  • Patent number: 7520341
Abstract: A drill housing rotatably supports a shaft having an internal cavity for receiving a drilling device, such as a drill steel, bolt driver, and rock anchor adaptor. The upper end of the housing is closed by a cover plate and a flinger having an opening for receiving pressurized fluid and a passageway for transporting the pressurized fluid into the shaft. The pressurized fluid axially displaces a collet mounted within the shaft against the bias of a spring to frictionally engage the drilling device to transmit rotation thereto.

  • Patent number: 7337720
Abstract: A dual-doctor blade assembly that can accurately meter ink delivery to the anilox cells on the anilox roll of a flexographic printing system. The system utilizes a retractable dual-blade configuration in conjunction with an ink chamber and a gap between the lower doctor blade and the anilox roll. The entire configuration can be adjusted for anilox rolls of various diameters. The upper blade in this system contacts the anilox roll at a point after its rotation through the application tray and scrapes ink from the surface of the anilox roll directly into the ink chamber. As the chamber fills with ink, the hydraulic pressure created by the spinning of the anilox roll increases to a point where the anilox cells are filled to the appropriate volume. The gap created between the lower doctor blade and the anilox roll serves two functions.

  • Patent number: 6724791
Abstract: A semiconductor laser diode for transmitting optical signals in a telecommunications network is housed within a module supported adjacent to a thermoelectric cooling element that is mounted in thermally conductive contact with a heat sink. The cooling element is positioned externally on the surface of the module. The adjacent surface areas of the module and the cooling element are brought into thermal conductivity by a thermally conductive filler occupying the space between the module and the cooling element. The filler conforms to the configuration of the adjacent surfaces of the module and the cooling element to increase the thermal conductivity therebetween for maximum efficiency in the transfer of heat from the laser diode through the module to the cooling element and the heat sink.

  • Patent number: 6717282
Abstract: A turboshaft or shafted engine, as used in helicopter, aircraft, locomotive, marine engines, and the like, is tested in accordance with a routine maintenance schedule. The turboshaft is drivingly connected to a motor/generator set that also performs the operation of a dynamometer in load testing the turboshaft. The generator operates as a motor to start the turboshaft engine and conduct the diagnostic testing. The output from the turboshaft under test is used as a source of electrical power as a by-product of the diagnostic testing. The mechanical energy produced by the turboshaft is transferred by a power transfer mechanism to the generator. The generator converts the mechanical energy to electricity. As a dynamometer, the generator measures the electricity produced to obtain a measure of the output power of the engine under test.

  • Patent number: 6588826
Abstract: A hard cover is easily installed, removed, replaced, and inspected on the open bed of a pickup truck. The hard cover is a unitary thermoformed sheet material mounted on a rail frame assembly secured to side walls of the truck bed. The hard cover is hingedly connected by a bar fastened to the cover and extending into a slot of a bracket connected to the frame assembly. The bar is pivotal on the bracket to move the cover between open and closed positions over the bed of the pickup truck. The hinged connection of the bar to the bracket is released by manually disconnecting the bar from the cover, permitting the bar to be released from the bracket only after the bar is disconnected from the cover.

  • Patent number: 6580319
Abstract: In a transfer linearization (TL) circuit one or more biased nonlinear elements form a nonlinear attenuator and a biased network to allow adjustment of diodes to linearize the overall transfer of the TL circuit and an amplifier being linearized. The transfer linearization circuit reduces distortion encountered in a broadband RF amplifier. The circuit compensates for attenuation of amplified broadband signals in CATV systems. The transfer linearization circuit provides low insertion loss and requires very low power consumption. Nearly constant impedance and constant insertion loss is provided across a wide frequency range and reduces both in-band and out-of-band third order distortions. The TL circuit exhibits instantaneous amplitude and phase transfer correction. No tuned frequency selective components are required so that adjustments are relatively straightforward.

  • Patent number: 6279594
Abstract: An upright cylindrical valve body has an inlet port axially aligned with an outlet port. A valve member is retained for reciprocal movement into and out of engagement with a valve seat axial aligned with fluid flow between the inlet and outlet ports. A relief port positioned adjacent to the outlet port exhausts fluid that remains in the valve above the valve seat after it is closed. The valve member is normally maintained in a closed position. Fluid flow into the inlet port actuates the valve. A portion of the fluid flowing through the valve chamber is diverted through passageways by a pair of remote controlled solenoid valves to open the valve. When it is desired to close the valve, the solenoid valves are actuated to evacuate fluid internally within the valve so that the valve member is returned to a closed position. A relief valve in the outlet port exhausts fluid from the upper end of the valve when the fluid pressure falls below a preselected magnitude.

  • Patent number: 6214233
Abstract: A waste water stream containing cyanide bearing compounds and heavy metals such as copper, silver, nickel, iron and the like is directed from a source after pH adjustment to a first tank containing adsorption material in the form of granular activated carbon. The waste water is oxygenated by compressed air. The cyanide bearing compounds and heavy metal are adsorbed onto the surface of the adsorption material which is pretreated to an initial pH in the range between about 8.5 to 11. The effluent from the first tank is pH adjusted by a pH controller which adds a caustic solution to the effluent to maintain a control point pH. The pH adjusted effluent is directed toward a second tank containing pretreated adsorption materials. The water stream free of cyanide and metal contaminants is directed to an effluent tank for safe discharge. Thereafter a stripping solution preferably containing sulfuric acid is circulated through the tank to remove the adsorbed metal for the adsorption material.

  • Patent number: 6210309
Abstract: An envelope blank is conveyed through a folding mechanism that folds one or more flaps of the blank. In folding a side flap the leading edge of the blank adjacent to the score line follows in a helical path a convex face of a plowshare. The plowshare face applies at the leading edge of the blank adjacent to the score line a force which bends the side flap through an angle of 180° to a position where the flap is folded to overlap the blank. The folding of the flap is initiated by the convex face of the plowshare so that the flap folding forces are applied to the score line where the flap has the least resistance to bending. The folding forces are removed from the flap free edge which is supported to follow the movement of the flap leading edge.

  • Patent number: 6171734
Abstract: A paper substrate is laminated with a metalized layer forming a mirrored surface. A partially transparent black diffraction grating is applied by stochastic screening to the mirrored surface. The diffraction grating forms a random pattern from selected geometric shapes. Information, such as alphanumeric indicia or graphics, is printed on the stochastic screen to thus form a reflective diffraction device which is printable in a conventional manner while inhibiting reproduction of the printed information by conventional techniques, including black and white and color photo-reproduction and facsimile machines. The partially transparent black stochastic screen forms a diffraction grating on the metalized layer so that when illuminated from the light source of either a specular or diffuse illumination-type photocopier, random interference patterns of light occur at the interface of the metalized surface and the stochastic screen.
