  • Patent number: 4711156
Abstract: A linear to rotary actuator is disclosed having a fluid pressure operated diaphragm whose linear movement is translated into rotary movement of an output member by a helical coupling therebetween. The coupling comprises a coupling member that is insert molded in the diaphragm so as to extend therethrough and interlock therewith while preventing fluid from passing from one diaphragm side to the other. The coupling member has a combined guide and anti-rotation portion extending from one side of the diaphragm that slidably engages a stationary guide so as to guide linear movement while preventing rotational movement of the coupling member and further has a helix extending from the other side of the diaphragm which in one embodiment slidably engages in a slot directly in the output member whereby linear movement of the diaphragm forces linear non-rotational movement of the coupling member and thereby rotary movement of the output member.

  • Patent number: 4700469
Abstract: A detachable clip is disclosed separately fixturing each of two reinforcements extending along opposite sides of a heat exchanger core to one of two headers at opposite ends of the core during brazing of the core and the reinforcements to the headers at junctures thereof and wherein the reinforcements may be assembled prior to brazing with substantial air space at their junctures with the headers but not exceeding a prescribed limit. The clip is made of a material having a coefficient of thermal expansion substantially less than the reinforcements so as to draw the reinforcements and headers together during brazing through a distance at least equal to the prescribed air space limit to thereby assure contact at all the junctures between the reinforcements and headers during the brazing thereof.

  • Patent number: 4685531
Abstract: A torque strut is pivotally connected about pivot axes at opposite ends thereof between a vehicle and its power train for controlling the pitching of the latter. The torque strut has an elastomeric bushing that is supported for angular movement about one of its pivot axes and has a configuration such as to effect a spring rate acting longitudinally of the strut that varies with angular movement of the bushing. The strut additionally has a drive for automatically angularly moving the bushing to vary the spring rate in response to varying power train operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 4683913
Abstract: A rotary air valve mounted in a case for rotatable movement about an axis to close either one of two adjacent openings has a flexible elastomeric seal that flexibly engages inwardly and outwardly facing curved sealing surfaces on the case to seal the respective openings when the valve closes same. The sealing surfaces have a radius of curvature whose axis is offset from that of the valve so that a predetermined contact pressure is established along the seal at the curved sealing surfaces to tightly seal the openings when the valve is closed but diminishes to zero immediately as the valve is rotated to open either opening to thereafter permit further opening of the valve uninhibited by the seal.

  • Patent number: 4679649
Abstract: The mounting of an engine with at least one hydraulically damped spring element on the body of a motor vehicle having a wheel which is spring-mounted with respect to the body. Movements of the engine as a result of irregularities in its path are damped by a displacement transducer placed between the body and the wheel, and the hydraulically damped spring element is operatively connected to the displacement transducer in such a way that as the signal from the displacement transducer increases as a result of a change in displacement between the body and the wheel, the hydraulic damping of the spring element increases.

  • Patent number: 4679777
Abstract: A hydraulic-elastomeric mount has a pair of liquid filled chambers formed by elastomeric walls and separated by a rigid partition having an orifice that connects the chambers to effect damping. The partition supports a rigid damping decoupler for free reciprocal movement between oppositely facing rigid sides of the partition so as to effect cyclic volume change in the chambers to eliminate damping under certain conditions. A tapered elastomeric cushion is added to the decoupler to both cushion and cause rocking of same to prevent noise thereby.

  • Patent number: 4679285
Abstract: A lubricated hinge comprises a pair of hinge plates and a lubricant filled hinge pin fitting through barrel sections of the hinge plates so as to pivotally connect same. The hinge pin comprises a hollow cylindrical body hvaing at one end a radially expansible portion terminating with a stop shoulder and at another end a preformed head and lubricant entrance. The pin body between its ends has lubricant delivery holes for delivering lubricant to between the pin body and the barrel sections of two hinge plates. The pin body is insertable into the barrel sections with the preformed head abutting one side of the hinge and the stop shoulder aligned with an opposite side of the hinge. A shank of a mandrel having an extruding head is insertable through the pin body and is adapted to then be pulled so as to radially expand the expansion portion of the pin body with the extruding head to abut the other side of the hinge and until the extruding head is stopped by the stop shoulder in the pin body.

  • Patent number: 4664363
Abstract: A hydraulic-elastomeric mount is disclosed having a hydraulic damping decoupler mounted for reciprocal movement in a partition in response to alternating pressure buildup in two orifice connected chambers so as to effect cyclic volume change in the chambers to thereby permit vibratory amplitudes below a prescribed level without forcing liquid through the orifice and thus without hydraulic damping thereby and while also providing for limited flow through the partition between the chambers in bypass relation to the orifice so as to effect limited damping during decoupler operation and smooth transition between damping and no damping by the orifice.
