Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed, particularly, though by no means exclusively, useful in touch—screen computer CRT display systems and the like, and more generally in other force and/or torque measurement systems, as in weighing and the like, in which (1) lineal and/or rotational acceleration of the system is sensed in response to inertial interference effects such as tilt or movement that introduce errors into the force and/or torque measurements, and/or (2) inertial error correction from the force data itself is obtained, such as derivative order corrections; and such data is used to correct the force and/or torque measurements. A novel calibration technique for deriving appropriately descriptive coefficients to the particular system for the correcting data, is also disclosed.

Abstract: A novel networking architecture and technique for transmitting both cells and packets or frames across a common switch fabric, effected, at least in part, by utilizing a common set of algorithms for the forwarding engine (the ingress side) and a common set of algorithms for the QoS management (the egress part) that are provided for each I/O module to process packet/cell information without impacting the correct operation of ATM switching and without transforming packets into cells for transfer across the switch fabric.

Abstract: The motorless rotary toothbrush is made of an elongated grip (10) which bears at one end a freely rotating disk (12) on an axis substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis (16) of the distal end of the grip. The disk (12) bears the bristles (20) of the brush. The bristles (20) are implanted symmetrically vis-à-vis the rotary axis (14) of the disk (12). The stem of each bristle of at least one outer ring (18) of the disk (12) forms a certain angle (a) with the radial plane going through the stem of the bristle (20).

Abstract: A technique for encoding (and decoding) escape and other characters in data packets at high rates of speed in HDLC and similar data processing through the use of groups of FIFO data streams parallely fed to and from a multilane highway matrix of input data and escape character switched busses and at relatively low clocking speeds, while running multiple byte streams at a time.
Abstract: A novel method of producing an improved thin hydrogen-selective palladium-alloy membrane, through solid-solid interdiffusion of thin films or layers of palladium and a palladium-enhancing metal, such as copper, subjected in the presence of a reducing agent, such as hydrogen, to an elevated temperature below the melting point of both metals, for a sufficient time to effect substantially complete interdiffusion of the metals.

Abstract: A quasi-kinematic coupling for mating components (mechanical parts, surfaces, assemblies and the like) employing mating sets of surface of revolution, (conical) grooves and cooperative surface of revolution (spherical/conical) protrusions for establishing six lines (not just prior points) of contact at the kinematic interfaces, and with elastic compliance therebetween and preferably with relief features to define the effective orientation as a clamping force seats the protrusions in the grooves and seals the component mating surfaces into contact.
Abstract: A multiple-plastic stream co-extruder, as for injection-molding cavities, in which the extruder is internally provided therewithin and therealong with a restrictor or throttle pin, rod or element that forces combined plastic material streams, formed with an interior core stream encased in outer and inner stream layers, into corresponding concentric annular flow stream layers that are ultimately split transversely in opposite directions into a cavity gated to the extruder, and with the core stream at a region of zero gradient in the transverse flow velocity profile within the extruder and cavity.
Abstract: This invention relates to polymer blends and the process for preparing naturally compatibilized polyolefin blends using a “one-pot” polymerization of a single monomer, whereby two homopolymers having different structures are produced as well as a third block copolymer having alternating sequences of the two structural segments of the two homopolymers. The formation of the block copolymer is established by solvent extraction and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. The catalyst compositions enabling the direct synthesis of naturally compatibilized polymer blend is prepared by combining four components. The first two components are organometallic complexes of Group IVB or VIIIB elements. The third component is a cocatalyst which irreversibly reacts with at least one ligand on the transition metal complexes. The fourth component is a hydrocarbyl or oxyhydrocarbyl compound of Group IIIA metals, which functions as a cross-over agent.
