    Abstract: A method for inhibiting corrosion of a metal surface is disclosed. The method comprises contacting said metal surface with a corrosion inhibitor of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of aliphatic radicals containing from about 6 to about 22 carbon atoms, R.sub.1 --C.sub.m H.sub.2m -- wherein R.sub.1 is alkoxy containing from 6 to 22 carbon atoms and m is an integer of from 2 to 6, and ##STR2## wherein R.sub.2 is alkyl containing from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, x is an integer of from 1 to 10 and each R.sub.3 is independently hydrogen or methyl; and R' is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, and C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkoxy, at a temperature and for a period of time sufficient to inhibit corrosion of said metal surface.A method for pretreating a metal surface to improve the adhesion of paint thereto is disclosed.

    Abstract: A non-toxic liquid stabilizer comprising, (a) from about 5 to about 35 percent of zinc resinate, (b) from about 5 to about 35 percent of calcium resinate, (c) from about 10 to about 40 percent of non-toxic plasticizer, (d) from about 1 to about 10 percent of a non-toxic antioxidant, and (e) from about 25 to about 75 percent of a non-toxic phosphite, said stabilizer containing from about 0.1 to about 3.5 percent zinc, and from about 0.025 to about 2.28 percent calcium, all weights being based upon the total weight of the stabilizer, is disclosed. Also disclosed is a similar stabilizer which does not contain phosphite and contains from about 25 to about 90 percent of the plasticizer. A method for stabilizing halogenated hydrocarbon resins utilizing the stabilizers of the present invention is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A process for the preparation of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole is disclosed. The process comprises heating a reaction mixture comprising nitrosobenzene, hydrogen sulfide and carbon disulfide in a molar ratio of about 1:1.5 to 4:1 to 3, respectively, to a temperature from about 200 to about 300.degree. C., for a time sufficient to convert at least a portion of the reactants into 2-mercaptobenzothiazole. In an alternative process, there is first reacted nitrosobenzene with hydrogen sulfide in a molar ratio of about 1:1.5 to 4, at a temperature from about 20 to about 100.degree. C. for a period of time sufficient to substantially reduce the nitrosobenzene, and subsequently reacting the resulting product mixture with from about 1 to about 3 mole equivalents of carbon disulfide per mole of originally charged nitrosobenzene, at a temperature from about 200.degree. C. to about 300.degree. C.

    Abstract: A concentrated antistatic composition adapted for incorporation into various polymers such as olefins is prepared by admixing a liquid ethoxylated amine antistatic agent, such as an N,N-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl)alkenyl or mixed alkenyl and alkyl (C.sub.6 -C.sub.18) amine, with various polymers such as, for example, polypropylene, heating to form a homogeneous liquid and rapidly cooling the mixture to form a solid antistatic agent. A normally liquid antistatic agent can thus be simply and readily blended into a polymer such as polyethylene as a dry, solid product to impart antistatic properties to the blended resin.
