Abstract: Apparatus useful in electronics for the tape recording of a video signal, which is a baseband signal of a prescribed bandwidth extending up to a prescribed maximum frequency, processes the video signal to generate a folded-spectrum video signal. The video signal is digitized and supplied to a digital band-splitting filter with a cross-over frequency at one-half said prescribed maximum frequency, for separating the digitized video signal into samples of a lower-frequency-band component and into samples of a higher-frequency-band component. A balanced modulator is connected for modulating a folding carrier wave of the prescribed maximum frequency, which modulation is done in accordance with the higher-frequency-band component to generate a balanced modulation signal; and the balanced modulation signal is linearly combined with the lower-frequency-band component to generate the folded-spectrum video signal.

Abstract: Television images to be digitally recorded are divided into blocks and the discrete cosine transform DCT of each block is taken. The DC coefficient of each DCT block is scalar-quantized, and its AC coefficients are classified-vector-quantized (CVQ). The square of the value that part or all the AC coefficients among horizontal AC coefficients including a first AC coefficient and vertical AC coefficients including a second AC coefficient, according to the zigzag scanning sequence of DCT block, are subtracted from a representative value of a preset reference class. Using a multilevel compression method, lowest level codes are vector-partitioned by P-units at equal intervals with respect to each classified DCT block, and code books of representative vectors corresponding to the partitioned vectors are provided.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for sensing state of a waste toner box of a system during an electrophotographic developing process. The apparatus and method sense whether or not a waste toner receptacle has been installed prior to initiation of the development process and whether the receptacle is full of waste toner. The receptacle has a semi-transparent body for storing a waste toner removed from a cleaning blade, a photosensor for generating a signal representing whether the waste toner stored in the waste toner receptacle has substantial filled the receptacle as well as whether the waste toner receptacle has been installed.
Abstract: A power-saving printing method that wakes up an image-forming device prior to a print operation in order to reduce an extended print time resulting from a warm-up period of the device. One embodiment of the method includes the steps of: establishing a power-saving mode when the image-forming device has not received a print code for a predetermined period of time, determining whether a wake-up control code is included in a received print code, performing a wake-up operation and establishing a print ready state when the warm-up control code is included, and performing an operation corresponding to the received print code after the wake-up operation is performed when the wake-up control code is not included.
Abstract: A method for receiving and processing a RF paging signal in a POCSAG code format in a paging receiver having a battery saver function. A paging receiver detects a preamble code, a word synchronization code and subsequent address code of each batch of a received RF paging signal. If an error occurs in the word synchronization code of a next batch, instead of searching for a word synchronization code of the next batch as is disclosed in a conventional paging receiver, a BCH decoding algorithm is used to decode subsequent address code words of the next batch. Thus, if a non-error code word is detected in the code words, the word synchronization code in which an error occurs previously is recognized as the normal word synchronization code and subsequent address code word is searched for. Consequently, even if the word synchronization code in a next batch is missing, at the normal batch construction, the missing word synchronization code can be compensated by the subsequent address code word.
Abstract: A circuit for recording and reproducing a TBC reference signal for use in video recording/reproducing systems includes a circuit for adding to a video signal to be recorded a TBC reference signal in which the TBC reference signal has a period adaptively varying corresponding to a synchronizing variation of the video signal; and a circuit for extracting and reproducing a TBC reference signal from a video signal read-out from the recording medium in order to correct time-base errors in the video signal. The circuit corrects time-base errors of the video signal according to a TBC reference signal reproduced along with the video signal from the recording medium during reproduction.

Abstract: A data communication method between a master system and multiple slave systems using a serial input/output interface. The master system connects a communication path to a corresponding slave system, and transmits a message and simultaneously receives a message from the slave system during an assigned communication time. When the transmission of the message ends, the master system transmits a final message and when a final acknowledgement message is received, performs a service for the next slave system. Meanwhile, the slave system receives a message transmitted by the connection of the communication path and simultaneously transmits a message to the master system. Further, when a final message is received, the slave system transmits a final acknowledgement message to the master system. Thus, the effective communication between point-to-multipoint can be achieved.

Abstract: Televisions (TV) and video tape recorders (VTR) carry out the tuning operation by using a microcomputer. The microcomputer converts the modes in sequence of conventional air mode, cable TV Standard mode, cable TV Harmonic Relate Carrier mode, and multibroadcasting mode according to the inputted signal from a key matrix to control both the conventional and multibroadcasting modes which have the different channel frequencies from each other. Thus, independent systems or additional programs for multimode systems are not necessary.
