  • Patent number: 5811721
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically transferring a vertically standing ammunition component from a delivery opening in a carriage mounted magazine to a flick rammer incorporated in a gun elevation system is provided. In the method, a loading pendulum is positioned immediately outside the delivery opening of the magazine and parallel to the ammunition component. The ammunition component is then ejected from the magazine onto the loading pendulum without changing the vertical orientation of the ammunition component. The ammunition component is then locked in the loading pendulum and the loading pendulum is raised about a first axle to a substantially horizontal position. An outer cradle, in which the loading pendulum is suspended, is then lowered about a second axle coinciding with the trunnion center of the gun to an angle which coincides with the elevation of the gun and to a position above the flick rammer such that the ammunition component is immediate above the flick rammer.

  • Patent number: 5812982
Abstract: Digital data divided into blocks each having a predetermined number of samples is transformed into data on a frequency axis for each block to generate coefficient data for each frequency. Coefficient data of a predetermined number of blocks are stored in a buffer. From the buffer, coefficient data are inputted to a floating-point transforming circuit for each one block. The coefficient data are divided into a plurality of sub-bands, each sub-band including one or a plurality of coefficient data. The coefficient data are floating-point transformed for each sub-band and transformed into one sub-band common characteristic data which is common to the coefficient data included in each sub-band and mantissa data of the number equal to the number of coefficient data included in each sub-band. The sub-band common characteristic data and the mantissa data are stored in a memory. Sub-band common characteristic data of a predetermined number of blocks are read from the memory for each sub-band.

  • Patent number: 5812697
Abstract: A method of recognizing handwritten characters. A recognition dictionary is prepared including a plurality of characters and corresponding character clusters. A weighting dictionary is prepared including weighting clusters and corresponding object characters. All segmentation position candidates are selected by segmenting handwritten character ink data. Each of the position candidates is separated in a direction corresponding to a direction in which the handwritten character ink data is inputted from a leading position of the ink data and satisfying a predetermined condition. A character candidate is selected corresponding to each segment of the ink data segmented at the segmentation position candidates by referring to the recognition dictionary and calculating a distance value between each of the segments of the ink data and a selected one of the character clusters.

Abstract: An apparatus for a controlled delivery of a liquid preparation from a cylindrical liquid container, which has a liquid outlet at its front end and a movable wall, which acts like a piston at its rear end is provided. The driving force acting on the movable wall for expelling the liquid from the container is generated by means of a piston rod in connection with a piston, which by the action of the atmospheric pressure is urged into a space where a vacuum has been established. The amount delivered can be varied according to different modes by providing an auxiliary force which acts on the piston during the initial stage of its movement into the vacuum space.

  • Patent number: 5806360
Abstract: A rolling mill comprising at least two work rolls supported by chocks (4, 40) mounted so as to slide, with clearance, between two fixed guide faces (13a, 13b). Each chock (4, 40) is thrust laterally against the guide faces (13a, 13b) in order to take up the clearance when in service. Each chock (4, 40) is surrounded by two intermediate pieces (6a, 6b) mounted so as to slide without clearance along the corresponding guide faces (13a, 13b). These intermediate pieces are rigidly locked vertically with the chock (4) so as to move with it. Lateral thrustors (7) are interposed between at least one side of each chock (4) and the facing intermediate piece (6b) in order to push the chock back against the other intermediate piece (6a) and corresponding guide face (13a). The two guide faces (13a, 13'a) against which the two chocks (4, 4') of a roll (2) are pressed define a reference plane (P1) for the positioning of the axis of the roll (2) with the possibility of sliding parallel to that plane (P1).

  • Patent number: 5806520
Abstract: A method for the in vivo evaluation and characterization of the mechanical or architectural properties of bones relies on the propagation of an ultrasound wave through the bone and subsequently studying the interaction of this wave with the bone. The bone is scanned using an ultrasound beam obtained from focused transducers. Then, the signals transmitted through the bone and/or reflected by the faces of the bone and/or scattered by the internal structures of the bone are collected. The signals obtained are stored in memory. The signals thus stored are processed for measuring: the propagation velocity of the ultrasound beam in the bone; the thickness of the bone; the transmission attenuation coefficient of the ultrasound beam; and the reflection parameters for estimating the backscatter and attenuation coefficients.
