  • Patent number: 4037880
Abstract: An emergency brake valve device, especially for rapid transit railway vehicles, in which a vent valve for propogating transmission of an emergency rate reduction of brake pipe pressure is opened by direct engagement thereof by a brake pipe pressure reduction rate sensitive piston subjected unrestrictedly to brake pipe pressure on one side and to control brake pipe pressure communicated to the opposite side via a choke. A magnet valve device connected to brake pipe pressure on the one side of the rate sensitive piston provides for electrically initiating reduction of the brake pipe at an emergency rate and, consequently, an emergency brake application.

  • Patent number: 4014580
Abstract: An improved simplified emergency brake valve device including a relay valve portion responsive to brake pipe pressure reduction at an emergency rate for actuating a logic valve portion which, in turn, when actuated, causes operation of a vent valve portion via which the brake pipe is opened to atmosphere for effecting reduction of brake pipe pressure at an emergency rate at the succeeding car in the train, thereby propogating such reduction of brake pipe pressure throughout the train for effecting an emergency brake application thereon.

  • Patent number: 4008017
Abstract: Seals for providing sealing contact between the rotary piston and the apexes of the casing of a rotary type combustion engine, compressor, or pump for sealing the several pressure chambers, one from the other or others, during operation. The seals are disposed in radially formed slots at each apex of the housing and are so constructed to permit pressure in the chamber being pressured to be communicated to the rear side of the seal, or the side opposite that which makes sealing contact with the rotary piston, so that such pressure acting on the rear side may assist the spring normally acting against the same side in forcing the seal against the rotary piston with greater pressure and thereby provide a better sealing effect.

  • Patent number: 3992062
Abstract: Combination fluid pressure and electric operable trip cock emergency brake apparatus for use with railway vehicles including a trip cock device having a fluid pressure portion and an electrical portion, both operable concurrently, when a trip lever thereon is actuated by a trip arm located on the roadway, for providing concurrent fluid pressure and electrical pilot signals to cause operation of a common control switch which in turn, when so operated, actuates propulsion and brake control devices to cause propulsion power to be cut off and an emergency brake application to be effected concurrently. The fluid pressure and electric portions of the trip cock device complement each other to insure that one or the other, if not both, will effect the desired results in an emergency situation.

  • Patent number: 3992065
Abstract: A brake control valve device for a use with tandem or tractor-trailer type vehicles employing dual brake systems with the source of operating fluid supplied at a relatively higher pressure than that required for operating the brakes. The respective valve elements of the valve device for controlling supply and exhaust of operating pressure to and from the respective brake circuits are mechanically actuated through a manually actuated pressure graduating piston (for the first brake circuit) and a fluid pressure responsive relay piston (for the second brake circuit), the dimensions of the relay piston being limited to less than normal for conserving space, but being provided with an adjusting mechanism for adjusting the fluid pressure responsive operating range thereof for compensating for the smaller dimension and synchronizing the relative serial operation of the dual brake circuits.
