  • Patent number: 7744032
Abstract: A power transmission and imaging system for an airship comprises a transmission antenna array configured to transmit an energy beam to a patch rectenna carried by the airship. Coupled to the patch rectenna is a power distribution and control network that supplies rectified power delivered by the energy beam into the proper format for delivery to a power storage system and a motor control system. The power storage system comprises one or more batteries to store the transmitted energy, while the motor control system powers various propellers, blowers, and valves maintained by the airship in order to descend the airship to the ground. The rectenna may also function as an imaging system in real-time. The image processing system uses the patch rectenna to transmit and receive signals, and in turn store and process the return signals (images).

  • Patent number: 7735612
Abstract: A brake (10) for applying a braking force to a shaft includes a housing (11) which defines a chamber (17). The housing (11) includes a plurality of depressions (19) circumferentially spaced around an axis (22). A rotatable actuator (40) is received in the chamber (17) and includes a plurality of depressions (43) circumferentially spaced around the axis (22). The housing depressions (19) face the rotatable actuator depressions (43) and each matching pair of depressions receive a ball (23) therebetween. A spring (50) under compression is positioned centrally about the axis (22). A bearing (56) is interposed between the rotatable actuator (40) and disc assembly (70) which minimizes frictional effects and rotational feedback during brake actuation. When the rotatable actuator (40) is rotated, the balls (23) roll along the depressions (19, 43) to gradually shallower portions thereof. This moves the rotatable actuator (40) axially away from the housing (11), thereby applying a braking force to the shaft.

  • Patent number: 7683519
Abstract: A curvilinear brush retainer and brushes for an electric motor assembly provides an end plate upon which is disposed a pair of curvilinear brush retainers. The brush retainers are configured to retain and support a pair of curvilinear brushes as they are biased against the commutator of the electric motor along a curvilinear path. Brush liners are disposed within the curvilinear path maintained by the brush retainers, serving to reduce the stiction or frictional force imparted to the brushes as they move, thereby reducing the temperature of the brush and extending their operating life.
