Abstract: An apparatus for the gravitational separation of a hydrocarbon fluid comprised primarily of crude oil, water and varying amounts of gas. A separating tank is provided into which a stream of the hydrocarbon fluid is introduced, and from which tank, discrete flows of crude oil, water and gas respectively are removed. The tank includes a transversely positioned perforated spreader plate which forms a multiplicity of upwardly flowing streams of the normally lighter crude oil. To assure minimization of turbulence in the upwardly flowing streams, which would deter a complete separation of the fluids, incoming oil/water mixture is introduced to the lower side of the separator plate through a multi-outlet manifold. The manifold includes discharge risers which function to spread the incoming water and oil across the entire lower surface of the spreader plate thereby minimizing the degree of turbulence beneath the plate which might occur.

Abstract: In a reactor tube for conducting a stream of gas through a bed comprised of particulated solid treating material, which is held within the tube. A retainer is removably positioned in the tube to secure the bed in place without obstructing the gas flow. The retainer includes a head which functions as a gas pervious barrier, yet precludes removal or carrying away of the particulated solid material. A tensioned loop at the retainer end includes a pair of oppositely positioned arms to engage the conductor inner wall. The arms are depressible to increase internal tension on the loop thereby allowing the retainer to be inserted into a tube end and held by friction.
Abstract: An additive composition prepared by the steps comprising:(A) reacting a styrene-ethylene butylene-styrene block copolymer, having a styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene molecular weight ratios, respectively, of 1:6:1 to 1:3:1 characterized in that unsaturation in the styrene blocks is equal to or greater than 50 percent and the ethylene butylene block is hydrogenated leaving no more than 10 percent unsaturation, with at least one olefinic carboxylic acid acylating agent to form one or more acylating reaction intermediates characterized by having a carboxylic acid acylating function within their structure, and(B) reacting said reaction intermediate in (A) with an amino-aromatic polyamine compound and a lubricating oil composition containing same are provided.

Abstract: A dual frequency microwave water cut monitor includes a microwave source which provides microwave energies at two different frequencies to a circulator which in turn provides the microwave energies to an antenna. The antenna provides the microwave energies to a petroleum stream and also receives reflected microwave energy back from the stream. The reflected microwave energy is provided by the antenna to the circulator which in turn provides the reflected microwave energies as test microwave energies. A detector assembly connected to the circulator detects the intensities of the test microwave energies and provides a corresponding intensity signal. Indicator apparatus connected to the circulator to the microwave source and to the detector assembly provides an indication of the water cut of the petroleum stream in accordance with the intensity signal and the phase difference between one of the source provided microwave energies and its corresponding test microwave energy.
