  • Patent number: 5042743
Abstract: Apparatus (10) for simultaneously engaging a multiplicity of selected targets (V1-V7) to launch one or more missiles (T) at each target and acquire, track, and guide each missile to its respective target. A field of view (FOV) is scanned to detect one or more targets therewithin. A target selection system (34) is used to designate various of the targets at which to launch missiles. A plurality of missiles are then launched, and directed to each selected target. A plurality of sensors (58) detect radiation from each missile as it travels toward its respective target. An acquisition and tracking system (74) is used to track each missile and its target. The system includes a processor (80) for determining the position of each missile relative to its respective target, and a control module (82) responsive to the processor for generating and transmitting guidance signals to each missile to guide it to its target.

  • Patent number: 5037208
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cleaning printed electrical circuit boards having surface mount components by ultrasonic energy in the frequency range between 300 kHz and 1.0 MHz. The ultrasonic energy is produced by an array of piezoelectric wafers mounted to the inside surface of an immersible transducer assembly which, in turn, is disposed in a tank accommodating a bath of cleaning liquid. The ultrasonic energy provided by the transducer assembly and the circuit board to be cleaned are disposed to cause the ultrasonic wave beam to be incident upon a board to be cleaned at an angle of 90.+-.60 degrees relative to the surface plane of the board. This arrangement will remove solder flux residue and other contaminants from spaces ranging from 0.001 to 0.010 inch present underneath a surface mount component.

  • Patent number: 5036324
Abstract: A method of signal processing for use in high duty factor radars for detecting targets at ranges both shorter and longer than a minimum range defined by a transmitted pulse having a defined pulse length. A coded pulse coherent array waveform is transmitted and a return signal which is a waveform reflected off a target is received. The reflected waveform is sampled and time shifted by adding data to its beginning and end. The vector is then processed (pulse compressed) to obtain target information. Target information can now be obtained which is normally in a "blind zone", because the distance of the target from the radar is such that it appears during an interval when sampling is not done because of waveform transmission.

  • Patent number: 5033939
Abstract: Shaped parts are formed from a powder having the desired chemistry of the finished part by mixing the powder with a thermosetting condensation resin that acts as a binder. The resin may be partially catalyzed, or additives or surfactants added to improve rheology, mixing properties, or processing time. Upon heating, the inherently low viscosity mixture will solidify without pressure being applied to it. A rigid form is produced which is capable of being ejected from a mold. Pre-sintered shapes or parts are made by injection molding, by using semi-permanent tooling, or by prototyping. Binder removal is accomplished by thermal means and without a separate debinding step, despite the known heat resistance of thermosetting resins. Removal is due to the film forming characteristic of the binder leaving open the part's pores, by providing oxidizing conditions within the part's pores as the part is heated, and by insuring that the evolving resin vapor diffuses through the pores by heating the part in a vacuum.

  • Patent number: 5034642
Abstract: A permanent magnet rotor for an electric motor includes longitudinally extending main rotor field and sensor field sections, the sensor field section being substantially shorter than the main rotor field section and being disposed at one end thereof. The sensor field section is magnetized in circumferentially disposed parallel strips of alternating magnetic polarity around the rotor. The main rotor field section has longitudinally extending strips of alternating magnetic polarity which are skewed in a predetermined pattern. The predetermined pattern includes a first portion in which each longitudinally extending strip runs generally at a first predetermined non-zero angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the rotor, a second portion in which each longitudinally extending strip runs generally at a second predetermined non-zero angle with respect that axis, and a third portion in which each longitudinally extending strip runs generally at the first predetermined non-zero angle with respect to the axis.
