  • Patent number: 7894477
Abstract: Systems and methods for framing mobile communication signals for analysis are disclosed herein. In one example, a framing module of a mobile communication system comprises a channel extractor, a framing path, and a feedback path. The channel extractor enables a user to assign voice and data channels in a number of timeslots. The framing path is configured to monitor parameters of the channels and assemble pieces of channel information to create a frame. The feedback path is configured to analyze a signaling channel from the frame and to analyze one or more parameters of the signaling channel to determine a list of appropriate framing protocols. The framing path is further configured to determine whether a framing protocol for a frame is included in the framing protocol list.

  • Patent number: 7889991
Abstract: The invention relates to a tunable optical add/drop module (TOADM) monolithically integrated on a single planar lightwave circuit (PLC). The present invention overcomes the shortcomings of the prior art by providing virtual pupils at the interface between the channel waveguides and the slab waveguide on the PLC for focusing each wavelength channel, and additional on-chip lenses on the PLC for transforming the focal plane of the spatially dispersive demultiplexer into a substantially flat plane at the edge of the PLC. On-chip lenses are realized as reflective surfaces within slab waveguiding regions having a surface curvature to provide optical power.

  • Patent number: 7872735
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for calibrating a MEMS actuator of a hybrid MEMS-PLC optical switch or router is described. Two calibrating waveguides, embedded monolithically adjacent to the waveguides that provide the PLC output functions, are used for referencing a MEMS mirror tilt angle by maximizing optical coupling of light, reflected off the MEMS mirror, into one or each of the two calibrating waveguides. The input light is provided by either a waveguide carrying a live optical signal, or by a special input waveguide, coupled to an LED, for providing a calibrating light. Two emitting waveguides, embedded monolithically adjacent to the waveguides that provide the PLC input functions, can be used.

  • Patent number: 7873873
Abstract: In conventional testing, the user is using an on-hand computing device to control testing; however, for the present invention the user is at the access point and the computer is remote, e.g. nearby or in the technician's vehicle, and not being used by the user to run the tests. The present invention provides a means to conveniently connect a customer provided network access device, e.g. a USB “dongle” modem, via a wireless link to the remote computer, which is providing the test application. The computer is remote, and the remote module device extends the reach of the commercial dongle modem so it is not necessary to carry the computer to the test access point.

  • Patent number: 7873322
Abstract: The testing device of the present invention includes an RF input for connecting to a subscriber network, which has been disconnected from a communication network, for receiving ingress RF signals leaked into the subscriber network from outside sources. The device includes a signal processor for scanning the RF signals for power levels at a plurality of frequencies, and generating power level signals based at least in part on the power levels. Ideally, the power levels are compared to a threshold power level representing an acceptable amount of ingress, and a pass/fail indicator is displayed based on whether the power levels exceed the threshold power level.

  • Patent number: 7869157
Abstract: In a dual-stage actuator magnetic drive having a coarse actuator and a fine actuator, an amplitude level of a command signal for the fine actuator during a decoupling-path control depends on a gain of an applied fine actuator model. The fine actuator model gain depends on the amplitude level of the fine actuator command signal and needs to be calibrated to avoid performance degradation. The gain is calibrated by determining a deviation of the fine actuator model gain from the fine actuator gain during decoupling-path control. This deviation is obtained by comparing gain values of the open-loop transfer functions measured for the decoupling-path control case and the single coarse actuator control case with respect to the feedback loop of the coarse actuator at an excitation signal frequency, when the excitation signal is added to the coarse actuator.

  • Patent number: 7860965
Abstract: A network monitoring architecture and methodology enabling performance detection and diagnostics in storage area networks or other networks. The network monitoring is performed using a three-tiered distributed computing system architecture, including a data source tier, a portal tier and a client tier. The data source tier monitors the physical data on the network medium using multiple data collection sources, or data probes, connected to the network. The probes analyze network data and generate metrics that describe attributes of the network data. The metrics are synchronized in time by virtue of time stamps associated with the data monitored by the data probes. The time-synchronized metrics are used by the data portal tier, which is the second tier of the system. The portal tier encapsulates the metrics into data containers. The data containers may be requested by the client tier, which is the third tier in the network monitoring system.
