  • Patent number: 4002929
Abstract: Contactless two-line type timer circuit operable stably for a load of even a small current. In the circuit comprising substantially a full-wave rectifying circuit connected through the load to AC source, a thyristor connected across output terminals of the rectifying circuit and means for applying pulses to the gate of the thyristor after a predetermined time period, a first resistance is inserted between the cathode of the thyristor and negative side output terminal of the rectifying circuit and a second resistance is inserted between the gate of the thyristor and said negative side output terminal so as to allow the thyristor to be of a lower gate sensitivity and to be capable of keeping the gate voltage of the thyristor always larger than the cathode voltage.

  • Patent number: 4001113
Abstract: The invention is concerned with an ion exchange treating system wherein two or more exchanger or absorber vessels are connected in series, each vessel being filled with ion exchange resin leaving sufficient freeboard to allow for expansion of the medium. Each vessel is provided with an expansion chamber positioned above it and includes a conventional distribution system. The flow of liquids passing through the system is countercurrent with respect to the medium to be treated and the medium which regenerates the ion exchanger or absorber. Generally, the liquid to be treated enters the first vessel at the bottom, exiting from the top, entering the second vessel at the top and exiting therefrom at the bottom.

  • Patent number: 3999612
Abstract: An apparatus for generating high expansion foam. The disclosed apparatus includes an elongated housing having an inlet and an outlet and a perforated member extending across its free passage area. A fan is positioned in the housing and drivingly rotated by impulse nozzles supplied with pressurized liquid foam solution. The nozzles are arranged tangentially to the rotational axis of the fan, in a plane normal to the axis. A deflector is positioned around the nozzles so as to direct jet spray of the liquid foam solution partially toward the central portion of the perforated member and partly toward the outer edge portion of the perforated member to provide a relatively uniform wetting of the perforated means. The deflector further provides means for permitting all the nozzles to be directed tangentially to the rotational axis in design and to be mounted at the greatest possible distance from the shaft to provide the largest moment arm in order to increase percentage of the power available in the water supply.

  • Patent number: 3998623
Abstract: Alloys based on iron, nickel or cobalt and containing titanium carbide are produced by melting techniques. A melt containing only one of the two elements of titanium carbide is combined with the other element and caused to solidify immediately thereafter so that the titanium carbide grains are prevented from growing or forming aggregates. The combination of carbon and titanium is brought about by adding titanium to a carbon-containing, titanium free melt or adding carbon to a titanium-containing, carbon free melt. The process may be carried out in equipment for electro-slag remelting.

  • Patent number: 3998264
Abstract: For producing metallic castings an upright crucible is provided, the crucible having a compressible lining made from mineral wool and a bottom sprue opening into a mould supported within a casting box. A high frequency heating coil surrounding the crucible serves to heat up and melt a solid metallic charge so placed within the crucible that an initial gap is left between the lining and the charge, the heating coil being so designed as to effect a progressive melting of the charge from the top down such that the initially melted upper part of the charge flows downwardly through the gap and re-freezes in the lower part of the crucible so as to prevent premature discharge of any of the metal through the sprue until the entire volume of the charge has reached its molten state and attains a temperature higher than the melting temperature whereupon the entire charge is then quickly discharged through the sprue into the mould.

  • Patent number: 3994327
Abstract: A feeding device for use with tree processing machines such as delimbing, barking and slashing machines wherein feed rolls are provided on each side of a feed path for the tree trunk. The feed rolls have a conical configuration and are mounted for rotation about axes inclined to each other at an angle equal to the base angle of the rolls. The surfaces of the feed rolls facing towards each other lie parallel and have a greater radial distance to the axis of rotation at the base portion of the feed rolls than at the upper portion thereof. This arrangement establishes a greater feeding force at the upper portion of the feed rolls than at the base portion and a circumferential speed for the feed rolls which is highest at the base portion and lowest at the upper portion thereby enabling tree trunks having relatively smaller diameters to be advanced through the rolls at relatively higher speeds.
