    Abstract: A low-cost high performance ultra wideband antenna that combines a plurality of shielded cables with properly selected and carefully positioned load balancing components to form a novel closed loop dipole is disclosed. The apparatus includes a closed-loop broadband antenna circuit that may be comprised of single or multiple conductive radiating elements that are electrically connected to one another at the flare-end of each antenna leaf by at least one shielded conductor in one or more shielded cables of any type. The shielded cable portion of the closed loop circuit may be interrupted by load impedance tapered regions that are positioned in an area that does not interfere or interferes minimally with antenna performance. The closed-loop broadband antenna circuit and the feed-point connections may be grounded by a separate path within the device. The disclosed approach simultaneously mitigates known problems of parasitic side lobes, antenna ringing, and RF coupling that commonly plague prior art.

    Abstract: A dynamic webpage processing method, including identifying a static component within a dynamic webpage, the static component comprising computer code defining at least a portion of a target webpage and configurable via first configuration data, rendering the static component as a static markup language equivalent, and returning the target webpage upon request through rendering a dynamic component within the dynamic webpage based on second configuration data is disclosed. Thus, static component(s) can be pre-rendered, leaving only the dynamic component(s) of the dynamic webpage for on-the-fly rendering when a target webpage request is made. This can greatly reduce dynamic webpage processing requirements, particularly in situations where the webpage configuration changes or evolves slowly.

    Abstract: A method to present easily understood images that represent targets that are detected through walls or other opaque barriers is disclosed. This method is particularly well suited for sense-through-the-wall radar systems. One of the main challenges of evolving STTW systems is that the practitioners of the technology are generally presented with complicated images to represent the gain adjusted amplitude of signals that are detected by the radar. Interpretation of images from prior art, which can be in the form of the radar speckle, target blob, wiggle plot, and horizontal amplitude intensity displays, shown in FIGS. 1 through 3, requires high levels of skill, focus, and time. Naturally, the foregoing places military and law-enforcement customers of the technology at considerable risk during hostile missions. This invention discloses a method that converts a typical radar signal into an image that is easily understood by a practitioner of STTW technology.

    Abstract: A non-contact gauging system and method profiles a workpiece to accurately determine cylindrical surface profiles. The system includes a sensor head for performing reflected light measurements. The sensor head couples to a sensor arm that is movable in longitudinal, lateral, and transverse directions. A computer controls operation of the sensor head and arm to perform various proximity measurements of the workpiece. Proximity measurements are made along at least three parallel, lateral tracks that extend along a longitudinal length of the workpiece surface. The sensor head takes proximity measurements as it is moved continuously along each lateral track. The computer determines the diameters of the workpiece along the longitudinal length based on the proximity measurements and generates a profile.

    Abstract: An inflatable corner cushion for protecting a corner of an object is disclosed. The inflatable corner cushion may have two triangular, inflatable cushions. Each cushion may have two edges meeting to form a V-shape. The two edges may be sealed together along the V-shaped edges such that, when the chambers are at least partially inflated, a combination of the chambers forms a pocket for enclosing a corner of an object. An inflatable coner cushion may be placed on each corner of an object. The objects and cushion may then be placed in a shipping box. In such a condition, the pocket surrounds each corner such that they are protected from impacts from all directions.

    Abstract: A method for characterizing a surface are disclosed. The system includes a light source optic which direct a beam of light toward the surface. Scattered light and a spectacular beam are reflected from the surface. A collector collects the scattered light and directs the scattered light to a detector. The detector measures the intensity of the scattered light. A shutter is advanced into position to intersect the scattered light and to block a segment not having substantially any anisotropic light scatter. The shutter further passes another segment having substantially all of the anisotropic light scatter. The detector measures the intensity of the passed segment. A roughness ratio indicative of the anisotropic roughness to the isotropic roughness is produced by evaluating the total intensity of the scattered light and the intensity of the passed segment.

    Abstract: An air turbine apparatus for use with a combustion engine either as a muffler or as an air intake device is comprised of a housing defining an expansion chamber and an airfoil positioned within the housing. The airfoil includes a central aperture extending longitudinally therethrough that is in fluid communication with both the inlet and the outlet of the housing. The airfoil is configured to allow gases flowing through the inlet to flow between the outer edge of the airfoil and the housing and through the aperture of the airfoil. In addition, the air traveling through the housing is caused to spin as it travels through the housing. This rotational flow increased the rate of flow of gases through the air turbine device. A chop core is provided between the airfoil and the outlet of the housing to encourage turbulent flow of gases without restricting flow to produce a muffling effect and thus a dampening of noise from the combustion engine.

A bulbous portion may be provided adjacent the opening and have the largest bore diameter therein. Because of the variety of bore diameters, the bore will receive and hold a wide variety of temple piece end sizes.

    Abstract: The detector elements are larger than an image of the spot on the array would be, but an image is not formed on the array. Instead, the beam shaping element enlarges the size of the area of illumination on the array slightly, and mixes, or homogenizes, the light. This destroys the image and the intensity variations originating at the spot on the surface that would be contained in the image. The enlargement of the area of illumination together with the homogenization allow the position of the beam on the array to be determined to a resolution of about {fraction (1/10)}th of the width of a detector element. This position is then converted to an absolute distance output which may be read by digital or analog means.

    Abstract: The present invention provides an enhanced system and method for compensating for load imbalances of rotating members. An imbalance compensator may have a balancing ring wirelessly controlled by a ring controller. The balancing ring may have a housing containing a plurality of actuators configured to exert force against a compensation ring within the housing. The actuators may move the compensation ring with respect to the axis of rotation of the shaft in a direction substantially opposite the direction of the imbalance. The actuators may directly contact the compensation ring, or may exert the force through the use of mechanical transfer devices that provide a selected mechanical advantage. Alternatively, a chamber containing a magnetic fluid may be used to provide a counterbalancing mass. Particles within the magnetic fluid maybe concentrated opposite the imbalance direction through the use of electromagnets or permanent magnets mounted on movable carts.

The web/text translator converts the web data to text data which is readable by the text device. The text data is then transmitted to the text gateway module and then passed to the text device.

In one embodiment, there are four apertures which each receive a corner of a rectangular object. The device provides a circular air cushion chamber which is disposed around a perimeter of the object. Forces applied to the device are uniformly distributed around the device to minimize the effect on the object.

    Abstract: The invention is an optimistic locking mechanism which allows Internet access to a database while maintaining data integrity in a stateless web environment. One embodiment of the invention incorporates a conventional IMS residing on a host computer and includes a generic transaction module which retrieves original data segments from the an IMS database in response to a search request from a web user. This embodiment of the invention further includes a server-side interface module for duplicating the original data segment into identical lines of data segments. One data segment may be updated by a web user whereas the other data segment remains constant and serves as a reference of the original state of the data segment. Both data segments are transmitted to a web user who may make changes to one data segment but not the other.
