  • Patent number: 4625603
Abstract: The specification discloses a vertical cutoff saw capable of maintaining relatively constant band loading. The saw includes a carriage, a frame supported on the carriage, and a saw band supported by the frame. The frame is horizontally shiftable with respect to the carriage, and a load sensor is mounted between the frame and carriage to sense the relative horizontal force between the frame and carriage to provide an indication of band loading. A variable speed drive transports the carriage responsive to the load sensor to maintain a desired band load.

Abstract: A package and method for fabrication thereof. A basic cardboard (1) is double-folded as the covers of a book and glued between the halves is paper (2) for sealing the side edges of a package. For stiffening the side edges, the edges of said sheet (2) of paper are double-folded and glued for two-layer paper (3). These two-fold marginal or edge portions (3) of said paper sheet (2) are folded along a bending line (6) providing the side edge of a package and the twofold paper is affixed to each half of basic cardboard (1), the side edge of a package thus being sealed with two-layer paper.

  • Patent number: 4622009
Abstract: The specification discloses an analyzer for determining the carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen content of an organic material. The analyzer includes a vertically oriented, U-shaped furnace including a combustion chamber containing a crucible in which the sample is combusted into constituent gases and a reagent chamber containing a reagent through which the constituent gases must pass. A lance extends into the combustion chamber to guide the sample into the crucible and to direct oxygen onto the sample combusting in the crucible. The analyzer further includes an equilibration vessel and means for conveying the constituent gases to the vessel and past CO.sub.2 and H.sub.2 O infrared cells to monitor the products of combustion. Means are provided for conveying the equilibrated gases past the infrared cells to obtain readings relating to carbon and hydrogen content. A doser doses an aliquot of the equilibrated gas into a nitrogen measurement apparatus to obtain a reading relating to nitrogen content.

  • Patent number: 4621375
Abstract: For the remote control of construction machinery, more specially in the form of the distribution mast or boom of a concrete pump, in the invention a transmission system has a radio remote control unit whose control transmitter and receiver are joined up with the command unit and with the distributor for the solenoid valves respectively by respective plug contact connector means. The transmission mode is one using digitally encoded RF messages so that for each control function two part-messages are continuously transmitted after the connections have been made, such messages each being made up of a bit representative of the function, of address information and of a parity bit for security, and mirroring the condition of the circuits of the command unit. The receiver has a RF receiving part, a central process controller and a relay part or a D/A converter.

  • Patent number: 4619103
Abstract: Compression packaging of flexible hose into a packaging container using an elongated peripherally closed housing supporting and surrounding an elongated section of flexible hose. A piston is placed at one end of the housing in peripherally sealed relation to the housing. A packaging container is placed at the second end of the housing. Suction is applied at this second end of the housing to create a pressure differential across the piston without creating a pressure differential across the hose wall, causing the piston to travel the length of the housing for axial compression of the hose into the packaging container.

  • Patent number: 4618186
Abstract: The child restraint of the present invention includes a waistband which is placed around the child. The waistband is retained in that position by hook and napped loop means such as VELCRO. The use of hook and napped loop means permits the waistband to be easily adjusted to fit the size of any particular child. The restraint further includes an elongated strap which is securely attached to the waistband. The strap is adapted to be looped around a suitable anchor, such as the parent's seatbelt or the armrest of the parent's seat. The end of the strap is passed around the fixed object and then threaded through a ring attached to the waistband. The strap is then pulled back across the ring so that it overlaps the portion of the strap projecting toward the ring. The overlapped portions of the strap are secured together by hook and napped loop means such as VELCRO. The device restrains the child from becoming dislodged from his parent's lap during landing and take-off or when turbulence is encountered.

  • Patent number: 4616938
Abstract: Apparatus for measuring the calorific value and other quantities of combustible substances. The apparatus includes a support structure to which a pressure vessel is mounted. The pressure vessel has a cap which provides access to a combustion chamber within the pressure vessel. The pressure vessel is preferably of a double walled construction and a fluid flowpath is formed between the two walls. During combustion tests the temperature of fluid in the flowpath is monitored. Surrounding the pressure vessel is a temperature loss control means which in the preferred embodiment comprises a water jacket through which water is circulated at constant temperature. The invention extends to a method of measuring thermal quantities of combustible substances as well as to a method of determining the sulphur content of combustible substances.

  • Patent number: 4616484
Abstract: A refrigerant heating and cooling system for a motor vehicle includes an inside coil, an outside coil, expansion valves, a reversing valve, a refrigerant compressor, a chiller and a control device. The compressor, outside coil, an expansion valve and the inside coil define a first circuit for cooling the air within the vehicle. The compressor, inside coil, an expansion valve and the chiller define a second circuit for heating the interior of the vehicle. The chiller is a refrigerant-to-engine coolant heat exchanger. When in the heating mode, the chiller functions as an evaporator, the inside coil functions as a condenser and the engine coolant system is the heat source. The control device varies the flow of the engine coolant through the chiller as a function of the engine coolant temperature in order to maintain a relatively constant set temperature within the vehicle.
