Abstract: A valve assembly is provided which is in two units, each of which assumes a normally closed position when the units are separated and is opened when the units are mated. One unit includes a valve body with a transverse wall having an opening therethrough which is normally closed by a diaphragm which is provided with openings through it outside of the location where it engages the wall. The other valve unit includes a valve body having a spring-biased plunger which at its end has an integral pin engageable with the diaphragm when the units are advanced toward each other for deflecting the diaphragm away from the opening in the transverse wall, and an additional projecting portion for engaging the transverse wall to cause the plunger to be deflected away from the valve seat, thereby to open up communication through both valves.
Abstract: The box construction includes superimposed layers or flaps each of which has a cut partially through it from the surface adjacent the other, the cuts being aligned. Glue within the cuts holds these box portions together, allowing them to be separated by tearing out only the part within one of the cuts, resulting in a neat appearance without loose shreds. Alternatively, the inner layer may be cut all the way through around an enclosed periphery, held to the remainder of the layer by at least one uncut segment interrupting the cut. Glue within the periphery secures the inner layer to the outer. When the layers are separated, the center within the periphery of the cut is torn out, adhering to the outer layer. The layers may be returned to their original positions where the center enters the cut and holds the layers together by friction. Box closures and spouts are included.
Abstract: A strip of pressure sensitive tape is laid out along top and bottom plates or top and bottom tracks of a wall that is to be constructed with studs at a fixed spacing. The tape bears stud location marks at preselected intervals for ease in locating the studs for connection to the top and bottom plates and top and bottom tracks. The tape is provided in a supply roll that is rotatably mounted in an applicator tool having a handle and a pressure roller that enable the tape to be pressed against the plate or track and withdrawn from the roll as the tool and tape are moved along. To facilitate locating and positioning of the end of the tape, and therefore of the first stud location mark of the tape, the tool is provided with a pressure foot extending from the pressure roller and has an edge which may easily be positioned at the desired starting point of the tape, as, for example, against an existing wall.
Abstract: A padded body, that is adapted to be used as a ground pad and as padded tent bottom is folded over a surfboard and secured in closed position. The surfboard is thus effectively protected while being shipped and stored. A tent is adapted to be connected to the tent bottom at the beach, so as to provide a comfortable padded-floor tent for use during the day or night. During shipment of the apparatus, the tent is secured adjacent the skegs of the surfboard.
Abstract: A floor safe has wings mounted on it in a high strength manner. The wings are adapted to be bent outwardly by bolts disposed in the valuables chamber of a safe, the bolts being operable when the safe door is not present. When the bolts are threaded outwardly so as to spread the wings, the safe may not be removed from the floor without physically destroying a substantial portion of the floor in the vicinity of the safe.
Abstract: A spigot for association with a spout connected to a container, the spigot including a cylindrical portion to fit over the end of the spout, a diaphragm for engaging the end of the spout to prevent flow of liquid, a toggle member for deflecting the diaphragm and an opening through the cylindrical portion for dispensing liquid upon the deflection of the diaphragm. The spigot includes a downspout extending from the opening and having a sealed outer end which is of a relatively thin-walled construction, the downspout having a thicker wall inwardly of the outer end to prevent collapse of the downspout during deflection of the diaphragm. The spigot member includes a relatively thin-walled portion inwardly of the thickened part of the downspout for facilitating deflection of the diaphragm. The spigot may be sealed by heat sealing together opposed wall portions of the downspout or by a tab heat sealed over the end of the downspout.

Abstract: A captive screw is provided which has a head and a threaded shank with grooves extending inwardly from the outer end of the shank, with a washer extending around the shank and provided with tabs extending into the grooves. A bore is provided in the outer end of the shank and formed with an undercut portion of enlarged diameter. A plug having a straight knurl on a shank is pressed into the bore to retain the plug to the shank, becoming embedded in the shank at either end of the enlarged portion. A head on the plug engages the outer end of the shank and interferes with the tab to hold the washer to the shank. The plug may have an annular groove for engagement by a removal tool.
Abstract: A single-handle faucet for mixing liquid and water and controlling the flow rate therethrough. A valve element having a generally cylindrical shut-off seal and a generally cylindrical ported seal mounted axially adjacent each other on a stem portion of the valve element. A single handle is provided to shift the valve element axially of the bore to control flow volume and to effect shut-off, or rotationally to control water temperature. The relationships are such that both peripheral squeeze and water-pressure forces are employed to provide sealing actions at the shut-off seal and ported seal. The actuating means is a handle that extends through a slot in the valve body, and indicators are provided adjacent the handle to indicate temperature range.
Abstract: A wireway is provided from a unitary member, shaped as a channel, with a slotted central web for supporting cables or the like. One of the side flanges of the channel has an extension with a doubled over portion used as the attachment to a downcomer. Flanges at the opposite edges of the doubled over portion receive the downcomer. When attached to the open side of a downcomer channel, a spacer block extends between the downcomer and the doubled over portion.

Abstract: Panels of the type used in an office panel system are provided with longitudinal grooves at the ends thereof, the grooves receiving a tube in such relationship that the tube can seat snugly in both grooves, and that the tube can rotate about its longitudinal axis. Complementary teardrop-shaped openings are provided at spaced points along the tube, each such opening having its axis in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the tube. Such openings cooperate with chamfered undercut screw heads to draw the panels together and align the panels with each other in response to rotation of the tube through one-quarter turn. A crank is provided at the lower end of the tube, to rotate the tube through one-quarter turn and simultaneously conceal the crank. An alignment pin cooperates with the tube slot to hold the tube at a predetermined elevation that greatly facilitates initiation of the entrance of the screw heads into the teardrop-shaped openings.
Abstract: A box is provided having opposite end panels, one of which is defined by two layers, one inside the other, the outer layer including a closure flap and cutout beneath it, the inner layer including an inner closure flap, the upper portion of which is attached to the outer closure flap and which is bendable transversely beneath the attachment to the outer closure flap, the outer closure flap having a bottom edge retaining the bottom edge of said inner closure flap. A third layer inwardly of the second layer has an opening covered by the closure flaps. In one embodiment, a fourth layer, also with an opening, is provided.
Abstract: The angles of the walls of vias being ablated by excimer lasers are controlled by interposing refractive elements between the masks and the workpieces, and rotating the refractive elements about axes parallel to the optical axis. In one embodiment, the refractive element has parallel faces, and is inclined. In another embodiment, the faces of the refractive element are at a small angle to each other.
Abstract: A vehicle brake light and display system employs a display screen having an array of light emitting diodes arranged to transmit a selected pattern or message in red light. A fixed or programmable memory has sets of data stored therein that can be selectively extracted to energize certain of the light emitting elements and display a single line of a selected message. Upon actuation of the brake of the vehicle in which the display screen is mounted, display of the message is disabled, and all of the light emitting elements are energized to provide a solid display of red over the entire screen. As a further safety feature, the display is maintained in a disable condition until initial application of the brake, and thereafter subsequent applications of the brake will cause display of the brake light over the entire display panel.
Abstract: A garden tool having a cultivating blade portion and a cultivating tine portion provided at the end of a relatively long handle. The blade portion is generally U-shaped and is substantially equal in width to the tine portion. The blade portion is articulated relative to the tine portion.
