  • Patent number: 4580127
Abstract: An A/D converter includes a limiting circuit for limiting the amplitude of bipolar input signals. A comparator compares the amplitude limited signals with reference voltages and provides pulse output signals corresponding to the duration of each half-cycle of the bipolar signals. The pulse output signals are applied to a counter circuit which counts clock pulses for each of the half-cycle intervals to provide a digital word for each half-cycle of bipolar signal information which accurately indicates the duration of each half-cycle of the input signal. The A/D circuit is employed, in one embodiment of the present invention, with a microprocessor programmed to analyze the engine speed signals from a tachometer according to a prescribed relationship to provide output information useful for predicting when engine maintenance is required.

  • Patent number: 4576390
Abstract: A combination outrigger stabilizer and lift axle is provided for vehicles such as dump trucks, fire engines, and other similar equipment. The axle is longitudinally extensible, with a ground engaging wheel rotatably mounted on the outer end thereof. A retractable suspension resiliently supports the axle on the main frame of the vehicle, and is vertically movable between a raised, storage position, and lowered, ground engaging position. The axle can be extended longitudinally into an outrigger position, wherein the lift wheel contacts the ground at a location spaced laterally outwardly of the other, conventional wheels of the vehicle, to provide lateral or side-to-side stabilization. While the axle is in the extended, outrigger position, the resilient suspension is deactivated, and the axle is detachably connected directly with the main frame of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4570574
Abstract: A cage door assembly for easy one-hand operation is disclosed. The cage door is comprised of a pair of legs secured to the ends of a base member. The door is hingedly secured to a cage. An L-shaped hook is attached to each of the free ends of the legs and these hooks engage with cage wires. The door is opened by squeezing the legs together which disengages the hooks from the cage wires. A bracket is positioned above the door and extends between the legs to prevent those legs from being squeezed together. The bracket can be moved from between the legs by pushing it upwardly with the index finger of the hand being used to open the door. The legs can be squeezed together to disengage the hooks from the cage wires once the bracket is removed from between the legs. The door can easily be opened with one hand. A cage assembly incorporating the cage door is also disclosed which has a feed trough upon which the door can rest upon when opened so as to provide a platform.

  • Patent number: 4570990
Abstract: A visor includes a snap-in frame which extends inside a visor mirror receiving recess and engages its sidewalls compressing upholstery fabric against the walls and securely holding it in place. In one embodiment, the visor core is of clamshell construction in which the upholstery material is wrapped around the free edges and held in place around the peripheral boundary of the visor by the clamping action of the visor core. A method of manufacturing a visor of such construction includes the steps of surrounding a visor core having two halves with upholstery material and temporarily affixing the edges of the upholstery material around the free edges of the core, joining the core halves together to clamp the upholstery material in place around the periphery of the visor so formed while bonding the visor core halves permanently together to provide a compressive clamping force to the upholstery material.

  • Patent number: 4570638
Abstract: Methodology and apparatus for the clinical evaluation of biological matter, in particular the human breast, in situ and in vivo, by spectral light transmissivity. An optical probe introduces selected light spectra into the examination subject at a first position and resulting light is detected at a second position located some distance from the infusion point; also, reception preferably occurs at another location, and the distances of these locations from the infusion point are determined. The light energy received at the distant points is quantified and conditioned by use of the determined distances from the infusion point and also by contrasting the data from the two differently-located reception points, such that the resulting data is compensated or normalized to characterize intrinsic internal tissue characteristics in an absolute sense, devoid of individual characteristics such as skin pigmentation, breast thickness, etc.

  • Patent number: 4570895
Abstract: The specification discloses a chair control in which the pretension on the bias means can be adjusted by means of a bolt having a hollow shank with a retractable lever normally stored therein. There is a slot extending from the opening of the hollow shank down one side which can be engaged by said lever when the lever is retracted from the hollow shank and pivoted to one side. There is a retainer cap on the end of the hollow shank which includes an inwardly projecting annular lip which engages an annular rib on the lever to normally hold the lever in its stored position within the hollow shank of the bolt, even though the bolt is oriented upside down when the chair control is mounted on a chair. The lip is yieldable so that one can grasp the lever and pull it out past the lip when one wants to pivot it to one side and into the slot and thereafter rotate the bolt by applying a force to the lever.
