  • Patent number: 4932016
Abstract: Apparatus and method of recording and reproducing data using a disk to record musical performance data. Data related to the music and start times for each piece of music are recorded onto a table of contents section of the disk and the operation is controlled according to this data. Therefore, wasteful reproduction operation is avoided when there exists non-recorded areas between pieces of music or when a piece of music shorter than the initial piece of music is recorded overlapped thereon, enabling the music to be favorably reproduced. In carrying out the (sound) recording operation, furthermore, the non-recorded areas can quickly be found.

  • Patent number: 4930004
Abstract: An automatic level adjusting system for a television receiver which is suitable as its automatic white balance adjusting circuit. In the manufacturing-process of the television receiver, desired data is selected from a positional data group of black or white reference pulse signal to be inserted into a video signal and is stored in a non-volatile memory, whereby when an image is reproduced, black or white level of the video signal is adjusted automatically on the basis of the data stored in the non-volatile memory. Thus, the insertion position of black or white reference pulse signal can be changed without modifying the hardware of the television receiver so that the automatic level adjusting system can be applied commonly to different types of television receivers.

  • Patent number: 4925717
Abstract: A disk-like recording medium is provided with recording tracks (TK), each of which includes recording sectors (SC.sub.1, SC.sub.2, . . . , SC.sub.m). Each of the recording sectors includes a recording region (AR.sub.C) for control and a subsequent region (AR.sub.D) for writing data. The invention further deals with a disk apparatus using the disk-like recording medium. In the recording region (AR.sub.C) for control of the disk-like recording medium are provided a clock data pit (Q.sub.B), a pair of tracking data bit (Q.sub.A, Q.sub.C) positioned inside and outside a track center line (K.sub.C) being separated at a predetermined distance from the clock data pit (Q.sub.B), and a pair of traverse data pits (Q.sub.D,Q.sub.E) being separated from each other at a distance allotted depending upon the recording tracks (TK). In recording or reproducing the data using a light beam, the clocks are reliably reproduced under a stable tracking condition, and traverses can be counted.

  • Patent number: 4916839
Abstract: The uppermost page of an opened volume is rubbed toward the volume's spine to buckle the uppermost page and permit air to enter a space between the buckled page and the next page. The buckled page is then released to fall back toward its initial position and form an air layer between the uppermost page and the next page. The uppermost page is attracted upward by applying a suction force and a plate is moved along a path crossing the attracted uppermost page to turn it.

  • Patent number: 4914524
Abstract: An image reading apparatus for converting an image on a document having a white/black text area into a display signal. An image reader scans pixels forming the image to produce a read signal having a level corresponding to the brightness density of each of the scanned pixels. The read image is compared with a dither matrix data signal and converted into a dither converted signal. The read image is also compared with a threshold value and converted into a binary signal having a first level representing a white pixel and a second level representing a black pixel. A discrimination circuit receives the binary signal for producing a detection signal when the white/black text area is scanned. Upon occurrence of the detection signal, the dither converted signal is mixed with the binary signal to form the display signal.

  • Patent number: 4910594
Abstract: On a transmitting side, a digital video signal comprising respective pixel samples (each of which may include eight bits) is received, and a set of elementary pixel samples determined from the received pixel samples at a predetermined rate are transmitted. The values of respective subject pixel samples other than the elementary ones are predicted, and respective predictive errors of the predicted values are detected from present values of the received pixel samples. First flags are then generated individually for each subject pixel sample whose predictive error is greater than a threshold value, and second flags are generated individually for each subject pixel sample whose predictive error is less than or equal to the threshold value. The present values of the subject pixel samples having the first flags are transmitted, and compressed data (including the second flags) is transmitted for the subject pixel samples having the second flags.

  • Patent number: 4901150
Abstract: A method and system for separating a noise signal into frequency components, then automatically performing noise reduction on the individual frequency components, and then recombining the processed frequency components to generate an output noise signal. The noise reduction parameters for each frequency component may be independently set. The output noise signal generated during performance of the invention will typically be recombined with a signal (such as a television signal) from which the input noise signal for the invention was originally extracted. In a preferred embodiment, the input noise signal supplied to the system of the invention is generated by subtracting two adjacent frames of a television signal.
