created by inserting extra packets. When an inter-packet gap of the proper duration is detected, the extra packet is inserted and any incoming packets on the high-bandwidth channel are stored in an elastic buffer. Observing inter-packet gaps, minimal latency is introduced in the high-bandwidth channel when there is no extra packet in the process of being sent, and the effects of sending a packet on the low-bandwidth channel are absorbed and distributed among other passing traffic.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2007Date of Patent: May 24, 2011Assignee: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventors: Slawomir K. Patent number: 7948006Abstract: A photodetector with an improved electrostatic discharge damage threshold is disclosed, suitable for applications in telecommunication systems operating at elevated data rates. The photodetector may be a PIN or an APD fabricated in the InP compound semiconductor system. The increased ESD damage threshold is achieved by reducing the ESD induced current density in the photodetector by a suitable widening of the contact at a critical location, increasing the series resistance and promoting lateral current spreading by means of a current spreading layer.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2009Date of Patent: May 24, 2011Assignee: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventors: Zhong Pan, David Venables

Patent number: 7944848Abstract: The problem is that a measurement of the average signal quality (average modulation error ratio), does not identify poor quality signals that may be originating from an individual cable modem. The device of the present invention displays the modulation error ratio (MER) for each packet received. Since the media access control (MAC) address is associated with a packet received from an individual cable modem, a graph displaying the MER for each packet received is also displaying the MER for signals from the individual cable modems. Thus a technician viewing the display will be able to identify whether a low MER is a result of an impairment in the network or the from an individual cable modem.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2008Date of Patent: May 17, 2011Assignee: Acterna LLCInventors: Daniel K. Patent number: 7934451Abstract: A printing apparatus includes a magnetic rotatable roller with a smooth even outer surface for aligning magnetic flakes in a carrier, such as an ink vehicle or a paint vehicle to create optically variable images in a high-speed, linear printing operation. Images can provide security features on high-value documents, such as bank notes. Magnetic flakes in the ink are aligned using magnetic portions of the roller, that can be formed by permanent magnets embedded in a non-magnetic roller body, or selectively magnetized portions of a flexible magnetic cover of the roller. In some embodiments, the roller is assembled for a plurality of interchangeable sections, which can include spinning magnets. Selected orientation of the magnetic pigment flakes can achieve a variety of illusive optical effects that are useful for decorative or security applications.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2007Date of Patent: May 3, 2011Assignee: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventors: Vladimir P. Patent number: 7936916Abstract: A video quality measurement (VQM) system for a video stream includes a neural network VQM module having a constructed architecture to calculate a video quality metric based on a hybrid of image metric and packet metric of the video stream. An image metric measuring module receives the video stream and calculates the image metric of the video stream. A packet metric measuring module obtains information about packet-level characteristics of the video stream to calculate the packet metric. The image metric and the packet metric are inputted to the neural network VQM module to calculate the video quality metric. The VQM system further includes a VQM test-bed that determines and validates the architecture of the neural network VQM module. Furthermore, a video quality measurement (VQM) method based on a hybrid of image metric and packet metric is also described.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2007Date of Patent: May 3, 2011Assignee: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventors: Chunhong Zhang, Xin-yu Ma, Guosong Zhang

Patent number: 7936688Abstract: A cross-port analysis method is provided to analyze multichannel traces in a network. More particularly, cross-port analysis is a method allowing for aggregate network analysis capabilities from a multi-channel analyzer. This can be performed as traces of network traffic generated by each port on two or more analyzers. Precise timestamps are recorded for each trace and the topology of devices on the network is determined. An expert analysis is then performed on the captured data traces.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2004Date of Patent: May 3, 2011Assignee: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventors: Steven Ronald Klotz, Jason David Mann, Timothy Lane McDaniel

Patent number: 7907656Abstract: A harmonic frequency conversion module is disclosed including a polarization maintaining (PM) fiber optical link for providing an output stabilized from power fluctuation by the inclusion of one or more polarizers in the PM fiber optical link. Removing polarization distortions removes noise which has a significant negative effect on the output of harmonic frequency conversion elements. It has been found that the noise in frequency converted light has additional components, caused by mode interaction during conversion. In accordance with the present invention, we are able to remove the spikes in this noise, making it more stable and less dependent on external conditions. If the PM optical fiber route consists of multiple elements creating polarization distortions, a polarizer should be inserted between the most distorting element and the output of the fiber system. If many elements contribute to polarization distortions, several polarizers can be inserted into the system.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 2007Date of Patent: March 15, 2011Assignee: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventors: Boris Kharlamov, Vincent Issier, Andy Miller

Patent number: 7898430Abstract: Measurement sensors are designed to provide metadata to data recording devices in an opportunistic manner to conserve bandwidth and/or power. In one embodiment, the metadata is communicated to the recording device during opportunistic periods, such as, for example, when actual data transmission can be skipped, or when battery level is high, or when there is enough bandwidth, i.e., other sensors are not using the full allocated bandwidth. In one embodiment, a plurality of sensors each only send a portion of their data such that all the portions taken together form the complete metadata. In another embodiment, each sensor only sends an identification of its type and the receiving device “looks up” the full metadata from a database.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2005Date of Patent: March 1, 2011Assignee: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventors: Glenn R.
