  • Patent number: 4749108
Abstract: A flexible storage and dispensing package for fluid material. The package has a first mode of operation capable of storing the fluid material without leakage when the package is subjected to unintentional external forces and a second mode of operation capable of dispensing the fluid material when the package is subjected to external forces intentionally applied by the user. The second mode of operation is capable of dispensing the fluid material through a discharge orifice in response to manually applied forces and of automatically ceasing the dispensing operation when the manually applied forces are removed. The package is also resistant to leakage in the second mode of operation when stored with its discharge orifice downwardly oriented intermediate dispensing cycles.

  • Patent number: 4748033
Abstract: A tea concentrate which is stable against flake formation during cyclic freezing and thawing and which has enhanced solubility in cold water is disclosed. The tea concentrate comprises from about 0.4 to about 8% by weight tea solids, an edible gum selected from xanthan gum, cellulose gums, locust bean gum, guar gum and mixtures thereof in specified amounts, and optionally a solubilizer selected from the sugars, the polyols and mixtures thereof in specified amounts. The tea concentrate has a pH of about 4.6 or less at 20.degree. C. and is therefore stable against the growth of most microbial pathogens without the use of preservatives. Tea beverages prepared from this tea concentrate also have low astringency, fresh brewed tea flavor, and an enhanced mouthfeel.

  • Patent number: 4747977
Abstract: This invention relates to homogeneous liquid laundry detergent compositions containing a mixture of anionic and nonionic synthetic detergents, fatty acid soap, polycarboxylate builder, solvent, and water. Improved odor and safety are obtained by omitting C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 monohydric alcohols which have been used in prior art compositions of this type, and using polyols exclusively for the solvent.

  • Patent number: 4743246
Abstract: An integral disposable absorbent article such as a diaper having a liquid pervious topsheet, a liquid impervious backsheet, an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet, at least one elastically contractible gasketing cuff, and at least one barrier cuff. The barrier cuff has a proximal edge and a distal edge. The absorbent article is additionally provided with spacing means for spacing the distal edge away from the top surface of the topsheet. In addition, adhesive means secure the end portions of the barrier cuff closed. A channel is formed between the proximal and distal edges in at least the crotch region because the distal edge is spaced away from the topsheet top surface. When the diaper embodiment of the present invention is applied to a wearer, the barrier cuff rides up along the inner thighs and the perineum of the wearer in the crotch region and along the buttocks in the back waist region.

  • Patent number: 4741877
Abstract: Method and apparatus for uniformly macroscopically expanding and, if desired, aperturing a plastic web. This is preferably accomplished by supporting the plastic web on a moving three-dimensional forming structure which is supported in a fluid pressure differential zone by a stationary support member. By providing a relationship between the size and pattern of the apertures in the stationary support member and the size and pattern of the apertures in the three-dimensional forming structure, substantially all of the apertures present in the forming structure are unobstructed by the stationary support member at some point during the forming structure's traverse of the fluid pressure differential zone. Thus the resultant plastic web is uniformly debossed and, if desired, apertured in the pattern of the three-dimensional forming structure.

  • Patent number: RE32649
Abstract: The present invention relates to improved hydrogel-forming polymer compositions which can be used as absorbents in absorbent structures and absorbent articles such as diapers, sanitary napkins and the like. Such hydrogel-forming polymer compositions are substantially water-insoluble, slightly cross-linked, partially neutralized polymers which are prepared from unsaturated polymerizable, acid group-containing monomers and cross-linking agents. These hydrogel-forming polymer materials, upon imbibing fluids, form hydrogels. Such polymer materials have relatively high gel volume and relatively high gel strength as measured by shear modulus of the hydrogen which forms therefrom. Such polymer materials also contain relatively low levels of extractable polymer material which can be extracted therefrom by contact with synthetic urine.
