Abstract: An improved tool for making dubbed bodies used in fly tying. This tool includes a thread twisting means releasably mounted on a base which means is used for twisting a loop of thread having dubbing material sandwiched in the loop. The thread twisting means can be released from the base and used as a tool for wrapping the dubbed thread on the body of the fly being tied. Further the gripping devices which hold the thread during the twisting process have multiple devices for holding the thread, the devices located one above the other. By selecting one of the devices the distance of the thread loop above the top surface of the base can be selected so that the taper of the dubbed thread can be selected easily.
Abstract: A method for controlling, preventing, or removing fouling deposits comprising microencapsulating fouling control chemicals in a slow release capsule. The microcapsules are applied to the substrate to be treated, where they stick to the substrate and slowly release the active treating agents.
Abstract: A spray pattern analyzer for use in analyzing spray patterns formed by spray nozzles which are attached to an agricultural spray applicator boom. This analyzer includes a corrugated collector tray mounted on a cart. The cart has wheels for moving the collector tray through the spray pattern. The collector tray is designed so as to receive collector test tubes each being longitudinally aligned with the troughs of the collector tray. When the troughs are partially filled with spray, the collector tray is tilted so that the spray will flow into the test tubes to provide a visual indication of the pattern. The collector tray is constructed in segments to allow the collector tray to be collapsed. Further, the cart is constructed to permit an adjustment of the height of the collector tray from the surface upon which the cart rests.
Abstract: An electric power generator used a piezoelectric transducer mounted on a resilient blade which in turn is mounted on an independently flexible support member. Fluid flow against the blade causes bending stresses in the piezoelectric polymer which produces electric power.
Abstract: A leader dispenser having a housing for holding multiple leader spools. A coil spring is used to resiliently bias the spool into frictional engagement with an element for braking rotational movement of the spool thereby preventing free wheeling of the spool when leader is drawn from the spool. This spring also acts to resiliently force two washer-like elements together. The leader is directed between these two washer-like elements whereby the washers grip the leader between them preventing the leader from being drawn back into the housing after a length of leader is cut from the leader on the spool.
Abstract: An improved apparatus and method for analyzing the chemical and structural composition of a specimen including whole-body specimens which may include, for example, living mammals, utilizing nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques. A magnetic field space necessary to obtain an NMR signal characteristic of the chemical structure of the specimen is focused to provide a resonance domain of selectable size, which may then be moved in a pattern with respect to the specimen to scan the specimen.
Abstract: An electronic system and method including a user programmable thermostat for measuring temperature at the situs of the measurement unit and for signaling and controlling a remotely located energy controller which is connected to the programmable thermostat. By utilizing a multiplexed signal communication channel between the programmable thermostat and the energy controller, the energy controller activates preselected energy using units which may, for example, include a furnace and air conditioning units for controlling the temperature at the measurement unit situs and a power shedder unit for shedding energy usage to conserve energy all in accordance with a user provided program.
Abstract: A dual wall concrete smokestack having a freestanding flue liner in each flue. The smokestack being constructed of preassembled and precast concrete sections axially stacked one upon the other. The preassembled sections have a precast concrete body having a flue aperture. An inner flue liner is carried within the flue aperture spaced inwardly and concentrically from the wall of the flue aperture. The wall of the flue aperture further having a flue liner stop means. The inner flue liner having a bracket for engaging the flue liner stop means to prevent the flue liner from dropping downwardly and out of the concrete body when being transported to the site of construction. The concrete body further having another aperture to be aligned with a corresponding aperture of an adjacent section for receiving reinforcing rods extending from the bottom of the smokestack to the top of the smokestack and for receiving poured concrete as the smokestack is being erected to tie the sections together.

Abstract: An improved apparatus for pouring molten metal into a mold or other cavity. The apparatus includes a tiltable pouring ladle having a pouring spout disposed coaxially with the axis of rotation or tilt of the ladle to permit pouring of metal in a direction coincident with such axis of rotation. The apparatus is further provided with a positionable pouring trough for directing molten metal from the pouring spout to a pouring cup located at any position on the mold surface. With this apparatus, a fixed relationship between the pouring spout, the pouring trough, and the mold surface at any phase of the pouring process may be maintained such that the trajectory of molten metal being poured through air is minimized. The ladle is shaped such that molten metal may be poured at a rate proportional to the tilting rate of the ladle. The ladle also includes apparatus for preventing impurities such as slag or dross inclusions introduced into the ladle with the molten metal from being poured into the casting.

Abstract: An improved inflatable cushion lift assembly for use in a bathtub by a person taking a bath. The lift assembly is positioned on the floor of a bathtub and is connected to the bathtub faucet to inflate the cushion. The cushion may be deflated while a person is sitting thereon to lower a person to the floor of the tub. Furthermore, the cushion may be inflated while the person is sitting on the cushion on the floor of the tub to raise the user upwardly to allow the user to exit the tub easily. The present improvement inhibits undesired movement of the cushion while being used by utilizing a rigid bottom panel and/or rigid top panel. Furthermore, the interior of the cushion may be provided with baffles or the like for dampening water oscillations within the cushion. The cushion, for reasons of stability, may also be tiered or formed in layers such that the cushion inflates or deflates in stages.
