Abstract: A plastics material boot for insertion within adjacent, aligned openings or windows in a camper, cap or canopy and truck combination. A central, flexible tunnel in the form of an inflatable toroidal chamber has spring loaded, compressible, generally quadrilaterally shaped ends inserted through and behind the openings in a compressed state where after they are released to expand and retain the ends behind the openings. The central tunnel is then inflated. No other attachment of any kind is needed to install and retain the boot in place.
Abstract: A device for the finishing of at least one lengthwise edge of a sheet of material, which at least on the one lengthwise edge has a lengthwise strip which is thinner than the remainder of the sheet of material, in that the finished lengthwise edge runs parallel to the lengthwise edge of the sheet to the side bordering the different material thicknesses, and at least two scanning devices are provided, responsive to the variations of thickness of the sheet. One scanning device is arranged to scan the lengthwise strips of the sheet which are thinner and the other scanning device is arranged to scan the sheet in its area of greater thickness. The two scanning devices are positioned transverse to the direction of movement of the sheet and are spaced so that they normally scan the sheet close to the lengthwise edge thereof, on the side bordering the different material thicknesses.
Abstract: To avoid a flimsy arrangement of a roof or outside covering composed of individual plate elements on three-dimensional trussing, and also to produce a solid roof or outside covering, holding spaces are provided on the tops of elongated members of the three-dimensional trussing. The spaces have a smooth cup-shaped cross section, into which the outside edges of plate elements are inserted with their parts which are also in cup-shaped cross section, which serves to hold packing strips. First, plate elements are connected with the elongated members by cover rails with downwardly angled arms, which are fastened by screws to each member, and then packing strips are pressed into the cup-shaped outside edges of plate elements, so that plate elements are attached to members of the three-dimensional trussing with packing, which forms a tight roof or outside covering.
Abstract: A method of safely forcing the egress of human beings from a zone by supplying the zone with an irritating amount of 1-methoxy-1,3,5-cycloheptatriene.
Abstract: A lifting and depositing device for portable containers comprising a plurality of rack and pinion jacks, some of which are mounted on support legs of the container. Each rack and pinion jack has an accessory gearing which can be pivoted outwardly or removed, so that when accessory gearing is pivoted outwardly, a support leg can be manually moved axially relative to its guide part, if the container, e.g., is offset on the loading surface of a truck. Thus, the gearing operation and time-consuming crank work required until now for two idle strokes per work cycle is avoided.
Abstract: Herein disclosed is a rear suspension mechanism for a motorcycle, in which a swing arm having its one end hinged to a body frame is connected to the body frame in the vicinity of the hinged portion of the swing arm through a bell crank having an eccentric bearing mechanism, and in which a cushion unit is connected between the body frame and one end of the bell crank.
Abstract: A self-supporting composite plate for double floors, ceilings or the like, with a pan-shaped outside wrapper member and a hardenable mineral filler, e.g., anhydrite, which can be introduced in liquid state into the pan-shaped wrapper member, and in which are embedded lightweight construction materials. The construction materials are substantially spherical bodies that are retained in a predetermined distribution essentially in the area of the statically neutral zone of the composite plate by a latticed holder that is provided within the wrapper member.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for producing a spun yarn having true twist comprising extracting staple fibers from a bundle of staple fibers; and collecting the extracted staple fibers on the periphery of a spinning rotor; and recontacting the extracted fibers with the bundle of staple fibers to form a combined untwisted yarn; and twisting the combined untwisted yarn to produce a twisted yarn; and withdrawing the twisted yarn from the spinning rotor.
Abstract: In a heat exchanger with fluid flow tubes, a degassing device formed in a water box of the exchanger, said water box including first and second collecting chambers and a compensation chamber, communicating with the outlet pipe of the exchanger, and a narrow passage connecting the upper portion of the first collecting chamber with the compensation chamber by forming a siphon between said two chambers.
Abstract: A joint connection for space frameworks made of rods and joint members wherein the joint members have concentric threaded bores for receiving threaded bolts for the connection of the rods with the joint members. The required torque is applied by means of screwing tools through non-rotatable but axially slidable drive sleeves on the threaded bolts. The drive sleeves inserted between the rod ends and joint members are also used to bias the threaded bolts so strongly that the bias force is greater than the charges from the outside which have a dynamic effect, in order to avoid the danger of fatigue fractures. For this purpose, each drive sleeve may be formed of three parts which, on the basis of cooperating helical surfaces with suitable relative rotation of the middle part relative to both outside parts, are axially adjustable in opposite directions to axially bias the threaded bolt to lengthen it and therewith to axially bias it.
Abstract: An article of footwear comprising a flexible elongated vamp or front upper member having a plurality of apertures along its ends, a flexible elongated quarter or rear upper member having a plurality of apertures along its ends, a notched innersole, a flexible socklining having an expanded shape, slits along both sides of the front and rear portions thereof, and a plurality of apertures along both sides of each of the slits. The front and rear upper members are inserted into the slits in the socklining and joined therewith to form a one-piece unit by passing a thread or the like through the apertures to form a seam at each point of insertion. The peripheral portion of the expanded socklining then is wrapped around and attached to an innersole which is notched to receive the raised handsewn seams at the proper locations. Each seam is located closely adjacent and substantially parallel to the "feather line" of the shoe, i.e., the line at which a sole portion is joined to the innersole.
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of porous sintered bodies with large open pore volume and defined pore diameter. A sinterable material in the form of finely ground powder is mixed with a leachable substance. The leachable substance is in the form of powder of a defined particle size. The mixture of sinterable material and leachable substance is heated to the sintering temperature and maintained there until the sinterable mass is sintered. The mass is then cooled and the leachable substance leached from the sintered mass.
Abstract: This invention provides a method for the manufacture of a fibrous plate rich in water resistance, which comprises the steps of uniformly mixing and dispersing fibrous raw material and finely divided bituminous substance in water, molding the resultant aqueous dispersion in the shape of a plate, and heating the plate with a hot press thereby melting the bituminous substance contained in the fibrous material and converting the plate into a fibrous plate having the bituminous substance uniformly dispersed therein. The fibrous plate obtained by this method excels in water resistance, weatherability, and thermal insulation and passes the standard specification concerning joint plates for use in concrete structures.
Abstract: A floor, useful for ice or roller skating, including a planar surface made up of a plurality of panels and including locating devices positioned over and under adjacent panels to restrict relative movement between the panels.
Abstract: A molding cast system for fractures of the humerus and of the radius and ulna that includes a molding cast having a wall member forming a substantially horizontal chamber for holding the forearm and a substantially vertical chamber for holding the upper arm, with an elongated aperture along the top of the horizontal chamber and an elongated aperture along the front of the vertical chamber. Connectors having fasteners hold the edges of the wall member defining the apertures together. A neck sling is affixed to the wall member. The wall member has an outer layer of soft flannel; a middle layer of a laminated plaster of paris casting material; and an inner layer of a flexible porous material next to the skin. The molding cast is prefabricated and can be shipped in a rolled condition to a hospital or doctor's office where it can be treated to be made pliable for specific application to a patient.
