  • Patent number: 4937482
Abstract: An operating voltage change and motor rotation reversal device for a dynamoelectric machine in the form of an induction motor having simplified structure and operational features. For single phase operation, a pre-configured jumper plug interconnects a multi-receptacle connector socket mounted to a terminal board for the motor to complete one of four unique circuit combination. For three phase applications, a different and separate jumper plug is used to provide two different mating relationships with the connector socket so as to provide two unique circuit combinations. Preferably, the terminal board is physically mounted within the motor housing so that when the single phase or three phase plug is mated with the connector socket, a vertically extending handle of the plug is positioned adjacent to an overlying motor housing cover plate having prearranged openings in it. The cover plate has functional information imprints adjacent the openings.

  • Patent number: 4934126
Abstract: A container for the components of an unassembled ceiling fan includes a first casing of expanded polystyrene foam. The first casing includes at least one internal recess shaped to receive a first component of the ceiling fan to protect it from damage during shipping. A second casing of expanded polystyrene foam includes at least one internal recess shaped to receive at least a second component of the ceiling fan to protect it from damage during shipping. The first and second casings have comparable cross-sectional areas and include structure integral therewith for interlocking the casings to restrict relative movement of the casings. At least the first casing provides sufficient protection to its contents to protect them from damage when the first casing is shipped without the second casing. • Patent number: 4930641
Abstract: A bladed tool holder has vertical, elongated blocks spaced laterally from one another far enough to accept between them a blade of a tool to be held. The blocks have facing surfaces one of which has a sloping seat, opening toward the facing surface of the other, the seat sloping away from the other surface in a vertically upward direction at an angle preferably between 12 and 15 degrees. A ball, preferably of matte finished polypropylene, of a diamter to permit the ball to move freely in the seat but to project from the seat at the lower end of the seat, is mounted in the seat. In a holder for chisels and the like, in which the narrow side edges of the chisel are held between the ball and the facing surface, the ball is caged in the seat to preclude its falling out. A cap, bridging the space between successive blocks on the chisel holder, serves several functions, including protecting the sharp edge of the chisel from damage and protecting the user from injury.

  • Patent number: 4931682
Abstract: A dynamoelectric machine includes a stator assembly and a rotor assembly, including a rotatable shaft ad a rotor affixed to and rotatable with the shaft. The stator and rotor assemblies are assembled into a motor and the motor has the stator and rotor insulated from electrical contact with other objects. Because of its construction and design, the motor does not require electrical grounding prior to use so that it is not a hazard to persons coming into contact with it in its application.

  • Patent number: 4929219
Abstract: A belt driven system (1) employs a dynamoelectric machine (11) to rotate a pulley (7) on which is positioned a drive belt (13). An improvement is a belt locator (19) for locating the belt on the pulley. The locator is effective to properly locate the belt on the pulley if it is initially mis-installed with respect to the pulley, and maintains the belt position if the belt begins to slip off the pulley during operation of the system.

  • Patent number: 4922833
Abstract: An end structure for a railway car, and more particularly a covered hopper railway car, is disclosed which has side sill extensions extending diagonally inwardly from the ends of the side sills to the center stub sill for transmitting substantially all of the longitudinal, horizontal loads between the center stub sill and the side sills. A generally vertically extending truss is provided between the center stub sill and the end of the car above the center stub sill so as to withstand overturning moments and vertical loads between the end of the car and the center stub sill. The side sill extensions are tapered in heightwise and widthwise relation so as to minimize weight of these members. The truss includes outer vertical members which are curved so as to blend with the side sheets of the car body thereby to optimize load transfer. Inner truss members are of a convenient rectangular cross section so as to facilitate fabrication.

  • Patent number: 4922151
Abstract: A two point mounting assembly for mounting a dynamoelectric machine or motor in a domestic appliance, for example, a washing machine is disclosed as including a motor having front and rear endshields. The front endshield of the motor, through which a motor shaft extends, has mounting ears integrally formed with it. A mounting plate is provided for the washing machine. The plate has a transmission for transmitting power from the motor to a tub and agitator of the washer. The mounting plate includes a yoke sized to support the motor along an endshield ear and yoke arm abutment. The yoke arms have elongated slots formed in them. Bolts having at least partially squared shafts, for attaching the motor to the plate, aid in limiting rotation of the motor after installation. The transmission has a corresponding shaft having a drive pulley mounted to it. The motor shaft has a drive pulley on it.

  • Patent number: 4922066
Abstract: A switch assembly for use with a centrifugal actuator in the start winding circuit of a dynamoelectric machine (1). The switch has a pair of electrical contacts (29, 33) contained in a pliable, bellows-like enclosure (37) for protection from foreign matter. The assembly includes a terminal board (19) having an electrically conductive post (28) mounted thereon and comprising one side of the switch. A second contact, comprising the other side of the switch, is directly above the first and is surrounded by an electrically conductive cap (32). The cap is affixed between the ends of an electrically conductive, cantilevered switch arm (16) which is biased against a vertically rigid, horizontally adjustable stop (45). The stop has one end rigidly mounted to the terminal board and its other end above and in contact with the switch arm where the cap is affixed to the arm. The bias is caused by the switch arm support structure at the fixed end being attached to the terminal board at an angle.

  • Patent number: 4920608
Abstract: A portable hand held vacuum cleaner is disclosed as having a housing with a handle to lift and operate the vacuum cleaner, and a nozzle/debris container releasably locked to the housing. The housing contains a motor driven blower that draws air and debris (wet or dry) into the nozzle/debris container for depositing the debris therein, while allowing air to be exhausted through the blower and then through the housing to atmosphere. The blower is constructed with first and second jointly rotatable elements having a series of circumferentially spaced blower exhaust passageways and a transversely extending blower passageway adjacent the nozzle/debris container, for increased efficiency. A combined filter and seal is positioned in sealing engagement between the housing and the nozzle/debris container while affording filtering of debris from air between the nozzle/debris container and the blower in the housing.
