  • Patent number: 4482462
Abstract: A device for treating a process fluid contained within a closed chamber with a chemical reactant including a compartment for containing the chemical reactant and a port for allowing flow of the process fluid therethrough. The device is characterized by a recirculation mechanism, such as a piston, for alternately drawing a portion of the process fluid into the compartment through the port to bring the portion of the process fluid into direct contact with the chemical reactant and dissolve and/or react a portion of the chemical reactant into the portion of the process fluid and then forcing the portion of the process fluid out of the compartment through the port to circulate the dissolved chemical reactant throughout the remaining process fluid within the closed chamber.A method of treating the process fluid is also disclosed and includes the steps of disposing a portion of the device below the surface of the process fluid so that the port of the device is within the process fluid.

  • Patent number: 4482041
Abstract: A clutch release bearing assembly is described in which a lubrication reservoir is provided between the bearing and the bearing carrier. The lubricant in this reservoir is communicable through a plurality of passageways in the bearing carrier to lubricate the reciprocable movement of the bearing carrier with respect to a guide member connected with the transmission. The bearing assembly is formed to provide a predetermined radial clearance between the bearing and bearing carrier which permits the bearing to shift radially with respect to the bearing carrier, so that the bearing may coaxially align itself with a clutch input shaft axis, said shifting being operative to transfer lubricant from the reservoir to the area between the bearing carrier and guide member.

  • Patent number: 4383719
Abstract: A journaled bearing assembly including a pair of semicircular half shells defining a sleeve bearing with an outer surface and an inner bearing surface with the surfaces extending axially between laterally spaced opposite ends and circumferentially between oppositely disposed parting faces with the bearing surface being concave and the outer surface being convex axially between the ends while in the free state and held at gage diameter. In the free state the terminal portions adjacent the parting faces are on a longer radius than the radius of the central portion. When held at gage diameter the terminal portions are on a radius equal to the radius of the central portion. The bearing sleeve is disposed in a bearing housing with the bearing surfaces in engagement with a journaled portion of a shaft. The bearing housing includes clamping members in clamping engagement with the outer surfaces of the half shells to apply radical forces to the half shells.

  • Patent number: 4355992
Abstract: A rotatable machine assembly comprising a sprocket with a casing defined by a pair of plates secured together and supported on a hub through a ball bearing assembly. The ball bearings are supported between an outer race member and a raceway in the hub. The plates of the casing surround and are supported by the outer race member so as to define annular axially spaced side walls on each side of the ball bearing assembly. A seal is supported by the hub on each side of the ball bearing with each seal being disposed entirely axially inwardly of the exterior surface of the respective side walls and in sealing engagement with the interior surface of each of the side walls thereby sealing the ball bearing while being protected by the side walls.

  • Patent number: 4241819
Abstract: The pressure plate actuation fingers of a friction clutch are provided with means for noise attenuation by the application of acoustical materials, alteration of the mass of vibrating parts, or surface treatment of slipping parts either individually or collectively to prevent the generation of objectionable noise due to resonance and sympathetic vibrations that are initiated by the stick-slip phenomenon as the non-rotating clutch release bearing contacts the relatively rotating actuation fingers.

  • Patent number: 4165243
Abstract: A powder metallurgical process for producing dense low-alloy ferrous parts having selected carburized surface portions in which a metal powder of the desired composition is briquetted into a shape-retaining preform, the preform is masked, sintered, carburized whereafter the mask is removed and the resultant preform is forged to a desired final shape. The forged part is then quenched immediately following the forge operation for hardness or if desired it can be further heat treated in another manner to obtain other mechanical properties.

  • Patent number: 4145798
Abstract: A novel and improved method of forging preselected recessed surfaces in a member is disclosed which comprises the steps of adding a suitable lubricant material to at least a slave or primary preform member wherein the lubricant material is sufficient to prevent welding between the noted preforms during the forging operation. Moreover, the method envisions the step of joining the slave preform to the primary body preform member, followed by forging the joined together preforms such that the primary preform member is deformed to an extent generally complementary to a portion of the configuration of the slave preform, such that the forged primary preform has formed therein a shaped recess generally complementary to at least a portion of the configuration of the slave preform. It is contemplated that the forged slave and primary preforms are quenched subsequent to forging. Thereafter, the method contemplates removing the quenched slave preform from the primary preform.

  • Patent number: 4077872
Abstract: A quantitative magnetic separator and method for isolating non-magnetic particles from contaminated magnetic powder mixtures to determine the relative purity of magnetic powder. The separation is effected by restraining the powder mixture below a relatively moving magnetic field which agitates the magnetic particles and allows the non-magnetic particles to disengage and free-fall by gravity into a receiver for subsequent measurement of the degree of contamination.
