    Abstract: A static switching apparatus for a track vehicle includes a main line track and a switch track which at a switching junction both include a conventional track rail and a specially constructed rail. A switching cam including cam faces is positioned at the junction and includes straight and curved cam surfaces which are selectively engaged by cam followers supported on the vehicle to provide for steering of the vehicle. The cam followers are lowered and raised vertically by fluid extensible devices which also move them in an orbital path into cam surface engagement.

Gate members arranged in pairs swing in opposite directions transversely of the car. Each gate member is pivotally hung and attached to an operating mechanism that includes a transversely extending shaft having two oppositely threaded portions. The operating mechanism includes split nuts located on the threaded shaft portions with attached links connected to the gate members in order that rotation of the shaft in one direction moves the split nuts in opposite directions and causes the cooperating gates to open and close simultaneously.

    Abstract: An operating rod assembly for use with a sliding plug door of a railway freight car. The operating rod extends vertically and it is connected with a manually actuated mechanism. Both the upper and lower ends of the operating rod are connected with adapter rods of each door crank member which move the plug door into and from the door opening. At both the upper and lower ends of the operating rod there is a telescoping connection between the operating rod and the associated crank. The telescoping connection is secured by a fastener which interconnects the operating rod to each crank attached adapter rod. When the door is in the locked position the fastener is in a captured position adjacent the door to prevent disassembly or accidental separation of the rod members during transit.

Locking for each of the doors is provided by means of a locking pawl engaging stops provided on door brackets which preclude opening of the doors during transport. Opening actuation of the arm and linkage arrangement provides for initial displacement of the locking pawls thereby permitting the doors to continue to their open position.

The center plate has longitudinally extending attached skirts, and bevels are provided which allow the car to rock at the bevel lines. Forces transmitted through the center plate at the bevels are absorbed and distributed by the associated longitudinal plates and other bolster and center filler structural elements.
