  • Patent number: 6234654
Abstract: A height sensor has an exciting coil for generating an alternating magnetic field and a pickup coil for detecting the magnetic field. The exciting coil is fixed to a suspension arm and the pickup coil is fixed to a body so as to face each other. Distance between these coils is determined by a voltage outputted from the pickup coil, and a height of the vehicle is calculated from the distance between these coils by taking the mounting position of the pickup coil on the suspension arm into account. The height sensor is readily fixed and a detection accuracy is improved by setting the mounting position of the pickup coil in a range of {fraction (1/10)} to ½ of a length of the suspension arm from a connecting portion between the suspension arm and the body.

  • Patent number: 6236085
Abstract: A semiconductor memory device comprising a source and a drain formed in a P-type semiconductor substrate and a floating gate and a control gate constituting a two-layer gate. Electric-field moderating layer is provided in the P-type semiconductor substrate to contact with a side face of the drain. P-type region is formed in contact with channel region side surface and bottom surface of the electric-field moderating layer. P-type region lower part of the P-type region in contact with the bottom surface of the electric-field moderating layer is given a lower impurity concentration than P-type region side part formed at the channel region side of the electric-field moderating layer. By this means it is possible to increase the writing speed of the semiconductor memory device while suppressing delay in the switching speed during reading operation.

  • Patent number: 6233229
Abstract: A TDMA cellular radio system and a method of allocating available frequency bands to different cells in a TDMA cellular radio system wherein at least some of the receivers within the system use interference cancellation methods which cancel the effects of co-channel interference in a desired signal. To enable efficient use of interference cancellation and the resulting capacity increase in the system, the frequency bands available for the cellular radio system are allocated to different cells so that groups of adjacent service areas are formed in the system. Each group uses the same frequency band within the service areas, whereby at least one co-channel signal interfering with the desired signal is significantly stronger than other co-channel interfering signals.

  • Patent number: 6231798
Abstract: There is provided a process for producing a multi-layer molded product having a plurality of thermoplastic resin layers. This process provides for (i) a step of supplying first and second molten thermoplastic resins each through first and second resin supplying gates which are temperature-controllable independently of each other, to between female and male molds kept in an open state with a time difference being provided between supply starts of the first and second resins, and (ii) a step of closing the female and male molds after completion of supply of the first and second resins. The process enables production of high-quality multi-layer molded products having a plurality of resin layers with good repeatability under relatively low resin supply pressure and by single mold closing. Further, high-quality multi-layer molded products can readily be produced without restrictions on materials used.

  • Patent number: 6232728
Abstract: In a discharge lamp apparatus for a vehicle, it is determined that a grounded condition is present when a lamp voltage is less than a predetermined voltage and a lamp current is less than a predetermined current. Electric power supply to the lamp is stopped temporarily in response to the determination of the grounded condition, and then the lighting operation is restarted again. If the grounded condition is determined again, the above operation is repeated. If this repetition continues for a predetermined period, the lighting operation is disabled continuously. In controlling the lamp, a voltage of a battery is boosted by a voltage booster transformer, which is turned on and off by a MOS transistor so that electric power supplied to the lamp is duty-controlled. An upper limit is set to the duty ratio, and the upper limit is increased as the lamp current decreases, so that the lighting characteristics of the lamp is improved.

  • Patent number: 6230576
Abstract: A single actuator such as an electric motor is used to actuate a shift range changing mechanism of an automatic transmission. The motor has a plurality of torque generating units each of which is capable of generating a torque sufficient to effect any shift range changes of the shift range changing mechanism. All of the torque generating units are driven electrically normally in response to a shift range change command. Operation of each torque generating unit is monitored separately from each other. When one of the torque generating units fails in operation, the torque generating unit in failure is not driven but the other torque generating units are driven to effect a shift range change. The failure of the torque generating units is indicated on an indicator in a vehicle. The motor may be a brushless type or a reluctance type.
