  • Patent number: 5945048
Abstract: In a process for extruding polymer melts (25) to form hollow chamber sections (21) by pressing the polymer melt through a shaping tool (24) with an internal shaping mandrel (26) and by subsequently sizing and cooling the hollow chamber section strand in a sizing and cooling unit (31) it is provided for the sizing and cooling of the hollow chamber section strand to be carried out in the sizing and cooling unit under extrusion pressure. A device for carrying out this process is characterized in that shaping tool (24) and sizing and cooling unit (31) are rigidly connected to form a closed system so that the strand extrusion pressure prevailing in the shaping tool can be propagated into the sizing and cooling unit, and that the shaping mandrel (26) protrudes out of the shaping tool (24) into the sizing and cooling unit (31).

  • Patent number: 5941146
Abstract: A work spindle for a machine tool. The work spindle has a spindle guard tube, a clamping arrangement, a clamping force generator, which is arranged on the spindle guard tube and operates the clamping arrangement, and which has at least one first cylinder chamber enclosed by a first cylinder housing and a first piston, in such a way that a large band width of different clamping forces may be generated simply. The clamping force generator has a second cylinder chamber enclosed by a second cylinder housing and a second piston. Additionally, for operation of the clamping arrangement, both cylinder chambers are always subjected to a pressurized medium. Furthermore, to generate different clamping forces, the clamping force generator is switchable over from a first working mode, in which at least the first piston operates the clamping arrangement, into a second working mode, in which at least the second piston operates the clamping arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5942730
Abstract: A threaded cable joint for a cable having a cable shield enclosing an internal conductor region. The cable joint, which may be connected to a housing, has a connection piece and an outer pressure element. The outer pressure element is screw-connected to the connection piece, and acts on a seal to cause the seal to abut against the cable as the cable passes through the threaded cable joint. A number of shield contact elements are arranged within the connection piece, and in electrical contact with the connection piece. The shield contact elements include conductive contact bows that extend in the direction of the passed-through cable for contacting the cable shield at a first contact point, thus forming a direct electrical connection between the cable shield and the connection piece.

  • Patent number: 5938656
Abstract: In order to render possible the ablation to different depths in a process for correcting the shape of a lens in which the surface of the lens is acted upon by the radiation of a pulsed radiation source through a shutter in specific regions exposed by the shutter and thereby removing material from the lens by the radiation effect during the impingement of each radiation pulse, wherein the radiation is concentrated in a bundle of rays, the cross section of which is smaller when striking the lens surface than that of the lens surface exposed by the shutter, and wherein the bundle of rays is moved such that the entire lens surface exposed by the shutter is irradiated by radiation pulses consecutively impinging on the lens surface, it is suggested that the bundle of rays is moved between successive radiation pulses only to such an extent that the regions of the lens surface struck by the radiation pulses consecutively impinging on the lens surface partially overlap.

  • Patent number: 5940429
Abstract: An auxiliary data signal is transported with a primary data signal by hiding the auxiliary data signal in the form of colored noise. The colored noise has a spectrum that simulates the spectrum of the primary data signal. By adjusting the gain of individual spread spectrum signal carrier(s) and the power of the colored noise, the auxiliary information stream(s) can be rendered at any desired level below or above an interference threshold in the primary data signal. The power of the colored noise is further compensated to account for a cross-correlation between the primary data signal and the auxiliary data signal to enhance the recovery of the auxiliary data at a decoder.

  • Patent number: 5937000
Abstract: Auxiliary data is transported in a primary data signal by hiding the data in the form of colored noise. The colored noise has a spectrum that simulates the spectrum of the primary data signal. The data to be transported is first converted to a spread spectrum signal. The primary data signal is analyzed to determine its spectral shape. The same spectral shape is imparted to the spread spectrum signal, which is then combined with the primary data signal for transmission. The spectral shaping can be performed using time domain modeling and synthesis such as linear predictive coding or by using subband coding techniques such as fast Fourier transforms. A plurality of different auxiliary information streams can be transported on the primary data signal. By adjusting the gain of individual spread spectrum signal carrier(s) and the power of the colored noise, the auxiliary information stream(s) can be rendered at a desired level at, below or above an interference threshold in the primary data signal.

  • Patent number: 5931158
Abstract: An improved pressure vessel which has a fluid flowing through it can be simply manufactured and has a high operational safety. The fluid may be heated by radiation, such as solar radiation. A guiding device with inlet and outlet stream guides is arranged in the interior of the pressure vessel to guide a stream of the fluid. The inlet stream guide and the outlet stream guide are separate from one another, and are formed in the vessel interior by the guiding device. The stream of fluid is guided from the inlet stream guide to the outlet stream guide. Additionally, a branch stream of the stream of fluid is returned from the outlet stream guide to the inlet stream guide via a passage of the guiding device due to a lower pressure that is created in the inlet stream guide.

  • Patent number: 5917830
Abstract: A secondary packetized data stream, such as a commercial, is spliced with a primary packetized data stream, such as a network television program. The system does not require decompression of the data in the primary data stream, and is particularly suitable for use at a cable system headend to allow the insertion of commercials from local businesses into a nationally broadcast television program. When a start signal is received, a pre-splicing packet of the primary stream is determined. The pre-splicing packet is the packet closest to the start time which carries an anchor frame (e.g., I or P frame) start code. To prevent a potential discontinuity at the decoder, the pre-splicing packet is processed to discard the anchor frame data, and to insert a number of stuffing bytes which is equal to the number of bytes discarded into an adaptation field of the pre-splicing packet.
