  • Patent number: 4977845
Abstract: An improved boat construction is disclosed in which a boat, having the typical elongated hull, bow and stern, has a bottom configured as a hydroplane including a transverse step spaced from the bow and stern. A well is provided in the boat bottom and extends from at least the transverse step through the boat stern and receives a powered impeller for engaging and pushing water backwards in a confined flow path within and beyond the well so as to thrust the boat forward. Vertical deflectors are positioned rearwardly of the powered impeller and are attached to the boat in the vicinity of the boat stern for engaging the backwardly moving water in the confined flow path so as to increase or decrease the size of the confined flow path of backwardly moving water emanating from the powered impeller. Immediately forward of the powered impeller in the well is a horizontal deflector which directs more or less water to the powered impeller.

  • Patent number: 4977344
Abstract: A rotor assembly for an electric motor includes a plurality of laminations disposed in a stack, a tension rod extending axially through the rotor lamination stack, and end clamps disposed at each end of the rotor lamiantion stack and secured to the tension rod for compressing the stack to hold the laminations of the stack fixedly in position by compression. A method of stamping rotor and stator laminations for a doubly salient electric motor from a single piece of metal includes the steps of stamping a rotor lamination out of the piece of metal, and stamping the stator lamination out of the piece of metal offset from the stamping of the rotor lamination so that a tooth of the rotor lamiantion stamping is taken from the gap between two teeth of the stator lamination stamping. The centroids of the rotor and stator laminations in their stamped locations in the piece of metal are offset from one another.

  • Patent number: 4974746
Abstract: A waste separation container for selectively separating and storing waste material includes a receptacle with an upper edge with slits in its opening upwardly to receive and hold a plurality of thin plastic bags in an open position. The slits are preferably defined by flexible lobes, contiguous one another and extending along the upper edge of the receptacle. Preferably, a closure for the receptacle is provided, that has specifically designated through apertures that allow for discernable placement of recyclable material in a correspondingly appropriate compartment or bag. The provision of strips of flexible material with lobes defining between them bag-retaining slits, either to be mounted on existing containers, on partitions for existing containers or holders to be placed in existing containers permits retrofitting of existing waste receptacles to accomplish the object of making easy the segregation of waste as it is generated.

  • Patent number: 4973876
Abstract: An ultrasonic power supply for driving a piezoelectric transducer at its parallel resonant frequency includes a clamped-mode resonant converter for converting direct current to alternating current and a demodulator, a loop filter and a voltage controlled oscillator in a phase locked loop configuration. The power supply also includes a control circuit for adjustably setting and controlling the amplitude of vibration of the transducer, and providing during start-up a ramp start. The power supply, further, includes a control circuit for limiting the maximum permissible current flow to the transducer and the reverse current flow from the transducer resulting from stored mechanical energy. Both control circuits provide feedback signals which control the pulse width modulated operation of the clamped-mode resonant converter and thereby control the voltage amplitude of the alternating current output from the converter.

  • Patent number: 4964330
Abstract: An oil filter accessory is disclosed to facilitate installation and/or removal of an oil filter from an automobile engine or the like. The oil filter accessory includes a housing having at least one open adapted to fit over canister-type oil filter. The housing is capable of being locked relative to the oil filter to secure the housing against the rotation relative to the oil filter. The locking may be accomplished by a suitable circumferential clamp, pivoting locking lever(s), internal locking surfaces or other equivalent structure to prevent rotation of the housing relative to the oil filter. Suitably configured and dimensioned hand wrenching elements are operably associated with the housing to enable a user to physically grip and rotate the oil filter in either direction for tightening or loosening same relative to the automobile engine or the like.

  • Patent number: 4963853
Abstract: A communication system with six simultaneous independent inbound channels is disclosed which uses the voltage waveform of an electricity distribution network as a carrier. The manner in which the inbound channels are identified as well as how various sets of such independent channels can be found is disclosed. Identification of sets or groups of such independent channels involves identifying all potential channels and calculating the detection algorithm for each. Pure pulse patterns for binary "1"s for each channel are then multiplied by the detection algorithms for every channel to generate a matrix whose elements include the application of all the detection algorithms to all the aforementioned pulse patterns. Examination of qualifying elements of the matrix allow the identification of sets of mutually non-interfering channels.

  • Patent number: 4959895
Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating monofilaments, such as glass or carbon monofilaments, forming a strand, is achieved by feeding the strand in a curved path over and in forced contact with a plurality of rods, each being subjected to vibrations. The vibrations, applied transverse to the axis of the strand, provide intermittent localized contact between the filaments and the rod surface, hence preventing high tensile and shear forces which cause breakage of the delicate filaments. In one embodiment, the rods comprise a plurality of resonators dimensioned to be resonant along their longitudinal axis for a predetermined frequency of vibration. The resonators are energized with vibrations from a single resonator dimensioned to operate as a half wavelength resonator. The resonators are provided with a wear resistant, smooth surface coating at the area of contact with the filaments.
