    Abstract: This invention relates to a process for preparing isocyanates from formamides wherein a formamide corresponding to the formula R--NHCHO).sub.n, where R is an organic group and n is 1 or 2, is oxidized with an oxygen containing gas at a temperature in the range of 300.degree. C. to 600.degree. C. in the presence of a catalytic amount of copper and/or one or more metals of the Groups IB and VIII of the 5th and 6th period of the Periodic System of Elements to yield the corresponding isocyanate R (NCO).sub.n where R and n have the same meaning as above, and the resultant gaseous isocyanate containing reaction mixture is subjected to a separation process to separate the product isocyanate from water of reaction.

Also disclosed are fuel oil compositions containing said ether diamine and salts thereof, and a method for inhibiting corrosion utilizing said ether diamine salts.

    Abstract: A cooling agent mixture useful in low-temperature freezing processes is disclosed. The mixture comprises, based upon the total weight of the mixture, from about 15 to about 35% ethylene glycol monoacetate and ethylene glycol diacetate, the ratio of the monoacetate to the diacetate being from about 1:9 to about 9:1; and from about 35 to about 65% glycol monomethyl ether. The mixture may also comprise from about 0 to about 18% monovalent, short-chained alcohol, or mixture thereof, from about 0 to about 3% of a corrosion inhibitor, and from about 0 to about 40% water. The compositions have outstanding cooling characteristics and possess viscosities acceptable for use in typical cooling installations.

    Abstract: A process for the preparation of agglomerates of aluminium oxide is disclosed. The process comprises contacting a hydrous aluminium oxide gel with an organic liquid which is essentially immiscible with water. The organic liquid is utilized in an amount such that the weight ratio of said liquid to water, as contained in the hydrous gel, lies within Region II of a plot of said ratio versus the pore volume of aluminium oxide obtained after being dried and calcined. Subsequent to the gel being contacted with the organic liquid, the gel is subjected to agglomeration conditions. Region II of the referenced plot is a region in which the slope of the curve plotting the ratio of organic liquid to water versus the pore volume, as discussed above, has a value equal to or greater than about 4.0.

    Abstract: A concentrated antistatic composition adapted for incorporation into various polymers such as olefins is prepared by admixing a liquid ethoxylated amine antistatic agent, such as an N,N-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl) alkenyl or mixed alkenyl and alkyl (C.sub.6 -C.sub.18) amine, with various polymers such as, for example, polypropylene, heating to form a homogeneous liquid and rapidly cooling the mixture to form a solid antistatic agent. A normally liquid antistatic agent can thus be simply and readily blended into a polymer such as polyethylene as a dry, solid product to impart antistatic properties to the blended resin.
