Abstract: Apparatus and method are disclosed to prevent melted yarn when stopped in a high temperature texturing jet device utilizing high temperature fluid such as steam. The device of this invention is attached to the prior art texturing jet device. The attachment comprises a sleeve around the yarn ejector. The sleeve has at least two orifices communicating with a conduit for high pressure fluid having a valve actuated by a sensor to detect yarn stoppage. The high pressure fluid, such as air, blows the yarn plug and yarn from the texturing jet device. The method comprises sensing yarn stoppage with a sensor and actuating the valve in the high pressure fluid conduit communicating with at least two orifices in the sleeve surrounding at least the down stream portion of the injector and blowing any yarn in the texturing chamber out of the chamber with high pressure fluid.
Abstract: A muffler is provided for use in conjunction with a jet for treating a running length of yarn. Audible noise which is emitted by the jet is reduced by at least 11.5 .DELTA.dB(A) through the use of a housing to substantially enclose the jet. The housing has openings for the entrance and exit of a yarn and is at least partially lined with sound absorbing material; sound absorbing material also closes the openings in the housing. The travelling yarn abrades through the sound absorbing material at the openings to form an operational passage to and from the jet.

Abstract: When from about 0.5% to about 5% of N,N'-disubstituted thioureas are coated on nylon fiber, improved dyefastness is achieved compared to an untreated dyed nylon fiber when this fiber is exposed to ozone.
Abstract: This invention discloses the improved method of making nylon cationic dyeable whereby the soluble lithium, magnesium or calcium salt of a sulfonated polystyrene copolymer is added, to provide improved lighfastness and ozone resistance over conventional cationic dyeable nylon.
Abstract: This is an improved apparatus for stretching a tow of filaments by the tension caused by driven rolls dragging the tow across drag rolls. The improvement comprises continuously controlling at least one undriven or drag roll proportional to the sensed variation in a ratio of speed between at least one driven roll and at least one drag roll.

Abstract: This high speed yarn take-up system consists of a pneumatic injector nozzle rotatably mounted off-center of a single flighted rotating screw. Yarn is injected into the area exposed at the trailing edge of the screw and compressed and moved forward in a compression chamber by the feeding of the screw. A plastic tube is continuously formed around the compression chamber to receive the yarn mass as it discharges, thus forming a tube of indefinite unlimited length and from 1/4 to 4 inches or larger in diameter. The tube may contain a single end or multiple ends of yarn. The yarn can be removed from the tube at high speeds by simply slitting the plastic as the yarn is pulled from the package.

Abstract: An improved pellet sampler and method of sampling pellets is disclosed. The apparatus is an opening in a conduit, such as the open end of a pipe, exposed to flowing pellets and communicating with an auger which revolves to remove a small portion of the flowing pellets as a sample. The improvement is the fixed opening having a plane at an angle between parallel and normal, preferably 45.degree., to the flow of pellets coinciding with the auger feed end and normal to the auger axis. The method is to revolve the auger at a measured rate to collect a uniform sample.

Abstract: This invention relates to an improved transfer line exchanger inlet cone for connecting the process gas outlet of a hydrocarbon cracking heater with the inlet of a transfer line heat exchanger, and to methods of making the same. Stress cracking and high temperature failures of the inlet cone are eliminated without affecting the flow pattern of the process gas.
Abstract: A spin pot, for the extrusion of one or more ends of multifilament, synthetic fibers, which essentially eliminates all stagnant zones caused by nonuniform flow patterns while yielding yarns of high quality at high extrusion rates for an extended period between spin pot changes. "Plug flow" is achieved throughout the passage of polymer through the spin pot by the design of the internal parts wherein: the optimum number and location of polymer delivery channels in the top cap are defined, polymer flow throughout the spin pot is streamlined, and improved sealing characteristics are provided by the design of the top cap and the breaker plate.
Abstract: This invention is a method to remove entrained mist from vapor comprising passing the vapor through a U-shaped conduit, having downward facing slots, then through a liquid to remove the mist and taking the vapor overhead from the liquid and drawing off the excess liquid containing the removed mist.
Abstract: This invention is an apparatus for diffusing quench air at the exhaust of the air from a quench stack for cooling synthetic melt-spun fibers, comprising a series of slats arranged peripherally around the fibers in the quench stack.

Abstract: A noise reduction system is disclosed for use with a draw point localizing jet which has yarn passages, a string-up slot, and conduits for admitting treating fluid thereinto. The system comprises an exhaust muffler and access slot silencing means. The exhaust muffler comprises a housing lined with removable inserts of heat resistant, metallic sound absorbing material. The exhaust muffler has a hinged door operating in conjunction with the access slot silencing means. The muffler and access slot silencing means open and close for string-up and operation. The system lowers the overall noise level of the jet by muffling the noise sources during operation.

Abstract: A polyester sheet containing an antiblock agent is produced by uniformly blending a small amount of a degraded polycarbonate containing the antiblock agent. The antiblock agent must have an inherent or adjusted pH of less than six to degrade the polycarbonate to lower its molecular weight upon extrusion compounding. This in turn makes a uniform blend and resulting clear sheet with antiblocking properties. In another embodiment, larger amounts of polycarbonate containing the antiblock agent are used.

Abstract: A fail-safe interlock system is disclosed for use in conjunction with a truck which has a filler valve for the loading of product, and which eliminates the safety hazard of driving the truck away from a loading facility while a loading hose is still connected to the vehicle's filler valve. Movement of a shield in a direction which permits clear access to the end of the filler valve causes the vehicle's ignition circuit to be broken, thereby preventing driving of the truck while the loading hose is connected to the end of the filler valve; and correspondingly, movement of the shield in the opposite direction to where it at least partially covers the end of the filler valve causes the restoration of the ignition circuit, thereby permitting driving of the vehicle after the loading hose has been safely disconnected.
