  • Patent number: 5055151
Abstract: A porous, filamentary mat has a plurality of layers that are in intimate face-to-face relation and that have portions of the confronting faces thereof bonded together to enable those layers to constitute a unitary, porous, filamentary mat. Each of the layers has a plurality of elongated filaments of thermoplastic material; and each of those filaments is arranged in an essentially horizontal attitude and is longer than the mat. Each of those filaments has a number of bends therein which cause portions of each filament to cross and to engage other portions of that filament; and those bends also cause portions of each filament to cross and to engage portions of one or more adjacent filaments.

  • Patent number: 5055332
Abstract: An absorbent pad for meat and poultry products and the like and a method for constructing same is disclosed. The absorbent pad includes upper and lower plastic film layers, at least one of which is perforated, and an intermediate absorbent layer disposed between the layers. The intermediate absorbent layer includes a series of juxtaposed and overlapping absorbent material fibers with superabsorbent granules dispersed throughout the absorbent layer and supported by the absorbent material fibers within interstices thereof. The superabsorbent granules are capable of absorbing and suspending liquids therein while being physically retained in place and supported by absorbent material fibers of one or several types, even when the absorbent material fibers have liquid therein. The superabsorbent granules are fixed and held in place by structurally interacting absorbent material fibers and/or by attachment to one or more of the types of absorbent material fibers constituting the absorbent layer.

  • Patent number: 5055850
Abstract: A waveform generator (12') is responsive to a reference clock signal input for producing an output waveform which is a linear FM waveform. A reference clock signal is supplied to the generator which performs a double integration to obtain the phase of the output signal. The phase resulting from the double integration is used to obtain the sine of the phase using a lookup table. The sine of the phase is input to digital-to-analogue (D/A) converter, and the output from the D/A converter is filtered using a bandwidth matched to the bandwidth of the transmitted signal. The generator is useful in radar systems for area mapping and target identification.

  • Patent number: 5052137
Abstract: A mounting for a generally vertical signboard includes clips which coact with the signboard to removably secure at least two sizes of indicia to the signboard. The signboard includes ribs which coact with both the indicia and the clips, allowing the indicia to be mounted to the signboard in two modes. The signboard is held vertical by supports. Brackets interact with the supports to enable the positioning of the signboard between a floor and a ceiling. The supports rotate and slide relative to the floor brackets so that the signboard may be tilted from the vertical to facilitate changing of the message displayed on the signboard.

  • Patent number: 5053772
Abstract: A method of providing motion compensation (i.e. phase, doppler frequency, and range closure correction) for wide band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) or classification/identification radar modes is disclosed. An improved radar system employing the method is also disclosed. The method involves dividing the motion compensation into both a focusing function and a range closure function. Either or both these functions is achieved by modifying the transmitted signal. For stretch waveform processing systems, the method involves generating both the transmitted and reference signals. The radar system includes a waveform generator capable of implementing the various motion compensation techinques when the transmitted waveform is a linear FM waveform.

  • Patent number: 5050731
Abstract: A packaging system for a pre-assembled barbeque grill having a grill housing that is collapsed relative to spaced legs, includes a shipping carton surrounding the collapsed grill housing and associated leg supports. Within the carton, end pads are positioned at opposite ends of the leg supports between the leg supports and the carton. The end pads include associated cushion elements, integral with or separate from the end pads, which extend both longitudinally and laterally beyond the leg supports. The cushioned elements are constructed to absorb shock in all directions when the carton is moved, tipped over or dropped. The end pads include associated partitions and grill component holding areas for separating and holding various grill components used with the pre-assembled barbeque grill.

  • Patent number: 5050577
Abstract: A gas barbeque grill is constructed in a pre-assembled condition and positioned in a shipping carton. A liquid propane (LP) tank is also positioned in the shipping carton at one end. Following purchase, the tank is removed from the shipping carton, without removing the grill, for filling prior to arrival at the user's home. The pre-assembled grill is thereafter removed from the shipping carton for set-up at the user's home including attachment of the filled tank to the grill for immediate operation of the grill, after set-up of same. The grill is removed from the shipping carton by placing spaced leg supports for the grill on a supporting surface and lifting the shipping carton up and away from the grill. Leg supports preferably constitute four spaced leg supports arranged in a rectangular pattern for supporting the grill. The grill is pivotally mounted proximate an upper end of two spaced leg supports along one side of and within the rectangular pattern of four spaced leg supports.

  • Patent number: 5050549
Abstract: A method for cleaning and protecting a diesel cooling system from corrosion and the effects of the corrosive by-products wherein a filter is used to feed a dissolvable pellet comprising dissolvable cleaning agents and corrosion inhibiting agents into the cooling system. The cleaner consists of chelating agents, surfactants, and anti-foaming agents. The filter is removably inserted in the cooling system, and the cleaners and inhibitors dissolve in the coolant to clean and protectively coat the cooling system while the engine is operating. The removed impurities are captured by the filter and the filter is replaced within a few weeks with a standard filter containing inhibiting agents. The method thus does not require draining the cooling system to clean the cooling system.
