  • Patent number: 4401293
Abstract: An arrangement wherein fluid pressure passageways opening into inner chambers of a cylindrical housing of a valve device, are formed between abutting faces of two axially aligned cylindrical portions comprising the housing. The opening or passageway between the abutting faces is formed by complementarily engaging saw-like teeth formed around the annular abutting faces of the two housing portions. This arrangement provides a smoother surface over which the sealing gasket on a valve member must ride, thus resulting in less wear and tear on the gasket.

  • Patent number: 4378474
Abstract: An electrical switch device manually operable, by a rotatable knob, to a plurality of definable positions for selectively effecting operation of an automotive transmission to a desired gear ratio. The knob and a housing, which includes the switch, may be mounted any place in the vehicle cab within convenient reach of the operator. The switch device is connected to an electronic logic system which monitors the condition of the transmission at all times to either energize or deenergize a lock-out solenoid, which controls a latch mechanism. Depending upon the condition of the transmission and, therefore, of the solenoid, a latch mechanism either permits or inhibits operation of the knob. An override mechanism permits the operator to release the latch mechanism to permit operation of the knob and the switch for shifting of the transmission, in an emergency situation, notwithstanding that the latch mechanism is in a locked position.

  • Patent number: 4368648
Abstract: A hand brake including a lock-up and release clutch mechanism, a ratchet rotatable by a hand wheel connected thereto through a drive shaft, a nut screw-threadedly arranged on the shaft and effective, upon rotation of the wheel and shaft in one direction, for advancing on the nut on the shaft to cause the ratchet to be clamped between respective friction surfaces of the nut and friction plates carried on the shaft. Rotation of the shaft causes rotation of a pinion which, in turn, rotates a gear associated with a chain drum to effect chain take-up and, therefore, application of the brakes. A holding pawl prevents rotation of the ratchet in a release direction. Rotation of the hand wheel in an opposite direction effects release of the clutch mechanism and consequently relaxation of tension on the chain for effecting a gradual release of the brakes. Quick release of the brakes is effected by a lever which, by rotation, causes disengagement of the collar from the pinion.

  • Patent number: 4354302
Abstract: A fluid pressure operable jacking tool having oppositely disposed locking arms. With the draft key and coupler removed, the locking arms of the jacking tool, when installed, biasingly engage the coupler cross key slots formed in the draft gear yoke, so that a fluid pressure powered ram of the jacking tool abuts against the draft gear follower. A fluid pressure line is connected to the jacking tool and, when provided with fluid pressure, causes the jacking tool ram head to compress the draft gear to allow removal of the draft gear and jacking tool from the car center sill together. Once removed, pressure is released from the jacking tool to permit separation thereof from the draft gear. If the draft gear is to be installed, a reverse procedure would be employed.
