In particular, this invention relates to oral compositions comprising: (a) a safe and effective amount of a carboxy-substituted polymer active agent having the formula ##STR1## or the salts thereof, wherein R is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl group, n is in the range of from 0 to about 2,000, m is in the range of from about 10 to about 2,000, and p is in the range of from about 1 to about 10; and (b) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. These compositions inhibit plaque without staining the tooth surfaces which are contacted with the composition.This invention also relates to a method of inhibiting plaque on tooth surfaces in the oral cavity. This method involves applying a safe and effective amount of the carboxy-substituted polymer active agent to the oral cavity. Such an application is typically made by applying the above-described oral compositions containing the carboxy-substituted polymer to the tooth surface.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a process for sulfating unsaturated alcohols using inexpensive reagents and mild reaction conditions. The process comprises reacting an unsaturated alcohol of the formula R--OH, wherein R is a C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 alkenyl group, with an ether sulfate of the formula R.sup.1 (OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.n OSO.sub.3 M, wherein R.sup.1 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 hydrocarbyl group, n is an integer from 1 to 10, and M is an alkali metal, to form an unsaturated sulfate; said reaction being carried out in the presence of a catlaytically effective amount of an acid catalyst. The mole ratio of unsaturated alcohol reactant to ether sulfate ranges from about 0.5:1 to about 2:1. In this process the sulfation occurs primarily at the hydroxyl group of the unsaturated alcohol, with minimal sulfation at the olefinic moiety of said alcohol.

C. through a nozzle having a diameter of about 100 microns to 1200 microns at a velocity of 100 m/sec. to 250 m/sec. and into a vacuum chamber at 5 mm to 200 mm Hg and at temperatures of from 10.degree. C. to about 55.degree. C. and then treating the recovered juice fraction with a yeast. The alcohol formed during this fermentation reaction is removed by distillation, preferably by the same aerosolization process as the volatiles are removed. The aroma and flavor volatiles are returned to the juice to provide a good tasting low calorie fruit juice.

The decreased pectin level increases the gustatory display of the aroma/flavor and improves the mouthfeel of the beverage. Decrease of the pectin level is achieved essentially without the formation of methanol and essentially without the hydrolysis of important aroma ester compounds.

When caffeine is present, this beverage retains the alertness benefit of caffeine along with the relaxing effects attributed to the green tea solids.

This method involves utilizing a sugar soaking step to prevent the collapse and shrinkage of the individual pieces of fruit or vegetable during the drying process. The method further comprises mixing the pieces of fruit or vegetable with a foam composition prior to drying. This results in distribution of the pieces within the snack in an open mat structure so that the snack product is characterized by a ratio of solids volume to total volume of from about 0.5 to about 0.85. The final snack product has a low water activity and bulk density and provides a crisp, tender eating quality.
