  • Patent number: 5787021
Abstract: An information system for production control wherein measured data from many test facilities is controlled, stored, and, if necessary, processed in a central data base. Via two-way data links, various data users can access the stored data and use this data for their own purposes. Thus it is possible, for example, to retrieve production figures of individual products or entire product ranges, complied statistics, calculate costs, determine yields, and the like. Access by the individual data users to the data base takes place via a terminal or a personal computer, with which nearly every work place is equipped and which are electronically interconnected via a data network for the exchange of data.

  • Patent number: 5783614
Abstract: Properly-coated pigment particles for use in an electrophoretic display include pigment particles having a pre-determined density and application of a polymeric coating to the pigment particles, wherein the coating comprises a near fluoropolymer, and wherein the density of the fluoropolymer is substantially the same as the density of the pigment particles. When a polymeric coating is applied having a density that is substantially the same as the density of the pigment particles, even though the particles comprise a distribution of particle sizes, the density of the pigment particles is not significantly altered. In a preferred embodiment, the pigment particle comprises a diarylide yellow pigment, having a density of 1.43 g/ml, coated with a polymer made from the monomer 2,3,4,5,6-Pentafluorostyrene, having a density of 1.41 g/ml.

  • Patent number: 5782852
Abstract: An apparatus for implementing a skin incision has an incision blade having at least three facets and at least one sharpened apex. Each of the facets narrows down to one of the apexes. A housing having an exterior surface adapted to be placed flush against the skin and an elongated slot located on the exterior of the surface housing the incision blade. A blade pivoting mechanism located in the housing guides the incision blade through the slot. The blade pivoting mechanism has a first end and second end wherein the first end is pivotally coupled to the housing and the second end supports the incision blade. An actuatable depressing mechanism, located within the housing means, engages and holds the blade pivoting mechanism in a set position, preventing the pivotal movement of the blade pivoting mechanism within the housing.

  • Patent number: 5781316
Abstract: A semi-transparent holographic transfer foil film for application to a substrate such as a security device. The film is comprised of a thermally stable carrier for supporting multiple layers of thermoplastic or thermoset coatings, wherein a heat sensitive release layer is applied to the carrier to enable separation of the carrier from the multiple layers of coatings under appropriate circumstances. A wear-resistant transparent top coat is applied over the release layer to act as an outer surface for the holographic film, the top coat may be treated or cured so as to increase its tenacity. An embossable coating is applied over the top coat, and is adapted to retain the impression of a holographically embossed image. A semi-transparent reflective layer of zinc sulfide is applied over the embossable coating for reflecting the holographically embossed image while at the same time enabling indicia found on a substrate or document to which the film will be applied to be viewed.

  • Patent number: 5777915
Abstract: A multiplier for real or complex numbers is split at each data input into two equally large digit ranges to determine partial products in separate subfields. Within a rectangular partial-product field, the subfields are rearranged according to the real or complex arithmetic operation to be performed, the rearrangement being effected by assigning basic weights to the individual subfields. By means of an adding arrangement, the partial products of the individuals subfields are added in a positionally correct manner to form the digits of a real or complex output number.

  • Patent number: 5769523
Abstract: An apparatus and associated method for projecting a light pattern onto a target object, wherein the light pattern has a generally uniform brightness with well defined boarders. The apparatus includes a fiber optic conduit that emits a beam of light along an optical path. Light emitted from a fiber optic conduit typically contains a central region of a predetermined brightness and a peripheral region, created by light interference patterns, where the light is less bright. A first adjustable optical diaphragm is disposed along the optical path proximate the fiber optic conduit. By selectively varying to aperture of the first optical diaphragm, the diameter of the beam of light propagated along the optical path can be controlled. A second adjustable optical diaphragm is disposed along the optical path a predetermined distance away from the first optical diaphragm.

  • Patent number: 5765311
Abstract: The present invention involves a finger door guard device and method for covering the gap between an open door and its frame. The guard protects children or others from getting their fingers pinched by this gap when the door is moved from an open to a closed position. The guard is comprised of an elongated member having two edges, one of which is pivotally attached to the door frame, and the other of which is free-standing and rests against the surface of the door. The bottom surface of the guard is spring biased to the door frame so that the finger guard is biased to move with the door as it opens and closes. The method involves pivotally attaching a member to a door frame and biasing the surface of the member toward the frame.

  • Patent number: 5767739
Abstract: Digital demodulator for a quadrature-modulated signal (sq) which transmits a combination signal by amplitude and phase modulation. A quadrature-signal source provides a digitized in-phase component (I) and a digitized quadrature component (Q) of low frequency. A resolver converts the two components (I,Q) into a magnitude signal (b) and a first phase signal (p1). A first feedback control loop and a second feedback control loop that maintains the slope (mp) of the first phase signal (p1) at the zero value and the time average (pm1) at the zero phase position, whereby a third phase signal (p3) is formed. From the resulting signals (b, p3, p3') a decoder forms at least one of the required components (R,L,P).

  • Patent number: 5763024
Abstract: A metalized polyester film for application to a substrate to be used as a trim component for automobiles and the like. The film is comprised of a thermally stable extensible polyester carrier for supporting multiple layers of metallic and thermoplastic coatings. Prior to application of a metallic coating, the film is cleaned by means of exposure to an inert gas such as argon in order to remove moisture and other impurities. A layer of aluminum or other metal is then deposited on the carrier film thereby forming a superior bond with the cleaned surface. A tie coat primer is applied over the aluminum which is followed by an adhesive. The metalized film is adhesively applied to a formable substrate which is configured into an end component part by means of vacuum forming or pressure forming. The formed laminated substrate is next attached to a piece of support plastic, wherein the composite part can be applied as trim. A protective lacquer coat is applied to the polyester film as a final step.

  • Patent number: 5757488
Abstract: The present invention is a method for calibrating power spectral data obtained with an interferometer based Fourier transform spectrometer which utilizes a laser based coherent radiant source as the metrology source. A radiant beam of predetermined wavelength from a neon lamp based noncoherent radiant source is directed in parallel with a radiant beam from the laser source into the interferometer to create a laser based interference pattern and a neon lamp based interference pattern. Distinct fringe counts are derived from the laser based interference pattern and the neon lamp based interference pattern. The wavelength of the laser source is determined based on a correlation between the known wavelength of the neon lamp based interference pattern and the determined fringe counts. The scale of the power spectral data is calibrated based on the determined wavelength of the laser source.
