  • Patent number: 4787435
Abstract: A core box assembly includes an outer aluminum box containing an inner plastic or wooden mold section having a core depression therein adapted to receive mold sand. A strike-off surface on the box and mold section surrounds an opening providing access to the core depression. A peripheral portion of the strike-off surface is removed so that a step is formed around the periphery of the aluminum box. A portion of flat steel plate is formed with a centrally disposed opening therethrough and is fixed on the assembly with its upper surface in the plane of the strike-off surface, its outer boundary coincident with the outer boundary of the aluminum box, and its inner boundary abutting the step.

  • Patent number: 4592474
Abstract: A coupling and latching mechanism for a multi-section extensible boom that includes a manual section and is operable from a remote location such as the cab of a crane. The mechanism includes pairs of spaced jaw type couplings secured to adjacent boom sections and adapted to be selectively coupled to the piston rod or the like of an extensible ram for operating the boom either with the manual section extended or retracted. Remotely controlled latch locking blocks are provided to latch the manual section in a plurality of extended positons, or in a retracted position.

  • Patent number: 4585132
Abstract: A multi-section telescopic boom is disclosed having a base section supported for pivotal movement, a manual section telescopically received in said base section, a mid section, and a tip section which sections are progressively lighter from the base section to the tip section when excluding the weight of head machinery connected to the tip section. The heavy manual section is stored in the base section when a load to be transferred between two locations can be reached with the mid and tip sections extended thereby substantially decreasing the turning moment about the pivot axis due to the weight of the boom sections resulting in an increased load carrying capacity of the boom. The boom is preferably supported by a pendant line operatively connected to the outer end of the tip and base sections and trained within the boom to aid a single hydraulic ram to extend and retract selected sections of the boom.

  • Patent number: 4523686
Abstract: An improved anti-two block system having a boom hoist drum driven by a first hydraulic motor with a first variable displacement motor controlled by a first ram moveable in a given direction to supply fluid pressure for driving the boom drum to lower a boom and a hook block drum driven by a second hydraulic motor with a second variable displacement pump controlled by second ram moveable in a given direction to supply fluid pressure for driving the hook drum to raise a hook block. A differential mechanism sums the movement of the hook block and boom and activates a switch to energize solenoid valve means, when the hook block is a predetermined distance from the boom, to preclude movement of said rams in the given directions.

  • Patent number: 4489838
Abstract: A telescopic boom is disclosed which is pivotally supported by its base section for movement about a horizontal axis. The boom is supported by a live mast through multi-part pendant lines, which pendant lines are each reeved over sheaves attached to the boom at the forward end of the base section and at the forward end of another boom section to support the boom at a plurality of points forwardly of the live mast. The forward end of each pendant is preferably received within the boom over sheaves journaled on the cylinder case of a boom extending ram and on selected sections of the boom. The multi-part pendant supported boom reduces boom droop caused by extension of the boom approximately 50% of that of a boom supported at a single point by each pendant line.

  • Patent number: 4478014
Abstract: A telescopic boom is disclosed having a plurality of generally tubular boom sections each having its corners defined by angled corner plates converging upwardly and inwardly at equal angles relative to a central vertical plane containing the longitudinal axes of all boom sections when properly aligned. Boom shoes secured to the outer surfaces and near the inner ends of the angled corner plates of all boom sections except the largest section slidably engaging the adjacent angled corner plates of the next larger boom section; and similar boom shoes secured to the inner surfaces of the angled corner plates near the outer end of all boom sections except the smallest section slidably engaging the outer angled surfaces of the next smaller section.

  • Patent number: 4394911
Abstract: Several embodiments of a crane are described and require a minimum of set up and strip down time. Each embodiment includes auxiliary frame means that is slightly wider in outside dimension than the tracks for supporting the main boom and gantry at its forward end, and supporting counterweights at its rear end with rollers on both ends permitting rotation of the auxiliary frame and vertically movable components supported thereon about a vertical axis. The rollers rest upon a horizontal steel ring supported by the ground during working of the crane, and the auxiliary frame and vertically movable components operatively connected thereto are moved upwardly to provide adequate road clearance when it is desired to move the vehicle from one site to the next. In one embodiment the ring is an inexpensive thin steel ring secured to a previously constructed concrete foundation and permits the relatively narrow vehicle to be driven over a portion of the ring onto and off of each preconstructed foundation.
