  • Patent number: 5465350
Abstract: A data management method and apparatus used for a filing system in which management data is copied from an optical disk to a hard disk to manage image data stored in the optical disk. Hereupon, the optical disk has a storage capacity larger than that of the hard disk, but has an access time longer than that of the hard disk. Whenever new image data is recorded on the optical disk, new management data corresponding to the new image data is recorded on the hard disk, accordingly. The new image data is not copied from the hard disk to the optical disk until the management data on the hard disk satisfies a predetermined condition. That is, the new image data is not copied whenever the optical disk is ejected from an optical disk storage in the filing system. The new image data is to be recorded on the optical disk for many times. In addition, there occurs a case where it is necessary to use the optical disk for another filing system before all the image data is recorded thereon.

  • Patent number: 5463542
Abstract: There is provided a circuit for achieving a serial communication at the standard voltage defined in the RS-232 interface communication standard when the signal processing voltage of the host side circuit is 5 V and 3 V, for example, in which, when the DC input voltage V.sub.in of the host side circuit is changed, this voltage level is detected to generate a stepped-up voltage having an appropriate step-up ratio by step-up circuits. This voltage level is detected to, regardless of the change of the power supply voltage, obtain the positive and negative DC output voltages Vdd, Vss matching with the RS-232 interface communication standard. To be specific, with the 5 V operation, a double stepped-up voltage within the DC/DC converter circuit and, during the 3 V operation, a three times stepped-up voltage are selectively generated to obtain the DC output voltage.

  • Patent number: 5456560
Abstract: The present invention relates to a dockside crane for moving cargo between a dock and a water-borne vessel. The crane has an elongated girder extending horizontally over the dock and the vessel. The crane can vertically raise and lower the girder to change its elevation, so as to minimize distance and time travel for the cargo. A trolley moves horizontally on the girder, and has a cargo engaging device which is lowered to and raised from cargo locations on the dock and vessel. The cargo engaging device can be raised sufficiently adjacent to the trolley, and may be held tightly thereagainst, to permit large horizontal accelerations and velocities with virtually no attendant sway of the trolley or cargo. Advantageously, an operator cab is provided which moves independently of the trolley, so that the operator can view the load from a variety of angles throughout the cargo moving process.

  • Patent number: 5456253
Abstract: A disposable cuvette through which to pass pulsatile flowing blood. The cuvette has a conduit with two opposed walls having a predetermined separation therebetween that varies with each pulse of the flowing blood. A sealed air pocket damps the variation of the predetermined separation. The conduit is comprised of materials which permit passage therethrough of wavelengths of selected electromagnetic radiation. The radiation is emitted from a photoemitter which, and after passing through the cuvette, is detected by a photodetector. The quantities of detected radiation are operated on by a computer which uses a spectrophotometry technique to derive therefrom a blood constituent concentration value. Preferably, both cuvette and spectrophotometry technique are used during hemodialysis to derive changes in the hematocrit value of the blood of a dialyzed patient, thereby to deduce therefrom changes in the blood volume of the patient during dialysis.

  • Patent number: 5455896
Abstract: A three-dimensional geometry processing system generates an intersection curve between two surfaces, an intersection point between a surface and a curve, an intersection point between three surfaces, and a parameter of a surface at a given point. In this system, candidate points for endpoints of an intersection curve between surfaces are generated and stored in a table, a judgment is made whether or not a tracing of intersection from one of the candidate points in the table can be performed, and, if it is judged that the tracing can be performed, a direction in which the tracing is performed is determined. Convergence calculations are performed so that a leading point of a tracing vector lies on both the two surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5449237
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved bearing assembly comprising; an external member which forms a projected/recessed teeth domain on own external circumferential surface in order to make up a pulser portion and also forms a bearing raceway surface on own internal circumferential surface; an internal member which forms the other bearing track surface on own external circumferential surface; and a plurality of rolling elements which are individually disposed between respective raceway surfaces of the external and internal members. The bearing assembly is characterized in that phosphotized film is initially formed on the surface of the projected/recessed teeth domain and then either synthetic-resinous film or molybdenum film is superposed on the phosphate film coated on the projected/recessed teeth domain. By virtue of the coating of said films, the projected/recessed teeth domain for maing up the pulser portion is further coated with synthetic-resinous film by way of superposing on the phosphate film.
