  • Patent number: 8270520
Abstract: In this application, an algorithm for decoding multiple input-multiple output (MIMO) transmission for communication systems is provided; the algorithm combines sphere decoding (SD) and zero forcing (ZF) techniques to provide near optimal low complexity and high performance constant time modified sphere decoding algorithm; the algorithm was designed especially for large number of transmit antennas, that allows efficient implementation in hardware—this is done by limiting the number of overall SD iterations; moreover, matrices with high condition number are more likely to undergo SD.

  • Patent number: 8215643
Abstract: A delivery unit (40) for automatically delivering a viscous sealant at a predetermined pressure to a stuffing box (70) of a shaft (20) is disclosed. The delivery unit (40), such as a pressure booster incrementally displaceable piston, is controlled to deliver the sealant at a predetermined pressure on demand when the pressure of the sealant within said stuffing box is less than the predetermined delivery pressure being sufficient to promote adhesion of the sealant onto a shaft segment and to thereby prevent or retard the egress of working fluid from a corresponding working chamber (17) of a machine adapte to perform work by the shaft. A system for reducing the pressure of sealant within a stuffing box by use of the delivery unit and of an impeller-based dynamic seal is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8113359
Abstract: A sediment collection device is used on individual beverage containers for fermented beverages such as beer. A three piece arrangement is fit together before installation on the beverage container, and contains a rotating valve arrangement on complementary, funnel-like structures. This arrangement facilitates a moisture-tight connection between the bottle and the collection device. This arrangement ensures that sediment will not re-enter the beverage bottle.

  • Patent number: 8082989
Abstract: A method for improving liquid injection into a rock formation. The method includes the steps of introducing a gas impulse device into a wellbore in the formation and pumping a pressurized liquid into the wellbore. The method also includes firing the gas impulse device periodically so that the device generates impulses of high pressure compressed gas. The gas expands through the pumped pressurized liquid substantially instantaneously increasing the liquid flow rate into the rock formation, and creates rapid cyclical injected liquid surges into the rock formation with liquid oscillation occurring inside the fractures and/or pores of the formation. The method may be used in regular oil production applications, waterflooding of wells that have ceased to be productive, in preventing lost circulation in oil wells, and in injecting hazardous wastes into rock formations.

  • Patent number: 7882895
Abstract: A method for fracturing an oil or gas formation. The method includes introducing a gas impulse device into a wellbore followed by pumping a pressurized liquid into a wellbore at a pressure equal to or lower than the estimated fracture pressure of the formation. Finally, the method includes firing the gas impulse device periodically so that the device releases high pressure compressed gas impulses. The impulses when expanding through the pumped pressurized liquid substantially instantaneously increases the fracturing liquid flow rate into the oil or gas formation. It causes the total pressure to exceed the actual fracturing pressure of the formation thereby initiating or extending fractures in the formation stimulating the flow of the oil or gas therefrom into the wellbore.
